Day 1 – Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2019

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s Day 1 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2019’.

Let’s begin by talking about one of the companions who starred with William Hartnell in ‘Doctor Who’!

Tim Bradley with Peter Purves at ‘Pandorica 2015’, Bristol, September 2015

I first met Peter Purves at the ‘Regenerations 2013’ convention in Swansea, September 2013. Peter is well-known for playing Steven Taylor, companion of the First Doctor in the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series and the Big Finish audios. He is also well-known for being a presenter on ‘Blue Peter’ in the 1960s and 70s.

I’ve enjoyed meeting Peter Purves at conventions over the years. I’ve met him at conventions like ‘Dimensions 2013’ in Newcastle, October 2013; ‘Pandorica 2015’ in Bristol, September 2015 and ‘The Capitol II’ at the Arora Hotel in Gatwick, May 2017. I’ve enjoyed the chats I’ve had with Peter Purves.

Peter has signed some items for me at conventions. This includes the DVD covers of ‘The Chase’ and ‘The Time Meddler’. Peter has also signed the CD covers of ‘The Daleks’ Master Plan’ TV soundtrack and the Big Finish audio ‘The Five Companions’ for me. I’ve greatly enjoyed Peter as Steven in those stories.

I find that Peter stands out well for me as Steven in ‘Doctor Who’. I’ve enjoyed his interaction with William Hartnell’s Doctor in the TV stories he’s in as well as with Maureen O’Brien as Vicki, Jean Marsh as Sara Kingdom and Jackie Lane as Dodo. Peter also excels doing a good voice for William Hartnell’s Doctor.

This is when he performs William Hartnell’s Doctor in some of the Big Finish audios and the BBC audiobooks. His version of Hartnell’s Doctor sounds convincingly authentic on audio. I’m pleased I’ve met Peter at conventions and chatted to him about how much I’ve enjoyed him as Steven in ‘Doctor Who’.

Thanks for reading!
