5. The Threat

Roll original 1982 Peter Davison opening credits

REPRISE
The squadron of Dalek ships approach the Dwaxi fleet and the Moonraker, before they grind to a halt. The Daleks’ tannoy is switched on. The voice of the Daleks echoes out into space. They grate their announcement to both the Dwaxi fleet and the Moonraker.

DALEKS (V’O)
“ATTENTION! ATTENTION! WE ARE THE DALEKS! YOU WILL SURRENDER! YOU WILL OBEY AND SURRENDER TO US! OBEY! OBEY!…OR YOU WILL BE EX…”

But the Daleks are rudely interrupted, as the Dwaxi fire furiously on their ships. The Daleks’ screams of pain and agony echo out into space from their tannoy. Eventually, the squadron of Dalek ships blow up and explode into smithereens. Fragments of the Daleks ships scatter across into space. The Daleks have been destroyed by the Dwaxi.

(CONTINUES INTO:)

SCENE #48 – INT – MAIN BRIDGE, MOONRAKER – 26TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
The Doctor is surprised and appalled from witnessing this demonstration of firepower by the Dwaxi on the Daleks.

DOCTOR
(surprised; appalled) “I don’t believe it! They’ve destroyed the Daleks!”

BILLY
“They didn’t stand a chance.”

DOCTOR
“No. No they didn’t. The Dwaxi were quick and determined to blow up Daleks like disregarded toys. It’s shocking!”

With the Doctor is astonished, the Moonraker bridge crew mutter and gasp in shock after what they’ve just seen. A loud beep echoes from Gavin’s workstation.

GAVIN
“Captain? We’re being hailed by the main Dwaxi ship.”

CAPTAIN
(disturbed) “Open a channel.”

Gavin obeys, as he establishes a communications link. Dwaxi Commander Targah appears on the view-screen.

TARGAH (V’O)
(menacingly) “Did you see that, Captain? Did you see the power beyond your imagination! YOU CAN’T STOP US!”

Moment of silence.

CAPTAIN
(calmly) “If this is your way of scaring us to death Commander Targah, you’ve certainly succeeded!”

TARGAH (V’O)
“We shall have the pleasure of tearing your garbage dump apart!”

CAPTAIN
(agitated) “I must insist that you stop these attacks!”

TARGAH (V’O)
(loudly) “Oh you’re so dull and boring! Shut up and listen to me!” (Pause) “We have control of Yondamus Four. We’ve wiped every living thing off that pile of rubble! And we are proud of it!”

TOGAL
(angrily) “That was one of the homes of my people, you vicious fiend! My people…”

TARGAH (V’O)
(shouts; angrily) “SHUT UP! AND LISTEN TO ME!” (Pause) “Yondamus Four is our base of operations now!” (to Captain) “So, Captain. You’d better run away and leave us alone!”

Moment of silence.

COLIN
“Captain! We must fight!”

ELAINE
“Kevin, what shall we do?”

A moment of tension ensues, as the Captain uneasily tries to make a decision.

TARGAH (V’O)
(taunts) “Go on, Captain! Run! Run like the wind!”

CAPTAIN
(sighs; annoyed) “We retreat!” (to Ensign) “Ensign? Reverse course.”

COLIN
“But, sir?”

CAPTAIN
(sharply) “Do it, Ensign.”

ENSIGN
(quietly) “Yes, sir.”

The Ensign presses buttons at the piloting controls, whilst Targah mocks and taunts on the view-screen.

TARGAH (V’O)
(taunts) “Run! Run, captain! Run like the wind! Go on! RUN! RUN! RUN!!!”

CAPTAIN
(bitterly) “Mr. Frakes! Turn that channel off!”

Gavin complies, as he turns off the communications link as Targah continues taunting.

SCENE #49 – EXT – YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
In outer space, the Moonraker reverses course as it turns around away from Yondamus IV. The starship heads off away from Yondamus IV, deeper into Yondamus space. Meanwhile, the Dwaxi fleet moves into closer orbit of Yondamus IV. The Dwaxi flagship makes to enter the planet’s atmosphere.

SCENE #50 – INT – MAIN BRIDGE, MOONRAKER – 26TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
On the bridge of the Moonraker, Captain Sulley is far from happy. He rises up from his captain’s chair to address the crew.

CAPTAIN
(to Colin; Gavin) “Mr. Wilson; Mr. Frakes? I assume you were able to gather data on the Dwaxi fleet.”

