‘The Space Hotel’ – Part Four, Chapter 15

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

In this instalment of ‘The Space Hotel’, Billy gets to sing. Will he able to do this to help the Doctor and Nyssa by distracting the murderer? Things become heated not just on Rotenhend Hotel 360, but also with Gordon Rotenhend who is about to burn his son Joel alive. Will our heroes ever save Joel?!

Here is a brief summary of what ‘The Space Hotel’ is all about.

The TARDIS takes the Doctor, Nyssa and Billy to Rotenhend Hotel 360 in the 37th century. They meet a rude hotel manager and murders take place.

Enjoy!

Tim. 🙂

15. Musical Distraction

SCENE #134 – EXT – JUNGLE (SIMI-SUITE #5) – 37TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
It is now the afternoon. Still in simi-suite #5, on Level #59 of the space hotel, Elizabeth is in jungle clothes and gear, holding a net in her hand. She stalks the jungle, treading her way carefully as she tries to find the Doctor, Nyssa and Billy. Monkeys chant in the background, as she moves about in the jungle.

ELIZABETH
(taunts) “Doctor? Doctor? Come out, come out, wherever you are!” (Pause) “Doctor; Nyssa; Billy? You can’t hide from me!”

Elizabeth makes a triumphant cry, as she brushes a bush of nettles aside with her net. She then becomes disappointed, as there’s nothing there. She moves on ahead.

ELIZABETH
(taunts) “Where are you?”

A tiger then jumps in front of Elizabeth, growling fiercely at her.

ELIZABETH
(formidably) “Get back you, lame cat!”

Before the tiger has a chance to make a scratch on her, it retreats feebly back into the jungle. Elizabeth carries on walking forward in the jungle with the net in her hand.

ELIZABETH
(taunts) “Come on, Doctor! You’re still on the run! You can’t hide forever in this jungle! In this…”

The jungle scenario phases in and out instantly around Elizabeth.

SCENE #135 – INT – DANCE VENUE (SIMI-SUITE #5) – 37TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
Everything reverts back to normal, but Elizabeth is now in a different scenario altogether.

ELIZABETH
(finishes; confused) “…dance floor?”

The scene has suddenly changed. Elizabeth looks around as she finds herself in a dance venue with many people dancing on a dance floor. This is similar to the dance created for Nyssa and Billy from ‘Part One’. Music is played by a jazz band for the Frank Sinatra song ‘I’ve got you under my skin!’ in the background for this sequence. Elizabeth gets annoyed, as she’s pushed from side to side to another by dancers.

ELIZABETH
(annoyed) “Don’t push me! Get out of my way! Give me some space here!”

As Elizabeth tries to push her way through the crowd of people, the crowd’s pushing her back in and she struggles to break free.

ELIZABETH
(breathlessly) “What…what’s going on?”

She looks up and gasps, as Billy is on stage and starts signing the song ‘I’ve got you under my skin!’.* Elizabeth shouts and interrupts Billy’s singing. But Billy sings on regardless, ignoring Elizabeth.

ELIZABETH
(shouts) “What is this? What’s happened to my program? And what is this awful music?”

Billy ignores Elizabeth shouting at him, as he continues singing. Frustrated and bewildered, Elizabeth tries again to push her way through the crowd to get to Billy on the stage.

ELIZABETH
(shouts) “Mr. Walker? What is it you and the Doctor…?” (Pause) “Just wait until I get you, young man!”

Elizabeth advances forward to reach Billy. Billy slowly makes his way off the stage, before making to run away from Elizabeth. Billy still sings as he does this. He then runs off down the stage; dodges past Elizabeth and passes through the crowd.

ELIZABETH
(shouts) “Come back here!”

Billy dances through the crowd. The dancers cheer him on, whilst Elizabeth chases after him.

ELIZABETH
(vengefully) “I’m going to get you!”

Billy comes to the end of singing Verse #1 of the song of ‘I’ve got you under my skin’, before calling out to Lady Mite on the intercom.

BILLY
(out loud; quickly; to Lady Mite) “Okay, Lady Mite! Change to second scene!”

The dance venue scenario instantly phases in and out around Elizabeth and Billy.

