TARDIS

3. Yondamus IV

SCENE #25 – INT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – MORNING
On Yondamus IV, inside a warehouse, there is a deathly silence. Electrics spark and disorientated computer screens flicker. The inside of the warehouse is now in an aftermath state of a battle. No signs of movement are made by anybody. The silence is then broken, as the TARDIS appears as it materialises to land, whooshing and grinding, as it echoes throughout the warehouse. The TARDIS lands in the centre of the warehouse in the form of a police box. There is a loud thump as the TARDIS lands. Soon, the TARDIS doors open as the Doctor; Nyssa and Billy step out to look around the place.

DOCTOR
“Well! We seem to have arrived inside a warehouse.”

NYSSA
“It seems as if it’s deserted.”

DOCTOR
“Or perhaps it’s the end of the day and the workers have gone home. It’s pretty dark in here.”

NYSSA
“And gloomy.”

BILLY
(sniffs; reacts in disgust) “There’s a bit of pong in here isn’t there?!”

NYSSA
(reacts in disgust) “Now you come to mention it. The smell…” (coughs) ”It’s an absolute stench in here.” (sniffs) “I wonder where we are.”

DOCTOR
“Hang on. Let me see if I can get some lights on.”

The Doctor moves to the far side of a wall to finds an interface. He cheers triumphantly, as he accesses the interface to switch the lights on. He fiddles about with the interface for some time.

NYSSA
“Come on, Doctor. You have accessed it by now.”

DOCTOR
“Patience, Nyssa. I’m nearly there.”

Meanwhile, Billy strolls about the place to take a look around. He becomes entranced by a cargo-load of wooden boxes. Nyssa sees Billy and goes over to join him.

NYSSA
“Billy? What is it?”

Billy takes a closer look at the wooden boxes to read the label.

BILLY
“These boxes stacked up together.” (Pause; reads; pronounces correctly) “Nit-tro trit-tum grain.”

NYSSA
“What was that, Billy?”

BILLY
“They seem to have boxes of…” (reads; pronounces incorrectly) “…Nit-tro trit-tum grain.”

Nyssa takes a closer look at the label that Billy’s read to see for herself.

NYSSA
“Nitro-tritium grain, Billy.”

BILLY
(hesitates) “Yes…well something like that. I can hardly read it properly in the dark.”

DOCTOR
(cries) “Have no fear. Let there be light!”

The lights for the warehouse are turned on. The TARDIS trio are relieved.

DOCTOR
“And there was.”

Nyssa then gasps in horror. The TARDIS trio see the horrible sight before them.

BILLY
(sickened) “Now I can see where that stench was coming from.”

DOCTOR
“Yes, Billy. The stench of death. Poor fellows.”

NYSSA
(concerned; horrified) “How awful! What could have happened to them?”

BILLY
“Whatever they were. They’re unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. They’re not human. The blood’s the wrong colour.”

DOCTOR
“You’re lucky a Yondamon wouldn’t be able to hear you say that, Billy.”

NYSSA
“You’ve met them before, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
“Oh yes, Nyssa. These are…were Yondamons. And wherever we are in this warehouse we should be within one of the greatest empires in the galaxy. Yondamus territory. And if my calculations are correct, and they usually are, we’ve arrived in the twenty-sixth century.”

BILLY
“How can you tell?”

DOCTOR
“Well from the look of these Yondamons’ clothing…they seem to confirm it.”

BILLY
“You can tell the date by somebody’s clothing?”

NYSSA
“I wonder why they’re like this. There could be many factors to their deaths. Murder. War. Disease. It’s hard to tell without clues.”

BILLY
“Or maybe they were trying to protect this cargo from some enemy.”

DOCTOR
“What did you say, Billy?”

NYSSA
“We found a cargo-load of boxes containing some grain.”

BILLY
“And it seems to be a ton-full as well.”

DOCTOR
“Where is it?”

BILLY
“Well it’s just behind us. Right here.”

The Doctor goes over and has a look at the cargo-load of boxes containing the nitro-tritium grain.

DOCTOR
“Nitro-tritium grain? Well I didn’t expect them to have this in their crop-fields. Not in a microsecond.”

BILLY
(confused) “And what is…nitro-tritum grain?”

NYSSA
“I expect it’s some kind of composite of a nitrogen sample with tritium to form grain material.” (to Doctor) “What do you think Doctor?”

DOCTOR
“I’d have to say you’re right, Nyssa. Well…partly right.”

BILLY
“And what’s tritium?”

NYSSA
“A radioactive isotope of hydrogen…”

DOCTOR
“It’s a form of element containing one electron and two protons. They’re rare on Earth but are formed through the interaction of the atmosphere with cosmic rays.”

BILLY
(baffled) “Right. And what does this have to do with the grain?”

NYSSA
“The nitrogen is an abundant element which with carbon dioxide and water to form the oxygen we humanoids breathe.” (Pause; to Doctor) “But I don’t see how the tritium fits in with the grain.”

DOCTOR
“The isotope contains hydrogen remember, Nyssa? And hydrogen and oxygen make…”

NYSSA
(finishes) “…H-two-O.”

