Hello everyone! 🙂
It’s Day 16 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2015.
It’s time to talk about another TV show from my childhood days as a kid. This was a show that had a clever little bear; a cute little dog and a sweet little panda. Did you watch this as a kid?
Yes! It’s Sooty; Sweep and Soo in ‘The Sooty Show’! I loved watching ‘Sooty’ when I was a kid growing up in my primary school days. I remember watching this with Matthew Corbett presenting. I enjoyed watching the old VHS videos as well as watching the TV shows with Sooty back in the 1990s.
This is a puppet show originally created by Harry Corbett and was first shown in the 1950s. My Dad remembered watching ‘The Sooty Show’ when he was a kid. Harry Corbett presented the show before his son Matthew took over in the 70s before Richard Cadell took over in the late 90s.
I loved watching the original ‘Sooty’ shows on VHS when they were shown in the late 80s and early 90s. I soon watched the spin-off series ‘Sooty & Co’ on TV with Matthew Corbett presenting. It was a happy period of my childhood. I also watched ‘Sooty Heights’ with Richard Cadell and Liana Bridges.
It was fun seeing Sooty and his friends in their adventures. Sooty loves using his magic wand and going “Izzy, Wizzy, Let’s Get Busy!” when he does magic tricks. Sweep is my favourite, as I love how cute he is and found him very funny. Sweep does squeak a lot when he talks and tends to be dim.
‘Sooty’ is still being shown today on CITV and is currently presented by Richard Cadell who’s good as Matthew Corbett was back in the day. I sometimes see the latest ‘Sooty’ episodes on TV and have enjoyed them. I’ll always have fond memories of Sooty and enjoying his stories with Sweep and Soo.
Thanks for reading.
Bye for now.
Tim. 🙂