SCENE #136 – EXT – NEW YORK CITY (SIMI-SUITE #5) – 37TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
Everything reverts back to normal. Billy and Elizabeth are in a different scenario altogether again. They’re now in a New York street setting, with cars on the road. The Frank Sinatra music and song continues, as Billy drives a 1930s car. Billy starts singing the Verse #2 of the song of ‘I’ve got you under my skin’, whilst Elizabeth is seated behind him in the passenger seat.

ELIZABETH
(angrily) “What is this? Why am I in this confounded contraption of a car? And in a city like this, whatever it is?!”

Billy keeps ignoring Elizabeth, as he sings the songs and drives the car. He directs some lyrics of the song at Elizabeth whilst in the car.

ELIZABETH
(angrily) “Where’s the Doctor, boy? Where’s Nyssa?”

Billy directs another set of lyrics of the song at Elizabeth in the car.

ELIZABETH
(determined) “Right! I’m coming over there…”

But just as Elizabeth tries to reach for Billy from the back of the car, she finds herself restrained and strapped in the seat she’s in. She realises she’s trapped and tries to break free, but with little success. Billy laughs, as she continues signing.

ELIZABETH
(angrily) “You’ve got me strapped tight in this thing! You can’t do that!”

Billy directs the lyric ‘I’ve got you under my skin’ at Elizabeth.

ELIZABETH
(yells; angrily) “Let me go! Let me go at once!”

Billy laughs and repeats the lyric ‘I’ve got you under my skin’ at Elizabeth again.

BILLY
(quietly; to himself) “I hope Doctor and Nyssa have luck…whatever they’re doing.”

Billy continues driving the car with Elizabeth strapped and trapped in the passenger seat behind him. The jazz music for the song continues in the background.

SCENE #137 – INT – SIMI-SUITE #5, LEVEL #59 – 37TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
The Frank Sinatra musical distraction continues faintly in the background, as the Doctor and Nyssa see the polarizer panels materialize before them.

NYSSA
(thrilled) “The polarizer panels, Doctor!”

DOCTOR
“About time! Come on!”

Nyssa and the Doctor approach and kneel down to access the polarizer panels. The Doctor takes out his sonic screwdriver from his pocket, as he’s about to unscrew the hinges off one of the panel’s surfaces.

NYSSA
“Can you open it?”

DOCTOR
“Just a little bit more…”

Eventually, the panel surface is unhinged as it drops to the floor. Both the Doctor and Nyssa are startled once this happens.

DOCTOR
(pleased) “There! See? Done!”

The Doctor picks up the panel surface and hands it over to Nyssa.

DOCTOR
“Take this Nyssa, will you?”

NYSSA
(slightly tense) “Of course.”

Nyssa takes the panel surface from the Doctor and puts it to one side.

DOCTOR
(insistent) “Now, hand me one of those stabilisers! Quickly!”

Nyssa hands over one of the holographic stabilisers to the Doctor.

NYSSA
“Do you think this will work, Doctor? With the stabiliser?”

The Doctor takes the stabiliser from Nyssa.

DOCTOR
“It’s got to work, Nyssa!” (out loud) “Hello?! Lady Mite, are you there?”

Lady Mite then speaks on the intercom.

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Yes Doctor, I hear you. You’ve gained access to one of the polarizer panels then?”

DOCTOR
(out loud; to Lady Mite) “Yes, we have! You took your time though, didn’t you?”

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Well I had to help with Mr. Walker’s distraction. I can’t help him and you both at the same time, can I?”

DOCTOR
(out loud; to Lady Mite) “Well, never mind about that! Can you still access these simi-suites at your end?”

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Yes I can.”

DOCTOR
(out loud; to Lady Mite) “Good.”

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Though I can’t keep it up much longer. My computations are already being counteracted by Rotenhend’s little virus checkers!”

DOCTOR
(out loud; to Lady Mite) “Ah. Then we’ll have to act quickly!” (to Nyssa) “Nyssa, help me install this stabiliser above the polarizer panel!”

Nyssa moves forward and helps the Doctor place the stabiliser above the polarizer panel. They press a few buttons and the stabiliser compresses into the holographic grid wall above the panel.

NYSSA
“Locking mechanisms checked. View screens functional.” (to Doctor) “It’s all in place, Doctor!”

LADY MITE (V’O)
(panics) “Doctor; Nyssa! You’d better hurry up!”