DOCTOR
“Precisely. And with the tritium being radioactive it can combine itself with nitrogen to form nitro-tritium. Theoretically speaking that is.”

BILLY
“Sorry. Chemistry wasn’t really one of my strong points.”

NYSSA
“And the Yondamons have managed to form the grain from that combustion of elements.”

DOCTOR
“It certainly seems so.”

BILLY
“But who would want to have this grain? And why would they keep it here in these containers?”

NYSSA
“And has now led to their appalling demise.”

Moment of silence, as the Doctor thinks.

SCENE #26 – EXT – YONDAMUS IV LANDING GROUND – 26TH CENTURY – MORNING
Outside, a desolated area near the warehouse is situated. These are the remnants of what used to be a landing ground for space and air vehicles coming and going to Yondamus IV. An eerie wind blows as bits of wrecked space-craft tumble about in the deserted land. Rotting trees are affected by the eerie wind. Just then, a teleport takes place as Elaine Thomas beams in with her away team of Colin Wilson; Gregory Cornwall; Gavin Frakes and a few security officers from the Moonraker onto the planet. The security officers include Donald and Douglas. The away team take in their surroundings, finding the environment they’re in uneasy.

GAVIN
“What a dump this is.”

GREGORY
“It can’t have crumbled up like this so quickly.”

Elaine Thomas takes out her pocket communicator and switches it on to speak into it.

ELAINE
(through communicator) “Away team to Moonraker. Commander Thomas speaking.”

There is a series of crackles is heard, before Captain Sulley answers.

CAPTAIN (V’O)
“Sulley here. Go ahead, Commander.”

ELAINE
(through communicator) “Teleport successful. Away team has arrived and accounted for with no injuries.”

CAPTAIN (V’O)
“Good.”

ELAINE
(through communicator) “Sir. The planet’s completely wrecked. The warehouse facility is still intact. But the planet’s vegetation has been scoured. The trees are rotting away like dust.”

SCENE #27 – INT – MAIN BRIDGE, MOONRAKER – – 26TH CENTURY – MORNING

ELAINE (V’O)
(continues) “…We’re not sure if any survivors can be accounted for at all, sir.”

On the bridge of the Moonraker, Captain Sulley receives Elaine’s report on the intercom. Togal stands beside him.

TOGAL
(shocked) “This is absurd. Yondamus Four is one of the finest outposts in the Yondamon Empire. How can it have been destroyed?”

CAPTAIN
“Believe me, Ambassador. We’re as baffled as you are.”

TOGAL
(angrily) “Then I suggest you do something about it, captain, and stop wasting time with futile reports.”

Elaine speaks again on the intercom.

ELAINE (V’O)
“Do you wish me and the away team to search the warehouse, sir?”

Kevin presses a button on his captain’s chair to answer Elaine on the intercom.

CAPTAIN
(through intercom) “Yes, Commander. But tread carefully. We don’t know who or what attacked the planet. So there still maybe some of the brutes about.”

ELAINE (V’O)
“I understand, sir. Thomas, out.”

Elaine ends her communication with Captain Sulley, just as he switches off the intercom button on his captain’s chair.

TOGAL
(angrily) “I expect you captain, to take full responsibility as to what has occurred on Yondamus Four. I expect you to apprehend those who caused pain and suffering to the innocent lives that protected your precious cargo for your Earth Empire!”

Kevin rises up from his chair.

CAPTAIN
“Believe me, Ambassador. We’re doing all we can.”

TOGAL
“And it’s just not good enough, do you hear!” (Pause) “The Elders are angry. We expect more of what the humans can provide. And my people will not wait for the delay to complete these negotiations.”

CAPTAIN
“I understand you’re angry, Ambassador. But I can’t tread across stars before considering the dangers to my crew. There’s more at stake to these negotiations. Now if you must excuse me. I must go to think in my ready room.”

Captain Sulley goes off to his ready room, leaving Togal on the bridge.

SCENE #28 – EXT – YONDAMUS IV LANDING GROUND – 26TH CENTURY – MORNING
Back on Yondamus IV, Commander Thomas gives orders to her away team before they split up.

ELAINE
“Commander Wilson and I will head off for the warehouse estate and see what we can find. We’ll all meet up there once we’ve finished.” (to Gregory) “Gregory. You take one of Gavin’s security men and scout for any damaged ships. See if you can find any survivors and salvage that may be of use.”

GREGORY
(gruffly) “Yes Elaine.” (to security officer) “You! Oliver, come with me.”

Gregory heads off with ‘Oliver’ joining him.

ELAINE
“Gavin. We’ll have one of your security guards to protect us. You take one for yourself and scout the desert lands for survivors.”

GAVIN
“Yes, but wouldn’t it be better…”

ELAINE
“Don’t argue, Gavin. Just do as I say.”

GAVIN
(reluctantly) “Very well.” (to Donald) “Donald, you join Commander Thomas and Commander Wilson.” (to Douglas) “Douglas, you come with me.”

Douglas joins Gavin, whilst Donald goes with Elaine and Colin.

