Convention Report – ‘Worcester Comic Con 2016’

worcester comic con

Hello everyone! 🙂

I’ve come back from attending the ‘Worcester Comic Con’ last weekend on Sunday the 21st of August 2016! I’ve had a great time seeing Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton at the convention, as well as seeing many other stars in ‘Doctor Who’. Here are some of the highlights of the convention for me.

First thing on that Sunday, I had a nice surprise during breakfast whilst staying at the Premier Inn. I saw Sarah Sutton, who plays Nyssa in ‘Doctor Who’. Sarah was also staying at the Premier Inn and having breakfast as well as me. We both said ‘hi’ to each other! Honest! Wasn’t that a coincidence?!

At the convention itself, I saw my favourite TARDIS duo again – Sarah Sutton and Peter Davison, who plays the Fifth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’. This was the third time I saw Peter and Sarah together at a convention. I’ve had the CD covers I wanted signed from them as well as having new photos with the two.

It was great to see Peter again, who’s now grown a beard since the last time I saw him. I had a nice time chatting him during two signing sessions. We chatted about him working with Christopher Blake in both ‘Love for Lydia’ on TV and ‘Doctor Who’ on audio; the new ‘Spare Parts’ vinyl from Big Finish (I also chatted about it to Sarah too), and his hatred of celery! 😀

I saw Sarah three times for signings that day. Sarah sadly had to go to the garage during her lunch-break to sort out a tyre that needed replacing on her car. Thankfully it was sorted out and I was able to see her that afternoon. It was lovely to share some nice exchanges with Sarah during the day.

Sarah keeps Nyssa’s Timeline (the one I gave her recently) in her handbag whenever she goes to conventions. I was like…WOW!!! I’m gobsmacked that Sarah still keeps and uses the Nyssa timeline I made and gave to her. Sarah told me that I’ve ‘saved her life’ with Nyssa’s timeline at conventions!

As well as Peter and Sarah, I saw Chris Barrie again in Worcester. Chris plays Rimmer in ‘Red Dwarf’, but I know him as Mr. Brittas in ‘The Brittas Empire’. He signed the DVD box set of ‘The Brittas Empire’ for the Bradley family and we chatted about some of his favourite episodes from that sitcom series.

I also saw Ian McNeice, who plays Winston Churchill in ‘Doctor Who’. It was the first time I met Ian and I enjoyed chatting to him about his work as Churchill in Big Finish and working with Tom Baker in ‘The Renaissance Man’. He informed me that Tom was in his pyjamas during the making of the first half of the story. 😀

There was also Sarah Louise Madison, who played one of the Weeping Angels in ‘Doctor Who’. Sarah’s a lovely person to chat to at conventions. Thankfully, she didn’t zap me back in time and it turned out that she did Amy and Rory a favour when zapping them back in time in ‘The Angels of Manhattan’. 😀

I also saw Julian Glover (Scaroth in ‘City of Death’ in ‘Doctor Who’) and Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett in ‘Star Wars’ and Hal the Archer in ‘The Time Warrior’ in ‘Doctor Who’). Both chaps signed the DVD covers of ‘City of Death’ and ‘The Time Warrior’ for me. I’m so pleased, as I really like those two ‘Doctor Who’ stories.

I also took some photos of a Dalek and some Cybermen props at the convention on the day. They even had a life-size set of the Cyber Tombs from ‘The Tomb of the Cybermen’ on the day. Honest! I also got surrounded by two Cybermen on that day! Oh no! Na, don’t worry! They were only props!

The ‘Worcester Comic Con’ was a very enjoyable day for me! The highlight of the day for me was seeing Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton at the convention. They are my favourite TARDIS duo in ‘Doctor Who’ and I’m so glad to have seen them both lately. I’m sure both know me so well by now!

I’m now looking forward to seeing both Peter and Sarah at the next convention. I’ll be going to the ‘Stars of Time Film and Comic Con’ at the Tropicana in Weston-super-Mare over the August bank holiday weekend. I hope to post my convention report on that exciting weekend soon. Stay tuned!

By the way, I’ve updated some ‘Doctor Who’ reviews with new signed CD/DVD covers and photos with the stars. They include ‘The Time Warrior’; ‘Cold Fusion’ and ‘Time-Reef’.