COLIN
“Yes, sir. Scientific analysis of the Dwaxi fleet’s energy signatures and weapons array are recorded, including the details of their shield enhancers.”

Gavin checks his workstation, by pressing buttons on it.

GAVIN
(gradually) “Confirmed. Dwaxi records are being updated as we speak.”

CAPTAIN
(irritated) “I want to know how that fleet was able to destroy a squadron of Dalek ships in an instant. I want reports of all analysis of Dwaxi records!”

ELAINE
“I just can’t believe it! The Daleks blown up so savagely and without warning.”

CAPTAIN
“Well it happened, Commander! And I want to know why. So all crew members get to it!”

ELAINE
“Do you wish for the Dalek debris to be transported to the cargo bay?”

CAPTAIN
“We’ve got enough debris as it is. The demonstration we saw confirms what’s happened.”

Meanwhile, the Doctor approaches to address the Captain. Billy joins him.

DOCTOR
“I take it Captain, that you and your people are at war with the Daleks?”

CAPTAIN
“Everyone on Earth knows that!”

DOCTOR
“Well then I believe that we can work together on solving this issue. I’ve had lots of experience with the Daleks so…”

CAPTAIN
(bitterly) “Since my crew has found you and your friend Doctor, you have caused more trouble as it is. And I’m beginning to wonder whether or not you’re behind it all!”

BILLY
“But that’s not true! We’ve been telling you we’re innocent here!”

CAPTAIN
(to Gavin) “Mr. Frakes!”

GAVIN
“Yes sir.”

CAPTAIN
“Take these two to the brig!”

ELAINE
(protests) “Captain…”

CAPTAIN
“That is an order!”

Gavin goes to the Doctor and Billy to take them off the bridge.

DOCTOR
“Captain, I appreciate you’re agitated about all this. But there’s no need to accuse me and my friend. We’re here to help…”

CAPTAIN
(bitterly) “Get them off my bridge, Frakes.”

GAVIN
“Aye, sir.”

But before Gavin takes them, Billy cries out loud in pain.

CAPTAIN
(frustrated) “What’s the matter now?”

BILLY
(in pain) “I’m in pain. I’m still injured from that Dwaxi mongrel who attacked me!”

DOCTOR
(protests) “Captain, surely you can see my friend needs medical attention!”

ELAINE
“I agree. Captain, the boy must be taken to sick bay.”

CAPTAIN
“Well his friend’s a doctor. Let him help him.”

DOCTOR
“Not that sort of doctor!”

ELAINE
“Kevin, please!”

Captain Sulley takes a moment to think, though thoroughly annoyed.

CAPTAIN
“Oh, very well. Take them to sick bay, Mr. Frakes. See that the boy gets medical attention.”

GAVIN
“Yes, sir.”

DOCTOR
“Thank you.”

CAPTAIN
“Then put them in the brig!”

DOCTOR
“Oh! That’s very unkind of you.”

Gavin escorts the Doctor and Billy away. They head into the turbo-lift and leave the bridge. The turbo-lift doors slide open and close once they’re gone. Captain Sulley moves back to sit in the captain’s chair. Elaine steps forward to address the Captain.

ELAINE
(wearingly; to Captain) “With due respect, Captain…”

Elaine is then interrupted, as Togal approaches to address the Captain.

TOGAL
“Captain Kevin Sulley! Now that we’ve left Yondamus Four, may I assume you will take us to Yondamus Prime, where we shall deal with the negotiations…?”

CAPTAIN
(abruptly) “Ambassador Togal, may I make myself quite clear! This ship is not going to Yondamus Prime, unless I decide otherwise!”

TOGAL
“I do not understand…”

CAPTAIN
(abruptly) “Two of my crew are still missing, Ambassador! A new type of alien fleet is found in your space! And some Daleks have been destroyed. And if I know the Daleks well enough they’ll keep coming with new squadrons and fleets!”

Captain Sulley rises up from the captain’s chair to address Ambassador frontally.

CAPTAIN
“We must deal with these new Dwaxi invaders to your space as well as the Daleks if you want this trade transaction to be successful!” (to Elaine) “You have the bridge, commander!”

Captain Sulley leaves the bridge to go into his ready room. The doors slide open and close as the Captain goes into his ready room. Elaine is left bewildered whilst Togal is appalled.

TOGAL
(appalled) “Well…I was only asking!”

SCENE #51 – INT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
On Yondamus IV, Nyssa is still in the prison cell with Nina and Jack. They have their meals given to them by the Dwaxi guards. Nina gives out the meals on small plate each to Nyssa and Jack as well as for herself.