ELAINE
“Right, let’s go.”

They head off for the warehouse estate.

COLIN
“This is all very well, Miss Thomas. But where does it lead us? The moment we find dead bodies in that warehouse the less we’re likely to gain.”

ELAINE
“We’ve still got the cargo to collect.”

COLIN
“The cargo? What’s the cargo of use to us now? This situation is far more important. The threat is growing stronger.”

ELAINE
“I realise that Colin…Commander Wilson. But in case you’d forgotten we’re under captain’s orders. Where he says we go, we go. And I don’t wish to turn my back on those orders.”

COLIN
“You’re just doing this to satisfy your reputation with him. Just because you can’t have him doesn’t mean you’re a better officer.”

Elaine stops walking, causing Colin to stop as well.

ELAINE
(snaps) “That’s enough, Wilson.” (Pause) “You’re correct, the threat is growing stronger. That is why I need you to be co-operative whenever I take charge. And in case you’ve forgotten I’m higher in authority than you. So you better do as I say before you get demoted.”

COLIN
“You seriously…”

ELAINE
(snaps) “And how dare you connect my personal feelings to the captain with my working relationship with him. People have died here, and all you can do is to challenge my authority and judgement.”

Moment of silence.

ELAINE
(calms down) “Now let’s go to the warehouse and see what we can find? Okay?”

No response at first.

ELAINE
“Okay, Mr. Wilson?”

COLIN
“Yes, Elaine. I’m sorry.” (Pause) “I’ve been so used to this command position that I forgot how good friends we used to be. How could I misjudge you?”

ELAINE
(gradually) “Believe me, Colin. When I need you, I really need you. Especially now.”

Moment of silence.

ELAINE
“Come on. Let’s go and find that warehouse, hey.”

Elaine and Colin go forward, with security officer Donald keeping up their rear.

SCENE #29 – EXT – MICROS WAREHOUSE ESTATE – 26TH CENTURY – MORNING
As they turn the corner, Elaine; Colin and security officer Donald arrive at the entrance to the warehouse estate. They stop at a huge gate. Elaine gasps in horror at the corpses lying within the facility grounds.

ELAINE
(horrified) “Horrible. That horrible orange blood oozing out of them.”

COLIN
“The tragedies of war.”

ELAINE
“Yes.” (to Donald) “Donald, see if you can get this main gate open.”

Donald complies, as he gains access to a small terminal up on the gate. Once open, he uses a standard Earth Empire scanner to decipher the codes inside the terminal to open the gate.

ELAINE
“The nitro-tritium grain should be in one of these warehouses. Which one is it?”

COLIN
“Warehouse Five, Miss Thomas. But what will we find in there?”

Percy begins to unlock the gate.

SCENE #30 – INT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – MORNING
Back inside the warehouse, the Doctor; Nyssa and Billy lay burial clothes of sorts over the dead Yondamons on the floor. They finishing placing a cloth on the last corpse.

DOCTOR
“There. That should do it. At least they’ll be protected under those cloths we found.”

BILLY
“You don’t think we should have moved them?”

DOCTOR
“Yondamon physiognomy can be fragile.”

NYSSA
“And we don’t know what the cause of death was. And if someone comes in and we’re found moving them, we certainly don’t want to be accused of murder.”

DOCTOR
(abjectly) “This way we’d save a lot of bother of being locked up.”

BILLY
“Fair point.”

NYSSA
“Where to now, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
(thinks) “Um…this way…no…that way…”

The Doctor goes off in one direction with Nyssa and Billy following him. Until…

DOCTOR
“No, no. As we were. This way!”

The Doctor goes off in the opposite direction. Nyssa and Billy follow after him, slightly annoyed. The mood of the warehouse is grim and uneasy, as they go on. Iron girders are clank and computer monitors flicker as they go.

BILLY
“So who are these Yondamon chaps, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
“Oh like I said, Billy. Yondamus is one of the great empires in the galaxy compared with the empires of Earth and Draconia. They’re like eagle-men with feather-like hands that live in lush forests.”

NYSSA
(starchy) “And we happen to be on one of their war outposts.”

DOCTOR
“Oh no. Yondamons don’t have battlegrounds. They have planets filled with trees and flourishing vegetation.”

NYSSA
“Doctor, why would the TARDIS draw us here with those rift emissions we picked up?”

DOCTOR
“Not sure. Obviously this place within the Yondamon empire seems to have been affected by rift activity. But what could be causing it, I don’t know.” (Pause) “Ah, there’s the door! Let’s go and have a look outside.”

The Doctor; Nyssa and Billy soon come to the door to go outside.

SCENE #31 – EXT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – MORNING
Outside, the Doctor; Nyssa and Billy find themselves in the desolate area before them. There’s a faint breeze of wind in the air. They shut the door behind them once they’re outside.

BILLY
“Lush forests?”

NYSSA
“Flourishing vegetation?”

DOCTOR
(troubled) “This is certainly not the Yondamus Empire I remember. All the trees have been torn down and scattered.”