NYSSA
(out loud: to Lady Mite) “Why, what’s happening?”

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Another shockwave is approaching the space hotel. It’ll be there within five Earth minutes.”

DOCTOR
(out loud: to Lady Mite) “Perfect timing. Now, for the stabiliser.”

Larry then speaks on the intercom.

LARRY (V’O)
You be careful with that stabiliser, Doctor! That cost me a fortune…”

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Oh shut up Larry and get off the line!”

Larry gets hurled off, as Lady Mite resumes her conversation with the Doctor.

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Doctor? What do you want me to do now?”

DOCTOR
(out loud; to Lady Mite) “I’m going to reset the architectural configuration of this simi-suite grid with this stabiliser to a lower level of atomisers. This should limit the field’s variance and cause Elizabeth to go panicky when she realises she can’t transport me, Nyssa and Billy.”

NYSSA
“How low a level, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
“Oh uh…about four hundred and twenty.”

LADY MITE (V’O)
(shocked) “Four hundred and twenty?”

DOCTOR
(out loud; to Lady Mite) “That’s what I said! Four hundred and twenty!”

NYSSA
“Isn’t that dangerous, Doctor? We could get ourselves killed if that level was lowered.”

DOCTOR
“Not if we put a spanner in the works!”

NYSSA
“A spanner in the works?”

DOCTOR
“Yes. Once the shockwave impacts this stabilizer, it can hold us in limbo for as long as five minutes. Then with my sonic screwdriver, I can break the connection of the power supply in this polarizer panel which is directed from the space station to cause an overload. Lady Mite can provide a refuelling of atomisers from the simi-suite on the station in order to reset the configuration.”

NYSSA
“But there’s still a probability that we could get ourselves killed! Including Billy!”

DOCTOR
“Billy’s willing to trust my judgement. I suggest you should do the same, Nyssa.”

NYSSA
“Not when it’s a high death point.”

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Doctor, as one Time Lord to another, I cannot advise this ridiculous if not to say fantastic scheme you have…”

DOCTOR
(out loud; to Lady Mite) “This isn’t open for debate, Lady Mite. Now can you send a refuelling of atomisers from where you are to here?”

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Doctor…”

DOCTOR
(out loud; to Lady Mite) “Can you do it?”

LADY MITE (V’O)
(gradually) “Yes I can.” (Pause) “For your information, the shockwave will approach you in three point five minutes.”

DOCTOR
(to himself) “Three point five minutes.” (Pause; out loud; to Lady Mite) “It’ll have to do.” (Pause) “Oh by the way! Mrs. Rotenhend might want to be kept safe! So when the procedure occurs, download her into the space station’s database so that she can be transferred from the hotel to you! Is that clear?”

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Very clear Doctor.”

NYSSA
(distraught) “Doctor…”

DOCTOR
“Right, now. I’ll just enter a few logic keys in this stabilizer and reset the configuration of the architectural structure…to four hundred and twenty.”

The Doctor presses a few buttons on the stabiliser to enter the resetting.

NYSSA
“Doctor, if we reset the configuration to that level we’ll have limited space.”

DOCTOR
“Yes. So we’ll have to hold our breath for a little bit whilst the overload occurs.”

NYSSA
“We can’t survive in a simulated environment for five minutes let alone one.”

DOCTOR
“Trust me, Nyssa. If we get through this, we get through this. If not…”

NYSSA
“What?”

DOCTOR
“We die.”

Moment of silence.

DOCTOR
“Would you rather sacrifice many others to come to this hotel and be snatched by a mad woman who’s as hollow as a black hole?”

Nyssa contemplates, as the Doctor finishes the resetting of the reconfiguration.

NYSSA
“It’s been nice knowing you, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
“You too, Nyssa. You too.” (Pause) “Level setting inserted. Ready to enter.”

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Doctor? Shockwave impact in thirty seconds.”

DOCTOR
(out loud; to Lady Mite) “Thank you, Lady Mite.” (Pause) “Thank you for all your help.”

LADY MITE (V’O)
“It’s been an honour meeting you again, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
(out loud; to Lady Mite) “Likewise.”

LADY MITE (V’O)
(apprehensive) “And Doctor…I…I…”

DOCTOR
(out loud; to Lady Mite) “I know.”

Moment of silence.

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Shockwave impact in fifteen seconds.”

