Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
Last week, we finished this year’s ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe Film Review Season’. So, it’s only fair that we check out the trailer for the next upcoming film in the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ film series – ‘Black Widow’. This movie was originally supposed to be shown at the cinemas in May 2020.
Sadly, due to the coronavirus pandemic – please keep safe – it got postponed. The film is currently meant to be shown at cinemas (or via video on demand?) in October/November this year. Let’s hope that happens. ‘Black Widow’ is the first new film in Phase Four of the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ film series. What will this film be like?
Let’s check out the trailer.
Black Widow is a character that featured in the ‘MCU’ series since her debut in ‘Iron Man 2’. Since then, he’s appeared in ‘MCU’ films like ‘Avengers Assemble’, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Over the years, she has become quite a popular character amongst the Avengers group. 🙂
Scarlett Johansson will return to play Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the film. The film is directed by Cate Shortland and features stars like Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, Ray Winstone and Rachel Weisz. Just so you’re aware, I’m not so familiar with Black Widow’s history.
I have read her character in a few ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ comics and know her to be an assassin for hire before she became an Avenger. She was created by Stan Lee, Don Rico and Don Heck in the Marvel comics, making her first appearance ‘Tales of Suspense’ #52 in April 1964. It’ll be interesting to see how she fares out in her first solo Marvel superhero film, away from appearing in other films.
Apparently, the film takes place after the events of ‘Captain America: Civil War’. So, this should be interesting. I would’ve thought the film would take place before her time in the ‘MCU’. In fact, I thought it was going to take place before ‘Iron Man 2’. What about her past life with being a spy/assassin? It was hinted at in ‘Age of Ultron’. I’m sure it will be explored at some point in the film.
Anyway, according to the synopsis, Natasha finds herself alone and forced to confront a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past. She gets pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down. Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships she had left behind.
As well as Scarlett Johansson, the film will feature Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova…also called Black Widow, who is like a sister-figure for Natasha. There’s also David Harbour as Alexi Shostakov/Red Guardian, who is like a father figure for Natasha and Yelena; and there’s Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff…also called Black Widow, who is like a mother-figure for both Natasha and Yelena. Hmm!
Actually, with the four of them together as seen in the trailer, they do act like a dysfunctional family. Interesting that there’ll be family members of sorts for Natasha to interact with in the film. There’s also O. T. Fagbenle as Rick Mason, an ally from Natasha’s S.H.I.E.L.D. past and is her love interest in the film. I’ll look forward to see that in the film, since Scarlett/Natasha is a very attractive woman. 🙂
William Hurt will return as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross’ in the film. He’ll probably cause trouble due to the Soviet Accords from ‘Civil War’. There’s also Ray Winstone (who voiced Mr. Beaver in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’) as Dreykov, the head of the Red Room.
There’s meant to be a character called Taskmaster, who takes control of the Red Room from Natasha’s past. I’ve seen Taskmaster in the ‘Spider-Man’ PS4 game. Robert Downey Jr. has also been rumoured to appear as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the movie, which should be intriguing and exciting. 🙂
I’m looking forward to seeing ‘Black Widow’ starring Scarlett Johansson. I’m sad I didn’t get to see it on my birthday back in May this year, but hopefully I’ll be able to see it soon. It should be a fascinating film to begin Phase Four of the ‘MCU’ and to dive into Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow’s past as well as her character.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim. 🙂