NYSSA
“The vegetation looks as if it’s been scared away. The ground here’s turned into ashes.”

DOCTOR
“A petrified world!”

BILLY
“Do they have forests on Traken, Nyssa?”

NYSSA
(sadly) “Yes. Yes they did.”

BILLY
“Well…I’d rather go to Traken than be here in this place” (Pause) “Is this the Yondamon home planet, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
“Oh Yondamus have many planets in their space. It’s hard to tell whether this is the home planet or Yondamus Two; Three or Four. But at the moment, this place is remarkably not Yondamon. Feels unimaginably and incorrectly Yondamon!”

NYSSA
“Maybe we’re not where you say we are.”

BILLY
“Yes. Maybe this isn’t Yondamus. Perhaps this is a different planet as you claim.”

DOCTOR
“Then how do you explain the Yondamons we found dead in the warehouse.”

BILLY
“Fair point.”

NYSSA
(disturbed; horrified) “Doctor? There are more dead bodies out here. They’ve been utterly slaughtered. Like they were killed in the midst of a war.”

DOCTOR
(concerned) “Yes. It does seem to be a war zone.”

BILLY
“What do we do now?”

DOCTOR
“Well I suggest we go round, explore and see if we can find someone.”

NYSSA
“There might not be anybody to find, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
“Well forgive me for being optimistic, but I’d rather not give up and try. There may well be someone…”

As the TARDIS trio step forward, they are stopped in their tracks with a weapon training on them.

COLIN
“Right! Stay where you are! Do not move!”

DOCTOR
“Uh, we’re not moving. I can see you’re carrying a powerful and dangerous weapon. Please put it down.”

COLIN
“Don’t move, I say!”

NYSSA
“They’re human. Doctor, they’re human!”

COLIN
(fiercely) “Shut up!”

BILLY
(quietly) “What are those…funny guns they’re carrying?”

DOCTOR
(quietly) “Careful, Billy. They’re phaser rifles. Very deadly when used at full power.”

COLIN
(fiercely) “I said shut up!”

DOCTOR
“Have we done something wrong?”

ELAINE
(interjects) “It’s alright, Wilson. I’ll handle this.”

Elaine steps forward, whilst Colin and Donald keep watch on the Doctor; Nyssa and Billy.

ELAINE
“Who are you? What are you three doing here?”

DOCTOR
(cheerfully) “Ah hello. I’m the Doctor. And these are my friends Nyssa and Billy.”

BILLY
“Yes hello.”

NYSSA
“Hello.”

DOCTOR
(laughs) “As to why we’re here, I really must admit I’m not quite sure.”

COLIN
(angrily) “What have you done here?! Why did you destroy this planet?”

NYSSA
(protests) “You can’t blame us for this!”

BILLY
(protests) “We haven’t done anything.”

DOCTOR
“Indeed not. We’ve only just arrived!”

ELAINE
“You’re not Yondamon!”

NYSSA
“No we’re not.”

ELAINE
“Then how come you happen to be on Yondamus Four?”

DOCTOR
(intrigued) “Yondamus Four, is it? Well that’s very interesting! I’ve come to Yondamus Four many times, but I’ve never seen it in this state!”

COLIN
(angrily) “This is a waste of time!” (to Elaine) “Don’t you see, Commander? These people must have caused this attack. They’re behind it all!

NYSSA
(protests) “No! You’ve got it all wrong! You’re accusing us without reason!”

COLIN
(to Elaine) “They must be responsible! They caused the deaths!” (to Donald) “Prepare to open fire, Donald!”

ELAINE
“Wait! We don’t know what’s been going on here? So we mustn’t jump to conclusions!”

COLIN
“But don’t you see…?”

ELAINE
“Quiet, Mr. Wilson. I’m trying to think!” (Pause; to Doctor) “How did you three get here?”

DOCTOR
“We have a ship of our own!”

NYSSA
“Let us show you where it is!”

ELAINE
“Where is it?”

NYSSA
“In the warehouse.”

BILLY
“It’s not far really. We haven’t long since left it.”

Elaine thinks before she makes a decision.

ELAINE
“Very well.” (to Donald) “Donald? Keep watch on them.”

DONALD
“Yes, mam.”

ELAINE
(to Doctor) “You…”

DOCTOR
“Doctor.”

ELAINE
“Doctor. You and your friends will lead the way.”

DOCTOR
“Thank you.”

COLIN
(protests) “You’re not seriously going to allow them to take us to their ship of theirs, are you?”

ELAINE
“And why not?”

Very soon, the Doctor; Nyssa and Billy lead the way back into the warehouse with Elaine; Colin and Donald behind them.

SCENE #33 – INT – MAIN BRIDGE, DWAXI FLAGSHIP – 26TH CENTURY – MORNING
Meanwhile on the Dwaxi flagship, Commander Targah and Trooper Gabrog are on the bridge. There are rough mutters from some of the Dwaxi troopers who attend to their work.

TARGAH
(shouts) “Pilot! How far is Yondamus IV?”

The Dwaxi pilot checks his pilot’s cockpit computer.

DWAXI PILOT
“Three miles!”

