Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
I’ve seen the third episode of Series 1 of ‘Grantchester’ this week. I’m really getting into these early ‘Grantchester’ episodes and I’m enjoying them every Wednesday. I recognised some faces in this episode. There was even one face I thought I recognised but it wasn’t actually who I was thinking of. 😀
In the episode, Morven Christie as Amanda and her fiancé Tom Austen as Guy Hopkins ask James Norton as Sidney Chambers to marry them at their wedding. Sidney is upset about this because he clearly loves Amanda. He agrees to marry them, provided he gets permission from the archdeacon. 😐
In the end, Sidney is reduced to drink before he recovers the next morning. He also welcomes the new curate Al Weaver as Leonard and introduces him to Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs. Maguire. Leonard has to give his first sermon at church but Sidney forgets to look over his sermon on the day.
This is due to Lucy Black as Isabel Livingstone and Kieran O’Brien as Arthur Evan wanting to get married but Isabel’s elderly mother Daisy Livingstone is against the marriage as she thinks Arthur is trying to kill her. Later on, Daisy dies before Sidney and Robson Green as Geordie investigate this. 😮
Jean Marsh guest stars as Daisy Livingstone in the episode. Jean’s done lots of things including playing Sara Kingdom in the ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘The Daleks’ Master Plan’ and she was in ‘The Crusade’ and ‘Battlefield’. There’s also Isla Blair who guest stars as Daisy’s sister, Gladys, in the story.
My Mum and I thought that Isla Blair was Brenda Blethyn as we watched the episode. She did look like her. 😀 The episode also features Mark Bonnar as Dr. Robinson. I recognised Mark for being in the ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘The Rebel Flesh’/’The Almost People’ and he’s been in the Big Finish audios.
This episode also features Nick Brimble as Jack Chapman who will be an essential character in the ‘Grantchester’ series. It’s intriguing how this episode presents the murder case being solved. Sidney and Geordie make assumptions whilst they investigate but the murderer is more than he appears. 🙂
It’s also intriguing how Sidney handles his feelings for Amanda. Apparently, he received a letter from the archdeacon, I believe, to say that her and Guy’s wedding can go ahead. Sidney lies to Amanda at first in order to prevent the wedding going ahead. But then he changes his mind and tells her the good news. 🙂
Series 1, Episode 3 of ‘Grantchester’ has been enjoyable to watch and it was nice to see some familiar faces in the episode. I like how the relationships are set up between characters like Sidney, Geordie, Leonard and Mrs. Maguire. I wonder how things will progress for the next episodes of this.
Here’s hoping my review on Series 1, Episode 4 of ‘Grantchester’ will be up next week.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
