Quick DVD Box Set Review – ‘James Bond 007 – The Roger Moore Collection’

The name is Bond…James Bond!

For the past two months, I’ve been watching the James Bond movies with Sir Roger Moore with my parents! I’ve enjoyed watching all seven James Bond movies! They’ve been full of action; adventure; thrills; guns; cars; psychotic villains and of course so many beautiful girls for Bond to fall in love with!

Roger Moore was someone I knew about already, as he played Simon Templar in ‘The Saint’ TV series during the 1960s. It’s no surprise that he went on to play James Bond in the movies during the 1970s and 80s. He’s definitely one of the best actors to play James Bond during the long run of films.

In his performances as James Bond, Roger Moore delivers wit, charm, intellect and a sense of humour compared to other actors who’ve played him. I’m not an avid James Bond fan, but knowing the films are action-packed, full of adventure and full of romance is enough to make me enjoy them.

Roger Moore played James Bond from 1973 to 1985 and starred in seven films. He must be the longest running actor to play James Bond in the movies. The seven movies are ‘Live and Let Die’; ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’; ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’; ‘Moonraker’; ‘For Your Eyes Only’; ‘Octopussy’ and ‘A View To A Kill’. Some of these are my favourites from the James Bond film series!

‘Live and Let Die’ stars James Bond with James Seymour and Yaphet Kotto. This film has a Day of the Dead festival atmosphere to it. I don’t think it’s the best James Bond movie I’ve seen, but it’s fairly enjoyable and Roger Moore stands out well in this film for his sensational performance as Mr. Bond.

‘The Man With The Golden Gun’ is one of my favourite James Bond movies and was also the first one I’d seen with Roger Moore in it! It features Christopher Lee as the villainous Scaramanga and this was before he played Saruman in ‘The Lord of the Rings’. It also has dwarf henchman Nick Nack in it!

‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ is another great Bond movie and is my best mate Stephen’s favourite. This film is a love story for James Bond who meets Barbara Bach as beautiful Russian spy Anya Amasova. There is also Caroline Munro as Naomi, Curt Jurgens as evil Stromberg and Richard Kiel as evil Jaws.

‘Moonraker’ is a Bond movie that surprisingly sees our hero set off into outer space for a change! It features the return of Jaws in it and has Bond join forces with Lois Chiles as NASA scientist Holly Goodhead. They work together to stop Michael Lonsdale as the power-mad industrialist Hugo Drax.

‘For Your Eyes Only’ is another good Bond movie. It features some favourite stars of mine. As well as Roger Moore, there’s Julian Glover (who was in the ‘Doctor Who’ stories ‘The Crusade’ and ‘City of Death’) as the villainous Kristatos. There’s also Topol who I’ve seen in the ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ film.

‘Octopussy’ is another enjoyable movie that has James Bond solving a mystery about a fellow agent’s murder and a priceless Fabergé egg. It also has him meet Maud Adams (who was also in ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’) as the glamorous Octopussy. There’s also Louis Jourdan as Kamal Khan.

‘A View To A Kill’ is the seventh and final film with Roger Moore as James Bond. It’s really good as it sees Bond saving the world from Christopher Walken as the psychotic Max Zorin. This film also features Patrick McNee (from ‘The Avengers’) as Sir Godfrey Tibbett; Grace Jones as May Day and Tanya Roberts as Stacey Sutton.

The Roger Moore collection of James Bond movies has been very enjoyable indeed. ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’, ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ and ‘For Your Eyes Only’ are probably my favourites from this collection. It’s been great to revisit these films and see Roger Moore in a role that suits him well.

When I saw ‘A View To A Kill’, it was a great way to honour and tribute Roger Moore, who sadly passed away recently. Roger Moore will always be Simon Templar from ‘The Saint’ for me, but it’s good he went on to play James Bond in the movies and that’s how he’ll be remembered years later!
