Tim’s Nostalgia Trip

Last Wednesday, I did my second music presentation at the ‘Newport Music Society’ for Christmas! It was called ‘Tim’s Nostalgia Trip’! I enjoyed doing my presentation so much and everyone else who attended enjoyed it too. There was a variety of some of my music favourites to enjoy!

I’d done a music presentation in Newport earlier this year, which was called ‘Tim’s Glenn Miller Favourites’ in April 2016. ‘Tim’s Nostalgia Trip’ was different this time, as I presented some of my favourite pieces of music from various composers, TV shows and films that I’ve liked over the years.

The presentation started with two happy musical numbers including ‘Happiness In’ by Ray Conniff and ‘That Happy Feeling’ by Bert Kaempfert and his Orchestra. Then I played two ‘Spider-Man’ items including the ‘Spider-Man’ theme song performed by Matt Ford and the Fat Chops Big Band and the song ‘Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head’ performed by B.J. Thomas in the ‘Spider-Man 2’ film from 2004.

Next there was a jazzy instrumental of the song ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’ from ‘Toy Story 2’, with music by Tom Scott. Then there was an interesting rendition of ‘The Charleston’ by Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra, and I know ‘The Charleston’ well from watching the ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘Black Orchid’.

Then there were two ‘Star Trek’ numbers performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra including the ‘Star Trek’ TV theme from ‘The Original Series’ and the End Credits music from ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’. I then played the song ‘Mr Blue Sky’ performed by the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) which I knew very well from watching the new series ‘Doctor Who’ episode ‘Love & Monsters’.

I then played the ‘Dad’s Army’ theme song ‘Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Mr. Hitler?’ Then I played the song ‘On The Trail of the Lonesome Pine’ performed by Laurel & Hardy from the film ‘Way Out West’. I then played two items from the first ‘Back to the Future’ movie including ‘Night Train’ and ‘Earth Angel’ which were performed by Marvin Berry and the Starlighters during the film.

Then there was a music track for my Dad as I played the song ‘Over The Rainbow’ performed by Judy Garland from the film ‘The Wizard of Oz’. I also played the song ‘You Make Me Feel So Young’ performed by Frank Sinatra which I had heard from watching the Christmas film ‘Elf’ with Will Ferrell.

The presentation ended with a Christmassy-styled number in ‘It Happened In Sun Valley’ performed by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra from the film ‘Sun Valley Serenade’. I was so pleased everyone enjoyed my music presentation and I knew that Mick White who was helping me enjoyed it as well.

‘Tim’s Nostalgia Trip’ went very well and I’m glad I was able to provide a variety of some of my favourite music for my presentation. I don’t know whether I’ll be doing another music presentation for the ‘Newport Music Society’ in the New Year, but I will look forward to it should I do so