DOCTOR
(to Nyssa) “Hold tight, Nyssa.”

NYSSA
“I hope I’ll be able to see Billy after this.”

DOCTOR
“So do I, Nyssa. I’ve got quite used to him.”

NYSSA
“I’m sure Billy will be pleased to hear you say that, Doctor.”

Moment of silence.

LADY MITE (V’O)
“Shockwave impact in ten…nine…eight….seven…”

DOCTOR
(interjects) “About to reset configuration…”

LADY MITE (V’O)
(continues) “…Six…five…four…three…two…one…Impact!”

DOCTOR
“Now!”

The simi-suite then phases in and out, as the Doctor presses a button on the stabiliser. The simi-suite now shudders violently, as the Doctor and Nyssa hold on tight to the walls.

DOCTOR
“Hold tight, Nyssa! Hold tight to the walls!”

NYSSA
“I am holding tight to the walls, Doctor!”

The Doctor and Nyssa keep holding on, as the place shudders violently. Mini-explosions go off in all directions. Nyssa cries, as an explosion occurs next to her.

SCENE #138 – EXT – NEW YORK CITY (SIMI-SUITE #5) – 37TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
Back with Billy and Elizabeth, the New York street phases in and out again, shuddering into fragments. The cars seem very fuzzy, as the horn noises vary in pitch and frequency. The Frank Sinatra music also varies in pitch and frequency, as it goes from high to low in a comical but disturbing manner.

ELIZABETH
(upset; distraught) “My suite! What have you done, you blundering idiots! You’re ruining everything!”

BILLY
(laughs) “Face it, Mrs. Rotenhend. You can never win! You under the Doctor’s skin!”

ELIZABETH
(yells) “Stop this! Stop this!” (Pause) “More power! I need more power! It’s getting smaller and smaller! I can feel…”

Elizabeth then screams, as she vanishes in a puff of logic.

BILLY
(baffled) “Mrs. Rotenhend? Mrs. Rotenhend, where are you?”

Explosions go on around Billy, as the music dies out and everything goes awry.

BILLY
(slightly worried) “Doctor? Please make this stop soon. I’m anxious myself!”

Billy remains still, as everything gets smaller and smaller where he is.

SCENE #139 – INT – SIMI-SUITE #5, LEVEL #59 – 37TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
Back with the Doctor and Nyssa accessing the polarizer panel…

NYSSA
“Doctor? Are you…?”

DOCTOR
“Yes I am. I’m going to use the sonic screwdriver now!”

NYSSA
“Take care, Doctor. That panel might fry out when you use the screwdriver.”

The Doctor holds the sonic screwdriver at the polarizer panel and uses it, buzzing away. Just then, the sonic screwdriver flies out of his hand and it explodes with sparks of fire. The Doctor reacts in pain.

NYSSA
(shocked) “Doctor? Are you alright?”

DOCTOR
(in pain) “Never play with fire! And there’s goes my sonic screwdriver!”

NYSSA
“You’ve burned yourself!”

DOCTOR
“Oh just a little scratch!”

The place shudders more, as bigger explosions occur.

NYSSA
“Doctor! This simulation won’t stabilise any longer!”

DOCTOR
“No. And we’ve lost the sonic screwdriver to deal with it!”

NYSSA
“I told you reconfiguring to four hundred and twenty wasn’t a good idea!”

DOCTOR
“Ah well. We’ll just have to use something else.”

NYSSA
“Such as what?”

DOCTOR
“Something…non conductive. Refined. Uh…resistant to chemicals. Plastic…”

NYSSA
“What about this hair comb, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
“What?”

NYSSA
“This hair comb. You gave it to me whilst I was in the swimming pool.”

DOCTOR
“Did I?”

NYSSA
“Come on, Doctor! Of course you did! You must have given it to me in order to use it for some future purpose! This must be it!”

DOCTOR
“Give it to me, Nyssa.”

Nyssa gives the Doctor the hair comb. He takes it from her…and begins to comb his hair with it.

NYSSA
“What are you doing?”

DOCTOR
“What does it look like? I’m combing my hair. I haven’t combed it all day…”

NYSSA
(agitated) “Doctor!”

The Doctor hands the comb to Nyssa.

DOCTOR
“Oh sorry, Nyssa. Do you want to comb your…?”