TARGAH
(fiercely) “Three miles, sir!”

Targah advances on the Dwaxi pilot and smacks him on the head brutally. The Dwaxi pilot reacts savagely; snarling viciously.

TARGAH
“Remember to show respect to your commander.”

The Dwaxi pilot keeps snarling viciously, as Targah returns to his command chair.

TARGAH
“What about the other ships! Are they ready in position?”

DWAXI PILOT
“Yes, sir! Reports have come in, sir! They are ready in their strategic positions, sir!”

TARGAH
(taunts) “That sounds well!”

Gabrog steps forward to address Targah.

GABROG
“Report, commander.”

Targah slams his fist angrily on his command chair.

TARGAH
(angrily) “What is it, Gabrog?”

GABROG
“The Away Team as predicted beamed down onto the planet! Six members at least!”

TARGAH
“Very well. Send in our scout troops! They will give them battle ground!”

GABROG
“The Blockade is with that scout ship now! He’ll certainly have a lot of fun!”

TARGAH
“Oh yes! He’ll knock their brains out as I expect him to!”

GABROG
“He’ll enjoy the blood of his foes!”

Moment of silence.

TARGAH
(impatiently) “Well, anything else?”

GABROG
“The starship has been detected! It’s in orbit around Yondamus Four!”

Targah angrily slams his fist on his command chair again.

TARGAH
(cruelly) “Then that pitiful captain will have his eye balls gouged!” (to Gabrog) “Send in the flagship and we will show what we have for the plunge!”

GABROG
“Yes, Commander.”

Gabrog leaves, whilst Targah chuckles menacingly.

TARGAH
“And then we shall all be reborn!”

SCENE #34 – INT – MAIN BRIDGE, MOONRAKER – 26TH CENTURY – MORNING
Meanwhile on the Moonraker, Captain Sulley receives a report from Commander Thomas on the intercom.

ELAINE (V’O)
“We’ve just gone into the warehouse, sir. Before we went in we encountered three people. A man, a boy and a girl.”

CAPTAIN
(through intercom) “Three people? How did they get there?”

ELAINE (V’O)
“They said they travelled in some ship that arrived in the warehouse.”

CAPTAIN
(through intercom) “Have you seen it?”

ELAINE (V’O)
“Not yet, Captain. We’re going to it now.”

Moment of silence.

CAPTAIN
(through intercom) “Have you seen their identification?”

ELAINE (V’O)
“They don’t have identity discs. They said their names were the Doctor; Nyssa and Billy.”

CAPTAIN
(through intercom) “I see.” (Pause) “Have Mr. Cornwall and Mr. Frakes reported yet?”

ELAINE (V’O)
“Not yet, sir. They’re still scouting the areas I ordered them to.”

CAPTAIN
(through intercom) “Well call me back when you’re ready to return. And beam up those three strangers with you.”

ELAINE (V’O)
“Understood sir. Thomas, out.”

Elaine ends her communication with Captain Sulley, just as he switches off the intercom button on his captain’s chair. A female Ensign pilots the helm before she addresses the Captain.

ENSIGN
(to Captain) “Captain?” (Pause) “Scanners are picking up a ship that’s just come into orbit around Yondamus Four. It’s of unknown origin. And it’s a ship the scanners can’t identify from the database computer.”

CAPTAIN
“Is it in visual range?”

ENSIGN
“Yes, sir. Entering visual range now.”

CAPTAIN
“On screen.”

The Ensign complies and activates the view-screen. The Captain sees the Dwaxi flagship approaching Yondamus IV. The bridge crew members are astonished and fascinated by the sight they see as well as Captain Sulley.

CAPTAIN
“What…what kind of ship is that?”

ENSIGN
“I don’t know, sir. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before.” (Pause) “It looks like a half vulture…and a half spider.” (shivers) “It gives me the shudders looking at it.”

CAPTAIN
(thinks) “What’s the weapons status?”

ENSIGN
“They seem to have two hundred weapon bays containing photon and heat seeking missiles. Weapon bays located in front; rear and both left and right sides. They have forward and rear shields all over. It’s heavily armed, sir.”

CAPTAIN
“Any signs of life?”

The Ensign checks the scanners at her workstation.

ENSIGN
(gradually) “There are about five thousand life forms aboard that ship. And they’re all human!”

Moment of silence, as Captain Sulley takes in this shocking discovery.

CAPTAIN
“Open hailing frequencies.”

The Ensign presses a button at her workstation.

ENSIGN
“They’re open, sir.”

CAPTAIN
(out loud) “This is Captain Kevin Sulley of the Earth ship Moonraker. Identify yourselves.”

Moment of silence. The Captain checks with the Ensign.

ENSIGN
“No response, sir.”

CAPTAIN
(out loud) “This is Captain Sulley of the Moonraker. I repeat you’re in Yondamus territory. Identify yourselves.”

Still no response.

ENSIGN
“Why won’t they answer, sir?”

CAPTAIN
(thinks) “I don’t know. They may have communication problems.” (Pause) “Send out a repeated greeting on all channels…”

Just then, an alarm echoes.

