‘Star Trek’ Tributes

Hello everyone. 😦

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley.

This year, we’ve sadly lost two ‘Star Trek’ stars – René Auberjonois who played Odo in ‘Deep Space Nine’ and Aron Eisenberg who played Nog in ‘Deep Space Nine’. I’m saddened by this as I’ve enjoyed seeing these two ‘Star Trek’ actors in ‘DS9’, with it being one of my favourite ‘Star Trek’ spin-off shows.

I’m currently watching Season 1 of ‘DS9’ on DVD. It’s been nice to revisit the ‘DS9’ series, though it will be tainted with the knowledge that René Auberjonois and Aron Eisenberg are no longer with us. I’ve had the chance to attend ‘Destination Star Trek Birmingham’ in October 2018 with the two there.

I met René Auberjonois briefly – having a photo with him and an autograph from him. I didn’t get the chance to meet Aron Eisenberg sadly, but he was in the ‘DS9’ group photo I had from the weekend. Both René and Aron are in the top right-hand corner of the group photo. It’s such a shame that I’ll never get to meet these two stars again at a future convention or comic con.

I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying the behind-the-scenes documentary ‘What We Left Behind’ to celebrate 25 years of ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’ at ‘Destination Star Trek Birmingham’. René and Aron were among the many interviewees and I enjoyed them sharing their memories of making the series.

I’ll always remember these two actors fondly for their ‘Star Trek’ roles. As well as playing Odo, René Auberjonois also played Colonel West in ‘Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country’ and did an episode of ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’. René also played Douglas Pabst in the ‘DS9’ TV episode ‘Far Beyond The Stars’.

Aron Eisenberg also played Kar, a Kazon boy in the ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ episode ‘Initiations’ as well as a news vendor in the ‘Star Trek: DS9’ episode ‘Far Beyond The Stars’. I found Nog’s journey in ‘Star Trek: DS9’ very well-written. Aron Eisenberg played the young Ferengi boy character so well in spades.

I’ve also heard René Auberjonois voice Chef Louie in the Disney film ‘The Little Mermaid’. I had no idea René starred with William Shatner in the law comedy-drama ‘Boston Legal’. It was amazing to discover that. Both René and Aron Eisenberg have been good actors in their careers and are well-liked.

I’ve seen the tributes via Twitter pour in for René Auberjonois and Aron Eisenberg from people like Armin Shimerman, William Shatner, George Takei, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Terry Farrell, Nana Visitor, Garrett Wang, Robert Picardo, etc. It’s amazing these stars were so well-loved by their friends.

I’m pleased I got to see René Auberjonois and Aron Eisenberg at ‘Destination Star Trek Birmingham’ last year. I’m saddened they’ve gone and I hope to continue enjoying them as Odo and Nog as I progress through revisiting ‘Star Trek: DS9’ on DVD. It’ll leave a hole, but I’ll remember them very fondly.

My prayers and thoughts are with the families and friends of René Auberjonois and Aron Eisenberg.

Thanks for reading.

Tim.
