SPOILERS ALERT!!!
Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
Oh ‘DC Comics Extended Universe’! You have quite a journey, haven’t you?!
The cinematic universe of the ‘DC Comics’ superheroes began with ‘Man of Steel’ featuring Henry Cavill’s Superman in 2013. It was a big hit, even though it divided fan opinion on whether they liked it or not. Next came ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ in 2016 and that film was a mess for me!
There was then ‘Suicide Squad’ in 2016, which I’ve not yet seen and find it absurd to have supervillains as the main heroes! 😀 And this year in 2017, we’ve had ‘Wonder Woman’ with Gal Gadot and it was a big hit! Did ‘Justice League’ restore my confidence in the ‘DC Comics’ superhero movies?
Well, to be honest with you…yes it did! I really enjoyed seeing ‘Justice League’ at the cinema when I was with my parents for our holiday break in Bath, November 2017. I was expecting this movie to be bad. But this movie made up a lot for the disappointment I had with ‘Batman v Superman’ last year!
The movie features the return of Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. The movie also introduced three new superheroes including Ezra Miller as the Flash; Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ray Fisher as Cyborg. These five heroes form together to become the Justice League!
I admit I wish we had origins movies for the Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg as it was unfair to introduce them in the first ‘Justice League’ movie where we don’t really know much about them compared to the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ movies. But the film does have decent introductions to the heroes.
The big highlight of this movie for me was the return of Henry Cavill as Superman. I admit it does seem a cheat to have Superman brought back to life after he was killed off in ‘Batman v Superman’. But it was glorious to have Superman back in in this film, since he’s one of my favourite superheroes.
The film also features the return of Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth. There’s also J. K. Simmons who played Commissioner Gordon in the film. I was amazed to see J. K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon since he played Jameson in the original ‘Spider-Man’ film trilogy.
There’s also Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, the villain of the movie. I’d seen Ciarán Hinds before in a 1995 TV film of ‘Persuasion’ by Jane Austen and ‘The Nativity Story’ 2006 film. The Justice League has to stop Steppenwolf and his insect-like army of Parademons from his plans in conquering the world.
So yeah! ‘Justice League’! It was good! It was better than I thought it was going to be! I’m pleased that Superman was restored to life in the film and I found the story easy to follow compared to ‘Batman v Superman’. The movie has restored my confidence in the ‘DC Comics’ superheroes films!
I’m looking forward to more films with the ‘DC Comics’ superheroes. I’m lucky to have watched this movie after I attended the ‘MCM Birmingham Comic Con’ and to have a little holiday break in Bath.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim. 🙂
Aquaman & Flash getting there own movie’s so I expect there origins be covered in more detail in those films.
I enjoyed it too far better than Thor 3 which was utterly stupid overuse of humour, Justice League pitched it about right, yeah it got a few flaws but as you say it’s better than BvS & I’m confident the blu-ray will feature a extended cut.
Did you see the extended cut of BvS? It slightly improves the film & explains a few key scenes better than the theatrical cut.
Suicide Squad is a average watch but Jared Leto as the Joker is shocking & not a patch on Heath Ledgers version.
I advise you watch the extended cut.
As ever a excellent review Tim.

Hi Simon.
Glad you enjoyed my review on ‘Justice League’.
I have seen reviews on ‘Batman v Superman’ and ‘Suicide Squad’ by the Nostalgia Critic to get a sense what the film is like. I hope I’ll get to re-watch these movies again, especially with their extended cuts when I come to see the DC Comic Extended Universe films from start to finish.
I’m glad you enjoyed ‘Justice League’ as well as me. Yeah it is better than ‘Thor 3’ and I won’t deny the film has got a few faults in it. I’m glad you agree with me that ‘Justice League’ is better than ‘Batman v Superman’.
I look forward to seeing the ‘Aquaman’ and ‘The Flash’ films when they come out at the cinemas. Thanks for letting me know, Simon.
Tim. 🙂