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂

    Hi Tim

Wow, sounds like you had a great time at the convention. That’s really good that you saw Sarah Sutton and Peter Davison. Doesn’t Peter Davison look good with a beard? Was it for a role, or did he just want to have a change?

It certainly looks like it was a well-attended convention, with excellent guests. How great to see Chris Barrie, I absolutely loved The Brittas Empire, it was tremendously funny. And his role in Red Dwarf, of course; very funny indeed. I would imagine he would be great fun to talk to.

That’s a funny story Ian MacNeice told you about Tom Baker being in his pyjamas, that’s really funny, but you can just imagine it, can’t you?

Great to see Julian Glover and Jeremy Bulloch, too. Sounds like there were really great guests there.

I really like the photos of the Cybermen, you look like you were very worried about them going to grab you! Glad you got away all right!

I’m very glad you had such a great time, Tim, it sounds like a fantastic convention to have attended.

      Thanks Leigh!

Wow that was a quick response! I didn’t expect you and Simon (Timelord007) to comment on my convention report so quickly! 😀

I’m pleased I impressed you with my photos and my report on the ‘Worcester Comic Con’. I really did have a good time at the event and enjoyed seeing Peter and Sarah again. Sarah was really nice to me, and I’m pleased I saw her for breakfast; three times during the convention and had photos with her.

I didn’t ask Peter about his beard. Perhaps he did grow it to perform in a recent role or something. I’ll see if I can ask him about it and whether he’s done a recent role next time I see him in Weston-super-Mare.

I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Chris Barrie, and I’m pleased I asked him about his favourite episodes from ‘Brittas Empire’. He said his favourites were the one where a girl almost got eaten by a shark in Series 6 and the one where Carole crushed Mr. Brittas’ car in Series 2. I enjoyed sharing with him how much I enjoyed the development of the characters in that series. I’ve not seen ‘Red Dwarf’ yet, although I know that’s what Chris Barrie’s famous for when he goes to conventions.

I’m pleased I amused you with the story of Tom Baker in his pyjamas during recording ‘The Renaissance Man’. That startled me when Ian McNeice told me about it as in the photos of the CD cover, Tom is not in pyjamas. The photos must have been taken around lunchtime. But it was amusing to hear it from Ian as well. I also shared with Ian that I’d been to Blenheim Palace this year where Winston Churchill lived.

I’m pleased I got the DVD covers signed by Julian Glover and Jeremy Bulloch at the event. I didn’t chat to them very long, but I’m pleased I saw them.

Glad you like my photos with the Cybermen, Leigh. That’s my acting going into getting worried by the two Cybermen surrounding me. It was a relief to get away from them. 😀

Many thanks for your comments, Leigh. Glad you enjoyed my report. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Peter and Sarah, who were the highlight of the convention for me. I’m now looking forward to and getting ready for the next convention in Weston-super-Mare next. 😀

Stay tuned for a convention report on that next week!

      Tim. 🙂

      Thanks Simon.

Let me know when Sarah mentions me in a Big Finish interview. I look forward to hearing it! 😀 I’m so pleased Sarah likes and uses my Nyssa timeline. I’ll be giving her an updated version of Nyssa’s timeline at the new convention I see her at in Weston-super-Mare.

Glad you like my photos, Simon. Yes, I heard Peter’s autobiography will be coming soon on Amazon. I’ll see if I can ask Peter about that the next time I see him at a convention.

Thanks Simon. Hearing you say that about the photo of Peter, Sarah and me as the Doctor, Nyssa and Billy means a lot to me. I’ll mention it to them next time I see them that we’ve recorded a Big Finish audio adventure recently. 😀

I’m pleased I cheered you up with my convention report, Simon. I did enjoy myself and have a great time. I was saddened when it was over on the day, but I’m not downhearted as I’m looking forward to Weston-super-Mare next.

I did see your photos at the ‘Doctor Who Experience’ exhibition in London, yes Simon. I’m sure that I liked and commented on them. They’re really great those pics of you with Cybermen and Davros.

Many thanks, Simon. Hope you enjoy the rest of my blog.

      Tim. 🙂