ENSIGN
“Captain, sir? That ship! It’s changing course. It’s heading straight for us, sir!”

Captain Sulley and the bridge crew become concerned, as they see the Dwaxi flagship approaching them.

SCENE #35 – INT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – MORNING

COLIN
(unconvinced) “This is your ship?”

DOCTOR
“Why? Don’t you like it?”

Elaine; Colin and Donald see what the TARDIS looks like, as the Doctor; Nyssa and Billy show it to them.

COLIN
(annoyed) “This is pathetic! Not only are they murderers and liars! They’re stupid!” (to TARDIS trio) “Do you think you can really fool us?”

NYSSA
“It is our ship. The TARDIS.”

ELAINE
“Tardis? I’ve never heard of a ship of that name in the Earth Empire.”

DOCTOR
“It’s not a ship of the Earth Empire, Miss…?”

ELAINE
“Thomas. Commander Elaine Thomas.”

The Doctor shakes hands with Elaine.

DOCTOR
(cheerfully) “Ah. Pleasure to meet you Commander Elaine Thomas.” (indicating TARDIS) “This TARDIS is my own ship. Well…sort of. I borrowed it from the planet Gallifrey!”

COLIN
“Do you really think you can hide up your guilt with child’s play?”

DOCTOR
“You really do have a closed mind, Mr…”

COLIN
(to Elaine) “We should take them back to the Moonraker. They have to be interrogated if they are spies.”

BILLY
(protests) “We’re not spies!”

ELAINE
“Agreed. We’ll take this box as well.”

COLIN
“The box? Why bother with the box?”

ELAINE
“It may contain some value.”

DOCTOR
(politely; objects) “Ah…I can assure you won’t find anything…”

ELAINE
“What have you done with the crew members working in this warehouse?”

DOCTOR
(confused) “Crew members?”

COLIN
“The Yondamons that you killed here!”

NYSSA
“We didn’t kill anyone! We covered up the corpses in cloth. As you can see! Look!”

Elaine; Colin and Donald see the covered-up corpses on the ground.

ELAINE
“Donald? Check them.”

Donald reluctantly complies, as he kneels to examine the bodies covered in cloth. Eventually…

DONALD
“They are Yondamon, mam. And they’re bleeding very heavily.”

ELAINE
(to Doctor) “Why did you cover the bodies up with cloth?”

DOCTOR
“An act of kindness. We found the bodies when we arrived. We didn’t want to see them rotting away so we found some cloth that was in one of the containers in this warehouse.”

NYSSA
“It was horrible seeing them in that state. We just couldn’t leave them.”

[COLIN
“Or maybe you were covering up your own finger marks in the hope of proving your innocence.”

DOCTOR
“That’s not true!”

COLIN
“How do we know you didn’t kill these Yondamons?”

DOCTOR
“You don’t. You just have to trust us!”

COLIN
“Trust you?!”]

As the Doctor argueS with Colin, a teleport beam echoes faintly in the distance. Billy is the only one who hears this sound.

BILLY
(quietly) “Nyssa, did you hear that?”

NYSSA
“Hear what, Billy?”

BILLY
(quietly) “That sound. I heard something just now.” (Pause) “It sounded like…buzzing.”

NYSSA
“Buzzing?”

But before Billy can explain…

DONALD
(interrupts; cries) “Commander? I hear someone coming!”

Everyone stops talking, as running footsteps approach.

DONALD
“Sounds like more than one person.”

COLIN
(to Donald) “Prepare to fire, crewman!”

ELAINE
“No, wait!”

COLIN
(impatiently) “Why delay now?”

A voice calls out to them from the shadows.

GREGORY
(calls) “Miss Thomas; Mr. Wilson? Where are you?”

ELAINE
(relieved) “Mr. Cornwall. Over here!”

Everyone sees Gregory; Gavin and security officer Douglas enter the warehouse, exhausted. They reunite with their colleagues, out of breath.

COLIN
(anxiously) “What’s happened to you?”

GAVIN
(exasperated) “We saw it! We saw the monster!”

ELAINE
“Monster? What monster?”

GREGORY
“The Globtol Ferroca! Apparently those things managed to survive!”

DOCTOR
“Globtol Ferroca? Ah now those are ferocious!”

GAVIN
“Who’s this?”

ELAINE
(dismissively) “Never mind about him.” (to Gregory) “Gregory, what happened to that security officer you had. I can see Gavin’s got Toby, but you haven’t got yours.”

GREGORY
“Oliver? Oh he’s been eaten!”

ELAINE
“What a shame.”

Whilst they talk, Nyssa speaks quietly to the Doctor.

NYSSA
(quietly) “Doctor? What is a Globtol Ferroca?”

DOCTOR
(quietly) “Big things. Rather like gorillas except with sharp fangs.”

NYSSA
(quietly) “Are they really hostile?”

DOCTOR
(quietly) “Well I did get myself into an arena with one when I was on Yondamus Prime a number of regenerations back. I can still remember the experience. He even ate my frock coat.”