NINA
“Here you are, Nyssa. Here’s your meal.”

NYSSA
“Thank you, Nina.”

JACK
“I must say I’m not sure about the Dwaxi’s style of cuisine. This stuff’s gloop. Like when Oliver Twist had his meal in the workhouse.”

NYSSA
“I wasn’t impressed with the way they handled our meals, Jack. They just dumped them onto the floor once they shut down the force-field and said words…ghastly words that I can’t repeat.”

NINA
“Well at least I’ve been able to gather up what was left. Sorry if what both of you are having is not enough…”

NYSSA
“No Nina, this food’s enough for me. Mind you, I thought they weren’t going to feed us at all. That they were going to starve us.”

Jack munches at his food.

JACK
“Perhaps they were. Before they decide a better use for us.”

Just then, cruel laughter echoes nearby from a distance.

NYSSA
“What’s that? Who’s laughing?”

NINA
(annoyed) “Oh that’ll be our Dwaxi guards. Not sure what’s put them in such a happy mood.”

They listen to hear clearly the Dwaxi guards’ conversation and laughter from a distance.

DWAXI GUARD #1
“So did you hear? Word from the Blockade about that demonstration they gave to the Earth ship!”

DWAXI GUARD #2
“Those pathetic Dalek pots really got mussed up!

NYSSA
(shocked) “Daleks!”

JACK
“Quiet, Nyssa. Let’s hear them.”

They continue to listen, as the Dwaxi guards continue their conversation from a distance.

DWAXI GUARD #1
(laughs) “They make me laugh whenever I see them! They’re so dull and boring!”

DWAXI GUARD #2
“Yeah! Stupid pathetic tin pots! I wouldn’t have my supper with them!”

DWAXI GUARD #1
(changes subject) “Anyway! Commander Targah is coming down soon!”

DWAXI GUARD #2
“Then we really shall get some action.”

The Dwaxi guards continue talking, whilst Nyssa gathers Nina and Jack to her in their prison.

NYSSA
“We’ve got to get out of this prison. If the Daleks are here, then we’re in real trouble.”

JACK
“So that’s why those Dalek ships were destroyed.”

NINA
“We found some Dalek ships on the way to Yondamus space, Nyssa. We didn’t know why they were in that state. Could these guys be the ones capable of destroying the Daleks?”

NYSSA
“They certainly seem to create that impression of strength and bullying. I saw the horrible way that Blockade treated Billy.”

JACK
“But how are we going to get out? This force field’s impenetrable!”

NYSSA
“We must find the weak point.”

Nyssa stands and inspects the force-field. After a while, she unbuttons the top of her Traken collar and takes her brooch off.

JACK
“What are you doing, Nyssa?”

NYSSA
“Testing the force-field.”

Nyssa raises her brooch slowly to the perimeter of the force-field. The field shudders as an excess of electrical energy is released. Nyssa keeps holding her brooch to the force-field as it repels the friction. Nyssa reacts in pain, feeling the impact of the force-field and drops her brooch to the floor.

NINA
“Nyssa?”

Nina and Jack approach Nyssa and check how she is with her hand.

JACK
“Are you alright?”

NYSSA
“I think so.”

NINA
“You haven’t burned yourself, have you?”

NYSSA
“No. That’s a relief.”

NINA
“You shouldn’t have had your hand up to the force field for so long, Nyssa.”

NYSSA
“Well I didn’t have any scientific equipment to assess the voltage of this field. So my brooch was a last resort.” (Pause) “It certainly contains a high voltage level of electrical power. We need something insulated to break through the weak point.”

JACK
“But would that mean something large?”

NYSSA
“No. The energy barrier would be penetrated if a small amount of insular interference was projected.”

NINA
“Well what about this?”

Nina takes out a plastic badge from her pocket to hand to Nyssa. Nyssa takes it from Nina.

NYSSA
(intrigued) “A plastic badge?”

NINA
“It was something I wore when I was helping out at a children’s holiday club back on Earth. Somehow I haven’t got rid of it.”

NYSSA
(gradually) “It’s perfect. May I use it, Nina?”

NINA
“By all means.”

NYSSA
(to Jack) “Jack, are you familiar with discharge modulators on force fields?”

JACK
“I know a little bit about them, yes.”

NYSSA
“Show me where it is with this one, please.”

JACK
“It’s down here.”

Nyssa and Jack kneel to see the discharge modulator for the force field.