NYSSA
(agitated) “Doctor!”

DOCTOR
“Hmm? Oh sorry.”

The Doctor looks back to the junction in the polarizer panel, as he places the comb in it.

DOCTOR
“Now. All I have to do is just place this comb down the central lining of this box…position it slightly towards the left…and attempt to switch off the main power coupling that’s broadband access from the station.”

NYSSA
“And how will you do that?”

DOCTOR
“Simple.”

NYSSA
“What?”

DOCTOR
“Hit it!”

The Doctor immediately hits the junction in the panel with the comb. He backs away, taking Nyssa away as the polarizer panel explodes with sparks flying over the place.

DOCTOR
(anxiously) “Quick, Nyssa! Back!” (Pause) “Duck Nyssa, quick!”

The Doctor and Nyssa duck down, as the polarizer panel and the stabiliser explode in the simi-suite. This causes the simi-suite to shudder more with explosions occurring all over the place. This lasts for eight seconds.

SCENE #140 – INT – CORRIDOR, LEVEL #59 – 37TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
Later on, the Doctor and Nyssa lie on the floor in front of the entrance to simi-suite #5 on Level #59. Billy has managed to carry the Doctor and Nyssa out. He attempts to wake them up, as he shakes them gently. The doors of simi-suite #5 are wide open, as Billy tries to wake up the Doctor and Nyssa. Small explosions of sparks occur from inside simi-suite #5.

BILLY
“Nyssa; Doctor? Please wake up!”

No response.

BILLY
“It’s alright now. We’re out! Out of the simi-suites!”

Still no response.

BILLY
(panics) “Oh please! Nyssa, wake up!”

Billy shakes Nyssa gently. She doesn’t stir from unconsciousness. Moment of silence.

BILLY
(to Nyssa) “You’ve got such a gentle face.” (Pause) “Perhaps I should…do a little resuscitation on you.”

The Doctor wakes up immediately.

DOCTOR
“I don’t think that will be necessary, Billy! I’m perfectly capable of restoring normal health to myself!”

BILLY
(relieved) “Oh Doctor, I’m so glad you’re alright!”

DOCTOR
“So am I! What about Nyssa?”

BILLY
“Well I was going to do a little resuscitation on her but…”

DOCTOR
“Oh. You weren’t…?”

BILLY
“Weren’t what?”

DOCTOR
“Never mind.”

Nyssa then groans, as she comes to.

BILLY
(thrilled) “Doctor! She’s alive!”

DOCTOR
“Yes! Trakenites do have an immune system against death! So I’ve been told by her!”

BILLY
(intrigued) “Really?”

Nyssa wakes up, as she sees the Doctor and Billy before her.

NYSSA
(catches her breath) “Doctor; Billy?”

DOCTOR
“Hello, Nyssa.”

BILLY
(pleased) “Welcome back!”

DOCTOR
“See! I told you we would survive! No matter how fantastic and ridiculous!”

NYSSA
(bewildered) “We couldn’t possibly have survived that! The amount of energy exhumed was colossal!”

DOCTOR
“Not when there’s a safety mechanism to place a protection barrier over us!”

NYSSA
(astonished) “A protection barrier?”

DOCTOR
“Oh yes! They always have protection barriers installed in case of emergencies in these simi-suites! Made sure I preset it around us in case of a huge explosion, as there was from the polarizer panel!”

Nyssa rubs her head.

NYSSA
“Well, you might have told me instead of surprising me! When you say ‘us’, did that include Billy?”

DOCTOR
(hesitates) “I’ll check the simi-suite!”

The Doctor gets up from the floor and runs off inside simi-suite #5. Billy meanwhile attends to Nyssa.

BILLY
(endearingly) “I don’t know what you and the Doctor did, but it was incredible!”

NYSSA
(modestly) “Thank you, Billy. I’m pleased the Doctor and I impressed you so easily.”

Moment of silence.

BILLY
“Here. Let me help you up!”

Billy takes Nyssa by the hand and helps her up to her feet. Nyssa stands upright to face Billy.

NYSSA
“You’ve got a good singing voice, Billy!”

BILLY
(modestly) “Thanks. It’s a good thing my song ended when the shuddering started.”

Nyssa and Billy smile at each other for a while, before the Doctor returns to join them out of the simi-suite.

