SPOILERS ALERT!!!
Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
I’ve seen ‘The LEGO Movie 2’ at the cinema and really enjoyed it! ‘The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part’ is of course the sequel to the 2014 film, ‘The LEGO Movie’, which I also saw at the cinema and currently have on DVD and on download via Google Play. ‘The LEGO Movie 2’ is a worthwhile sequel!
Of course there have been other LEGO movies over the years including ‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ and ‘The LEGO Ninjago Movie’ which I saw at the cinema and have reviewed on my blog. So it’s only fair that I saw the sequel to ‘The LEGO Movie’ at the cinema and review it on ‘Bradley’s Basement’.
As I said, ‘The LEGO Movie 2’ is a worthwhile sequel to enjoy at the cinema. It continues the comedic and imaginative spirit of the first movie as well as continuing the themes that were developed in the first movie about being special. I liked the in-jokey spirit of the film and the twists and turns featured.
In the LEGO universe, the second movie takes place five years after the first film. It continues where the first film left off with the DUPLO invaders attacking Bricksburg and turning it into Apocalypseburg. Whilst everybody in the LEGO universe has become hardened within five years, one person hasn’t.
That person of course is Emmet, the construction worker, voiced by Chris Pratt. Emmet remains upbeat, optimistic and wanting to move into a dream house with his girlfriend Lucy/Wyldstyle, voiced by Elizabeth Banks. Lucy meanwhile wants Emmet to be really hardened and tough like she is.
Emmet also has a recurring dream of an impending Our-Mom-Ageddon. Very soon, Lucy; Batman; Benny the 1980s spaceman; MetalBeard and Unikitty get taken by General Sweet Mayhem, leader of the DUPLO army, to the Systar System. Emmet has to save his friends and stop Our-Mom-Ageddon.
And yes, as you’ve picked up, most of the characters from the first LEGO movie are back in this film. There’s Batman, voiced by Will Arnett, who is still the best and my favourite character from the LEGO movie series. I’m looking forward to when ‘The LEGO Batman Movie 2’ gets shown at cinemas.
I love many of the Batman in-jokes made in the film, as he says he’s been in nine films and three are in development. ‘The LEGO Batman Movie 2’ should be one of them. 😀 I love the mentions of Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, Val Kilmer, George Clooney and Adam West in this film.
Actually, I’m curious. Alfred Pennyworth, voiced by Ralph Fiennes from ‘The LEGO Batman Movie’, is in this film. Why couldn’t Robin and Barbara Gordon from ‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ be in the film? Why couldn’t characters like the ninja heroes from ‘The LEGO Ninjago Movie’ appear in this movie?
As well as Batman, there’s also Benny, voiced by Charlie Day; Unikitty, voiced by Alison Brie and MetalBeard, voiced by Nick Offerman. Will Ferrell also reprises his role as President Business in this movie. He also plays the Man Upstairs too, but it’s only off-screen and as a voice-over. Why is that?!
New characters featured in ‘The LEGO Movie 2’ include Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi, voiced by Tiffany Haddish, who is a shape-shifting alien queen of the Systar System that wants to marry Batman. There’s also General Sweet Mayhem, voiced by Stephanie Beatriz, who’s cool in her space-suit gear.
Another new character in this movie is Rex Dangervest, a self-declared galaxy-defending archaeologist; cowboy and raptor trainer! Yeah raptors are in this! He also turns out to be…a future version of Emmet, voiced by Chris Pratt. Wow! Even for me, I didn’t see that twist coming in the film.
It was quite interesting how the shock twist reveal turned out to be that Rex was a bitter version of Emmet from the future and that he travelled back in time to change the future with bits of the ‘Back to the Future’ Delorean and ‘Doctor Who’s TARDIS which I liked. Yeah I know it doesn’t make much logical sense, but this movie is depicted as a kids’ imagination so I can accept this for being that way.
Without a doubt, ‘The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part’ is a great follow-up to the first LEGO movie. I’m sure by the end of February; I will have seen this movie twice already. If you love the LEGO movie series, you’re bound to enjoy this film. I wonder if ‘The LEGO Movie 3: The Third Part’ will get made.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim. 🙂
