Movie Review – ‘Wonder Woman’

Hello everyone! 🙂

SPOILERS ALERT!!!

I greatly enjoyed seeing the new ‘Wonder Woman’ movie at the cinemas!

‘Wonder Woman’ stars Gal Gadot in the title role of the movie. Gal made her first appearance as Wonder Woman in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’. It was great to see Wonder Woman in her own movie and I assume this is the first time where she gets to be the main superhero in a film.

The movie is about Princess Diana who grows up on the Amazon island of Themyscira. There’s a lot of Greek myth and legends woven into ‘Wonder Woman’, especially when references are made to Zeus and there’s an appearance of Ares. ‘Wonder Woman’ is also a prequel to ‘Batman v Superman’.

Eventually, an American pilot named Steve Trevor who also works for British Intelligence, crashes into the sea close by to Themyscira and is rescued by Diana. After defeating a patrol of German soldiers attacking the island, Steve reveals to Diana and her people about his mission in the First World War.

Believing that the main enemy of this ongoing world outside of her world is Ares, Diana accompanies Steve on his mission to fight in the war. I enjoyed the First World War setting of the movie, especially when our heroes go to London and eventually fight against the enemy on No-Man’s Land in the war.

Gal Gadot is wonderful as Wonder Woman in this movie. She’s irresistibly gorgeous and fights well in her Wonder Woman outfit. Well, she is Greek after all. I enjoyed the journey Diana as Wonder Woman goes through when she experiences the horrors of war and gradually becomes the heroine.

Chris Pine stars as Steve Trevor, the love interest for Wonder Woman in this movie. Chris is well-known for playing Captain Kirk in the reboot ‘Star Trek’ film series including ‘Star Trek Beyond’. I liked the love story of Diana and Steve in this movie, especially when journeying together off to the war.

The action sequences in the movie are pretty good and it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the story. The plot was pretty straight-forward unlike ‘Batman v Superman’ was. The villains were pretty interesting including ‘Doctor Poison’; General Ludendorff and the reveal of Ares at the movie’s end.

The story’s end in the movie was a little sad, especially with the death of one of the main characters (I won’t say who it is). But the result of that character’s death gave Diana the strength to fight and to finish off Ares at the end. It was saddening for Diana, but she goes on to fight and save people.

‘Wonder Woman’ has been regarded as ‘the greatest superhero movie of the year’ so far! I’m inclined to agree with that (although I’ve yet to see ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’). I enjoyed the ‘Wonder Woman’ story a lot, as well as enjoying Gal Gadot and Chris Pine’s performances in the film.

The question remains however – How come ‘Wonder Woman’ is better than ‘Batman v Superman’?

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂

  2. Hi Simon.

Glad you enjoyed my review on ‘Wonder Woman’. Very pleased you enjoyed this movie as well as me. This was a better effort compared to ‘Batman v Superman’ which was a mess of a film last year.

I’m looking forward to seeing ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ at the cinema. I doubt it’ll match to the same quality of ‘Spider-Man’ movies with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, but it’ll be fun to watch.

    Thanks Simon.

  3. Trust me Tim, the new Spider-Man movie will be the best adaption yet because Marvel Studios are involved in the production & wasn’t for the other films although Spider-Man 2 the film to beat as it’s my favourite Spidet-Man film.

Did you know Graphic Audio have released Spider-Man audios? Here’s the link.