DOCTOR
“The whole simi-suite’s completely burned out. I wonder how the other suites are.”

NYSSA
“We should check the rest of the hotel to see if everything’s okay.” (to Billy) “Billy, you go and check the first few levels, including the lobby.”

BILLY
“Right.”

NYSSA
“I’ll go and check the kitchens, dining room and swimming pool.” (to Doctor) “Doctor, you check the simi-suites on this level and the level above. We three will rendezvous on level sixty to meet up. Let’s go!”

Nyssa and Billy head off for the turbo-lift to attend to their tasks. The Doctor remains silent for a while, quite startled by Nyssa’s latest confidence.

DOCTOR
“Right.” (Pause) “Right.”

The Doctor then goes off to simi-suite #6 next door. The simi-suite doors slide open to let him in.

SCENE #141 – INT – LOBBY, LEVEL #1 – 37TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
In the lobby on Level #1, the turbo-lift doors slide open. Billy steps out of the turbo-lift, entering the lobby. The lobby is in darkness, as Billy looks around to see if anyone is here.

BILLY
“Hey! You turned out the lights didn’t you, Doctor? With your fun and games with Nyssa.”

He makes his way over to the reception desk to see if he can find anyone behind or underneath it.

BILLY
(calls) “Hello? Anyone here at reception? Hello?!”

No response.

BILLY
(calls) “Mr. Rotenhend? Mr. Bruce?”

He then looks to see something in the dark.

BILLY
“Hang on! There is something! Down at the end of the lobby, in the dark”

Billy goes over to see.

BILLY
(gradually) “Torches?! Burning torches?! I thought everybody would be using flash-lights by this century!” (Pause) “Hang on. It looks like some sort of procession.”

Billy watches to see what the procession’s about and who’s among them..

BILLY
(realises) “Hey! There’s Gordon leading the procession with Bruce taking the rear. A group of hotel guests are carrying something.” (Pause; realises) “It’s Joel Rotenhend, still unconscious. He’s lying on a rack. What’s going on?”

Billy goes over to see.

BILLY
(calls) “Mr. Rotenhend? Mr. Rotenhend?”

Gordon ignores Billy.

GORDON
(calls; to Bruce) “Bruce! Have you got wood and oil?”

BRUCE
“I have.”

GORDON
“Good. Did you also bring shampoo with conditioner?”

BRUCE
“Sorry, sir. They ran out of stock!”

BILLY
(calls) “Mr. Rotenhend? Mr. Rotenhend, what are you doing?”

GORDON
(yells) “Go away! Leave me to my sorrows!”

BILLY
“What’s going on, Mr. Rotenhend? Why are you leading a procession? And…why have you got your son Joel on top of a rack?”

GORDON
“We’re heading for the dining room. We’re going for a barbecue!”

BILLY
“A barbecue?”

GORDON
“With Joel on top!”

BILLY
“What?”

GORDON
“Have you ever read ‘The Lord of the Rings’?”

BILLY
“Hey?”

GORDON
“That angry stupid steward of Gondor burned his son Faramir on a pyre when his father realised his son was dead!”

BILLY
“But your son isn’t dead, Mr. Rotenhend!”

GORDON
“He is! Otherwise why haven’t I seen him talk; laugh; spit; belch or…or do something!”

BILLY
“He’s just asleep, Mr. Rotenhend. And he needs medical attention!”

GORDON
(fumes) “How dare you! You’re fired!”

BILLY
“You fired me before, Mr. Rotenhend! What am I being fired for this time?”

GORDON
(shouts) “You’re the most insubordinate, pathetic, useless and utterly ‘waste of space’ waiter I’ve ever had! You’re fired! Fired; fired; fired! FIRED!!!”

BILLY
“But…”

GORDON
(shouts) “Bruce! Throw him out!”

BRUCE
“With pleasure, sir.”

But Billy immediately runs off, as he heads for the turbo-lift.

BILLY
“I’ve got to go and tell the Doctor!”

GORDON
“After him, you idiots! After him!”

Billy enters into the turbo-lift, which slides shuts as he goes in.

BRUCE
“Sorry, sir. I couldn’t catch him. My legs weren’t fast enough.”

GORDON
“Never mind. He can’t hurt us!” (to everyone) “Off to the dining room, everyone! Already my son’s body is burning! Already burning!”