COLIN
(interrupts) “Shut up, you two.” (to Gregory) “Those monsters aren’t coming to us are they?”

GREGORY
“Well last time I saw them, they were.”

COLIN
(angrily) “You idiot! What did you have to bring them here for?”

ELAINE
“Stop arguing, you two. We need to get back to the Moonraker. We’ll take these three back too…” (realises) “…Wait a minute! There are only two of you!”

They look to see that Billy has gone.

NYSSA
(concerned) “Doctor? Billy’s gone.”

DOCTOR
“What?”

NYSSA
(calls) “Billy?” (Pause) “Billy?!”

No response.

DOCTOR
“Where’s he gone now?”

COLIN
(to Elaine) “See, Commander. This confirms it!”

ELAINE
“Confirms what?”

COLIN
“That these are enemy spies.”

NYSSA
“He said something about…hearing a kind of buzzing.”

DOCTOR
“Buzzing?”

NYSSA
“I’m going to go and find him. You wait here, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
(anxiously) “No! Wait, Nyssa come back!”

But Nyssa already gone off to find Billy.

COLIN
(agitated; to Donald; Douglas) “Donald; Douglas! Get after that girl! Go on!”

Donald and Douglas chase after Nyssa down the dark corridor.

ELAINE
“We’ll follow after them!”

COLIN
“Are you going to report this to the Captain?”

ELAINE
“That’s exactly what I intend to do.” (to Gregory; Gavin) “Gregory; Gavin! You come with us!”

COLIN
“What about Blondie here?”

ELAINE
“He’ll come with us too!”

DOCTOR
(politely) “Err…there’s really no need…”

ELAINE
(to Gavin) “Gavin! Keep watch on him! If he does anything, shoot!”

GAVIN
“Understood!”

Elaine and Colin lead the way with Gregory behind them. Gavin escorts the Doctor with them.

DOCTOR
(mutters) “Charming.”

SCENE #36 – INT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – MORNING
Meanwhile, Billy walks down a dark corridor within the warehouse. He’s walked for some time and treads carefully as he goes.

BILLY
(calls) “Hello? Is anybody about?”

Moment of silence. Billy receives no  response.

BILLY
(calls) “It’s alright. I’m not here to hurt anyone. I just…wanted to know if there was anyone down here.”

Still no response. Iron girders clank uneasily and monitor screen flicker as Billy walks on.

BILLY
“Hmm. Perhaps it’s my imagination.”

Billy turns to go back. He then bumps into Nyssa, who comes up behind him. Both are startled.

BILLY
(startled) “Nyssa!”

NYSSA
(startled) “You scared me! What are you doing down here?”

BILLY
“I just wanted to know what that noise was. I thought I might find something down here. But obviously not.”

NYSSA
“Well you might have told us. I was worried…”

There is then a sound of movement nearby.

BILLY
(interrupts) “Ssh!”

NYSSA
(gradually; whispers; concerned) “What is it?”

BILLY
(whispers) “I thought I heard something.”

Moment of silence.

NYSSA
(whispers) “I didn’t hear anything.”

BILLY
(whispers) “Just a minute.”

Moment of silence. Just then, loud stomping footprints run down the corridor.

BILLY
“Hear that?”

NYSSA
“Yes. Someone’s running towards us!”

They then see a heavily armoured man come out from the shadows and he growls furiously.

BILLY
(cries) “Nyssa, get down!”

Billy pushes Nyssa out of the way, just as he is thrust upon by the terrible ruffian. Billy is pushed back against one of the crates by his attacker. His head is slammed against one of the boxes. Billy cries out in pain.

NYSSA
(cries) “Billy!”

Billy gets beaten up by a ultra-violent Dwaxi trooper called the Blockade. He is fierce and cruel, as he bashes Billy from side to side with his iron fists. Billy cries in agony, receiving the blows from the Blockade.

BILLY
(cries; in pain) “Stop it! Calm down!”

But the Blockade keeps on fiercely bashing Billy from side to side. Billy suffers terribly.

BILLY
(shouts; in pain) “Stop it! What is it you want?”

Billy gets thrown aside by the Blockade and crashes into another set of boxes, which crumble and break when he falls. The Blockade leaps onto Billy, roaring terribly as hes’ about to beat him up again. Nyssa runs up behind the Blockade, attempting to prevent him beating up Billy again.

NYSSA
(angrily) “Stop it! Leave him alone!”

Unhesitatingly, the Blockade smacks Nyssa and pushes her aside. Nyssa lands on the floor, in pain. Billy sees this and unsteadily gets up to challenge the Blockade.

BILLY
(agitated) “Hey! No-one does that to my friend!”

Billy makes a punch at the Blockade. But Billy’s punch is feeble to the Blockade. The Blockade smacks Billy back in the face. This sends Billy flying off his feet as he lands in the crates. The Blockade leaps on Billy again, smacking his fist onto his chest.

BLOCKADE
(roars; savagely) “ARE YOU WITH THE CREW OF MOONRAKER REGISTRATION TWO-ONE-SIX-THREE-FOUR-SEVEN?!”

