Convention Memories – ‘Collectormania Glasgow 2012’

Hello everyone! 🙂

I’ve recently been to Worcester for a convention last weekend, as recounted in my ‘Convention Report – Worcester Comic Con’. I’m now looking forward to my next convention this week at the ‘Stars of Time Film and Comic Con’ at the Tropicana in Weston-super-Mare. So excited! 😀

In the run-up to my next convention, I’d like to share with you some memories I have of attending a Showmasters event in Glasgow, August 2012. That was the ‘Collectormania Glasgow 2012’ event. I have very happy memories of that event as I saw Sarah Sutton, Colin Baker and David Gooderson (Davros from ‘Destiny of the Daleks’) there.

Collectormania Glasgow 2012, Braehead Arena, August 2012

Cast your minds back to August 2012 on Saturday the 25th (four years ago today)! It was a week before Matt Smith’s third season (Series 7A) began with ‘Asylum of the Daleks’. I was on my way for a summer holiday with my parents to Scotland. But first, I was off to attend ‘Collectormania Glasgow’!

The event was held in the Braehead Arena on the outskirts of Glasgow. It was a two-day event, but I only attended the Saturday since Sarah Sutton and Colin Baker were going to be there. The weather wasn’t great on the day, but thankfully I didn’t have to worry as the event was held inside the arena.

I enjoyed the day very much. I saw Sarah Sutton, my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ companion, a number of the times during the day. I saw her for a signing session where she signed ‘The Eternal Summer’ and ‘Plague of the Daleks’. We chatted about the Big Finish audios she did, including ‘The Emerald Tiger’.

I later saw Sarah for a photo shoot session as well as with Colin Baker. The highlight of the day was attending the panel talk with Sarah Sutton, Colin Baker and David Gooderson. It was an enjoyable half-hour and I’m glad it was recorded on video on YouTube.

I saw Colin Baker and David Gooderson for signings during the day. It was great to see them and I enjoyed chatting with them about their roles in ‘Doctor Who’. Colin was marvellous and I enjoyed meeting David for the first time and chatting about how he played Davros in ‘Destiny of the Daleks’.

I also saw Caitlin Blackwood who played Amelia Pond and Nina Toussaint-White who played Mels in the new series of ‘Doctor Who’ with Matt Smith. I remember attending a panel talk with both girls on the day. I recall asking Caitlin about Matt when he was eating fish fingers and custard on that day.

I was thrilled to meet Sarah Douglas at the event. Sarah played Ursa in the original ‘Superman’ movies with Christopher Reeve. I enjoyed seeing her and having a chat with her. Sarah Sutton told me that both she and Sarah Douglas shared the same birthday on the 12th December which was so interesting.

The day finished for me with seeing Sarah for the last time for a signing session. I asked Sarah to sign the ‘WHO GIRLS Calendar 2013’ for me. She signed her December photo with ‘Merry Christmas Tim!’ on it which was very nice of her. We also chatted about the lovely late Mary Tamm on the calendar.

I came away from the event, feeling very happy that I’d seen Sarah Sutton, Colin Baker, David Gooderson and other guests that day. It was a good start for the summer holiday for me, before my parents and I went to stay in a cottage in the Highlands. Nothing like that has happened again so far!

I’ve seen Sarah Sutton at more conventions since Glasgow. I cherish each convention I go to and look back with fondness seeing all the guests who played some of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ characters.

To finish this blog post off, here are four YouTube videos containing the panel talk with Sarah Sutton, Colin Baker and David Gooderson. Two YouTube authors recorded these videos of the panel talk. I was pleased to find these videos after my family summer holiday in Scotland, August 2012.

The first two videos were done by Doctorwhoer and the second two were done by demonstap1er. The first two videos contain the complete panel talk whilst the second two contain segments of the talk. Listen out for me asking a question to Sarah in the first of these four YouTube videos. It was a magical moment for me to hear me asking a question to Sarah on the day and to hear her answering it too.

Thanks for reading and watching!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂

Oh dear! I didn’t realize my meeting Sarah Douglas from ‘Superman II’ would upset you, Simon. 😀