Gordon carries on leading the procession, as they take his son off to the dining room to be burned.

SCENE #142 – INT – CORRIDOR, LEVEL #60 – 37TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
On Level #60, Nyssa reports to the Doctor.

DOCTOR
“Well, Nyssa?”

NYSSA
“There don’t seem to be many people in the swimming pool. Neither in the kitchen or the dining room.”

DOCTOR
“Well they wouldn’t be, would they? Look!”

Nyssa looks up to see what the Doctor’s referring to.

NYSSA
“The red alarm system!”

DOCTOR
“Yes. The signal for everyone to remain in their rooms. Unless of course they’ve evaluated the entire hotel, which could take hours and there’s no knowing how long we were in that simi-suite. And of course unless they’ve abandoned ship and fell out in space.”

NYSSA
“They wouldn’t fall out into a vacuum of space without oxygen!”

DOCTOR
“Maybe. Maybe not.”

NYSSA
“What about you?”

DOCTOR
“Oh the simi-suites are empty alright! Anyway it’s Mrs. Rotenhend we must worry about!”

NYSSA
“You think she’s still functional!”

DOCTOR
“Yes, I’ve been trying to gain contact with Lady Mite on the comm system, but haven’t had a response.”

NYSSA
“Maybe there’s interference on the wave length!”

DOCTOR
“Maybe. Or perhaps there’s something deadly wrong with the way things are handled on that space station!”

NYSSA
“With Mrs. Rotenhend?”

DOCTOR
“No with Enuji!”

NYSSA
(realises) “Oh yes! She was on that space station with Lady Mite and the two gentlemen.” (Pause) “You don’t think something’s gone wrong with her there, do you?”

DOCTOR
“I absolutely have no idea, which is why I must find out!” (Pause) “And there’s this hair comb we used, which is now burned out!”

NYSSA
“Oh yes. I…”

Just then, the turbo-lift doors slides open as Billy comes running out to meet the Doctor and Nyssa.

BILLY
(out of breath) “Doctor; Nyssa!”

NYSSA
“Billy? Did you check the first few levels of the hotel, including the lobby?”

BILLY
“Listen.”

NYSSA
“Well, did you?”

BILLY
“No I didn’t.”

NYSSA
(astonished) “Why didn’t you, Billy? People could be dying at the moment!”

BILLY
(raises voice) “Listen to me, you two! Mr. Rotenhend’s taken his son Joel to the dining room!”

DOCTOR
“Oh that’s nice!”

BILLY
“For a barbecue!”

DOCTOR
“Oh it’ll be like a father and son thing!”

BILLY
“No! He’s going to burn Joel alive!”

DOCTOR
(shocked) “What?! We can’t allow that!” (urgently) “Come on! Let’s go and stop him!”

Nyssa and Billy follow after the Doctor, as they make their way into the turbo-lift. The turbo-lift doors slide close as they go down.

SCENE #143 – INT – SIMI-SUITE (STATION) – 37TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
In the simi-suite aboard the small space station, Lady Mite tries to get Elizabeth to appear in the simi-suite. Larry and Bob watch beside her.

LARRY
“Come on, your ladyship! Keep trying!”

BOB
“Yeah, your ladyship! Keep trying!”

LARRY
“I already said that, Bob!”

LADY MITE
“Please, gentlemen! I’m doing my best! But I can’t seem to get through to the Doctor!”

Just then, Elizabeth is teleported back from the space hotel into the simi-suite. She shudders from the experience of the teleport. She stands there, gradually realising she’s back in the simi-suite on the small space station.

ELIZABETH
(flabbergasted; angrily) “What?! No! No, I can’t be back here! And I was so close!”

She then turns to Larry, Bob and Lady Mite before her and is startled.

LADY MITE
“Hello, Mrs. Rotenhend.”

LARRY
“Had a nice trip back?”

BOB
“Hope you haven’t injured yourself with your trip!”

ELIZABETH
(astonished) “But, but…how did…how did…?”

LADY MITE
(interjects) “Oh by the way! I think someone wants to speak to you!”

Elizabeth becomes puzzled, as Enuji enters the simi-suite with the doors already open.

ELIZABETH
“Enuji?! What are you…?”

ENUJI

Moment of silence, as Elizabeth is astonished and bewildered.