BILLY
(terrified; stammers) “I don’t know what you are talking…”

BLOCKADE
(roars; savagely) “ARE YOU WITH THE CREW MOONRAKER REGISTRATION TWO-ONE-SIX-THREE-FOUR-SEVEN?!”

BILLY
(terrified, stammers) “No, I’m not. They’re back there! I can show them to you…”

BLOCKADE
(roars; savagely) “YOU WILL CONFESS THAT YOU ARE WITH THE ENEMY SHIP WE TRACKED AND LOCATED IN UNIVERSE TWO-ONE-FIVE!”

BILLY
(pleads) “Please, please! Just leave me alone! Let me and my friend go! She’s dear to me…”

BLOCKADE
(shrieks; savagely) “CONFESS! CONFESS!”

The Blockade slams his fist onto Billy. Billy cries out in pain, as he scrambles to make an escape. But he gets held in the rough grasp of the Blockade. Billy then gets saved as fire shots hit the Blockade from the back. The Blockade shrieks out in terrible rage, as he jumps off Billy and turns to face the security officers Donald and Douglas who fire on him. Soon Elaine; Colin; Gregory; Gavin and the Doctor turn up.

DONALD
“Surrender now!”

DOUGLAS
“Or we’ll be forced to kill you!”

The Blockade laughs mockingly and defiantly at Donald and Douglas as they fire on him. The Blockade then punches his chest to activate his inbuilt communicator.

BLOCKADE
(through communicator; cries) “BOYS! GET DOWN HERE NOW!”

At that moment, a teleport occurs as Dwaxi troopers beam in. They immediately open fire at Donald and Douglas with their deadly weapons. One by one, Donald and Douglas are shot down dead by the Dwaxi troopers.

GAVIN
(shocked) “My two officers! They’ve been shot down!”

COLIN
“Get down, man! Get down!”

Everybody ducks down behind some crates in the warehouse, as the Dwaxi troopers continue to fire their weapons. Elaine hides behind a box, with Colin and the Doctor in tow.

ELAINE
“What are they?”

COLIN
(to Doctor) “Are these your friends?”

DOCTOR
“No! They’ll kill me as much as they’ll kill you, I expect.”

Meanwhile Billy gets behind the crates, still bruised and battered, to join the Doctor and the others. He groans, feeling the pain of his attack by the Blockade.

DOCTOR
(concerned) “Billy? Are you alright?”

BILLY
(catches breath; in pain) “I’m fine, I’m fine.”

DOCTOR
“You’ve been injured. Let me look at you!”

BILLY
(anxiously) “Never mind about me! What about Nyssa? She’s in the middle of that battlefield!”

They look to see Nyssa lying unconscious on the floor after being thrown off by the Blockade.

DOCTOR
(reassuringly) “Don’t worry, Billy. We’ll rescue her!”

As the fighting goes on, the phaser rifles’ firepower of the Moonraker Away Team is no match for the heavy firepower of the Dwaxi troopers.

GREGORY
“They’re no good! Our weapons are no good!”

The Dwaxi troopers keep firing their weapons. The Blockade roars with laughter as he mocks the Moonraker Away Team.

BLOCKADE
(roars; laughs) “PATHETIC, HUMAN SCUM!” (child-like singing) “YOU WEAPONS CAN’T HURT US! CAN’T HURT US!”

The battle continues. Meanwhile, Elaine confers with Colin.

ELAINE
“Colin. We must retreat.”

COLIN
(protests) “We must keep on fighting!”

ELAINE
“I will not have any more deaths like Donald and Douglas. We return to the Moonraker now!”

Moment of silence.

COLIN
(grudgingly) “Very well. What about the strangers?”

ELAINE
“They’re coming with us! We’ll have the blue box transported to cargo boy one.”

As the battle continues, Colin goes over to fetch the Doctor and Billy.

COLIN
“Right, you two! You’re coming back to our ship!”

Wilson drags the Doctor and Billy with him.

BILLY
(protests) “No, wait! We must rescue Nyssa! She’s still out there!”

COLIN
“You will come back with us!”

DOCTOR
“We won’t leave our friend!”

COLIN
(insistently) “You will do as you’re told!” (to Gregory; Gavin) “Mr. Cornwall; Mr. Frakes! We’re going back!”

GREGORY
“Very good, sir.”

GAVIN
“Right you are.”

COLIN
(to Elaine) “Ready, Commander.”

BILLY
(protests; shouts) “But we can’t leave Nyssa!”

But Elaine takes out her pocket communicator and speaks into it. Captain Sulley’s voice speaks at the other end.

ELAINE
(through communicator) “Away team to Moonraker?”

CAPTAIN (V’O)
“Go ahead, Commander.”

ELAINE
“Permission to return. Six to beam back and one blue object to be teleported to cargo bay one”

DOCTOR
“Uh I don’t think…”

CAPTAIN (V’O)
“Permission granted. Stand by.”

BILLY
(protests) “No!”

Despite the Doctor and Billy’s protests, they and the Moonraker Away Team beam out of the warehouse. Nyssa is left unconscious at the uncertain mercy of the Dwaxi.
