Day 19 – Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2015

Hello everyone! 🙂

It’s Day 19 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2015’.

This is one of my favourite music composers, and is one of my dad’s favourites too! I love his music and have grown up with it since I was a kid when dad introduced me to his music. Guess who it is?

It’s Glenn Miller! I love his music from ‘Moonlight Serenade’ to ‘In The Mood’ to ‘Chattanaga Choo Choo’. His big band music started from the 1930s and is still being played today by millions around the world that love Glenn Miller’s music. This is music you don’t want to miss as it’s so good.

My Dad introduced me to Glenn Miller’s music when I was still at primary school. I remember being excited and enthralled by Glenn Miller and his music. I did a little presentation of Glenn Miller at school and recorded my own cassette tape with tracks from the movies and LP records that Dad had.

I loved watching the movies that Glenn Miller starred in when I was kid on our family TV which were on VHS. These were two movies made in the 1940s and they were ‘Sun Valley Serenade’ and ‘Orchestra Wives’. ‘Sun Valley Serenade’ is my favourite of the two films, set in a wintry ski resort.

I also loved watching ‘The Glenn Miller Story’ movie that starred James Stewart and June Allyson, made in 1954. My family has this film and the two Glenn Miller feature films on DVD. Recently, I saw ‘The Glenn Miller Story’ at the New Theatre in Cardiff starring Tommy Steele which I enjoyed seeing.

Glenn Miller’s music has cherished the hearts of millions, as well as mine. I enjoy listening to Glenn Miller’s music now and again especially when going on summer holidays with my parents. I’m hoping to do a presentation on Glenn Miller’s music at a music nostalgic society at Newport in April 2016.

Thanks for reading.

Bye for now.

Tim. 🙂