NYSSA
“Now. The voltage capacity of this field’s very strong. We need to lower the level in order to use Nina’s plastic badge to break the barrier. How much lower do you think the field should be?”

JACK
(thinks) “Well, I’d say down to a level of four hundred and fifty volts.”

NYSSA
“Could you lower the level down to that point with my assistance?”

JACK
(intrigued; excited) “I don’t see why not.”

NYSSA
“Let’s get to work then.”

Nyssa and Jack start working, as Nina watches them.

SCENE #52 – EXT – KARZ NEBULA, YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
Meanwhile, at the border of Yondamus space in the Karz Nebula, the Dalek mothership slowly makes its way into Yondamon territory. It sits on the edge of the nebula with a fleet of Dalek ships cruising beside it.

SCENE #53 – INT – DALEK MOTHERSHIP – 26TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
On the command deck of the Dalek mothership, a Dalek Technician glides in whilst other Dalek activity occurs in the background. The Dalek technician approaches to meet the Command Dalek.

COMMAND DALEK
“REPORT!”

DALEK TECHNICIAN
“DWAXI FLEET CLAIMED LOCATED IN YONDAMUS TERRITORY. SPECIFIC LOCATION INDICATES IT IS IN ORBIT AROUND FOURTH PLANET OF YONDAMUS.”

COMMAND DALEK
“WHAT OF THE DALEK SQUADRON SENT TO INFILTRATE AND KILL?”

DALEK TECHNICIAN
“LAST REPORT OF DALEK SQUADRON INDICATES THEY IDENTIFIED DWAXI FLEET AND EARTH SHIP MOONRAKER AND ADVANCED TO ATTACK. COMMUNI-CATIONS BROKE AS SOON AS REPORT ENTERED. STATED REASONS UNKNOWN.”

COMMAND DALEK
“UNDERSTOOD.” (Pause) “CONTINUE REPORT.”

DALEK TECHNICIAN
“DALEK SQUADRON HAS IDENTIFIED THE WHEREABOUTS OF THE ENEMY OF THE DALEKS KNOWN AS THE DOC-TOR.”

COMMAND DALEK
“EXCELLENT. WHERE IS HE?”

DALEK TECHNICIAN
“HE IS ON THE EARTH SHIP MOONRAKER. DNA SCANS AND REPORTS OF LIFE SIGNS OF DOC-TOR CONFIRM HE IS ONBOARD!”

COMMAND DALEK
“HE WILL BE BROUGHT TO US! HE WILL HELP US IN OUR MISSION TO DESTROY THE ONES WHO CLAIM SUPERIORITY. DALEKS ARE THE SUPREME BEINGS. NO ONE CAN DEFY OUR SUPERIORITY!” (louder) “NO-ONE! NO-ONE! NO-ONE!”

DALEK TECHNICIAN
“YES.” (Pause) “SHALL I SEND DALEK PATROL TO SEEK THE MOONRAKER?”

COMMAND DALEK
“YES! THE SUPREME DALEK WILL ARRIVE SHORTLY. HE WILL WANT PROGRESS OF OUR STRATAGEM. SEE TO IT THAT THE DOC-TOR IS BROUGHT HERE IMMEDIATELY!”

DALEK TECHNICIAN
“I OBEY!”

The Dalek technician glides off, whilst the Command Dalek stays on the command deck.

COMMAND DALEK
“WE SHALL BE VICTORIOUS! WILL BE SUPERIOR! THE DWAXI WILL BE ANNIHILATED! THE DALEKS ARE NEVER DEFEATED!” (louder) “NEVER DEFEATED!”

SCENE #54 – EXT – YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
Meanwhile, the starship Moonraker, travels on warp speed through the Yondamus Passage in Yondamus Space, a fair distance away from the Dwaxi menace at Yondamus IV. The ship then slows to one quarter impulse.

SCENE #55 – INT – SICK BAY, MOONRAKER – 26TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
On the Moonraker, the Doctor and Billy are in sick bay. Billy has been tended to by the doctors and nurses, although he is a little woozy and sore. Gavin keeps watch on the Doctor and Billy whilst they’re in sick-bay.

DOCTOR
“How are you feeling now, Billy?”

BILLY
“A little better, thanks.” (Pause) “What about you?”

DOCTOR
“Oh don’t worry about me. It’s you I’m concerned about. You’ve been fortunate you’re still alive.”

BILLY
“One of us wasn’t fortunate though, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
“She’ll be fine, Billy. I hope.”

BILLY
“Well at least the medicine they have in the future is astounding. I’m amazed they managed to get so many cures for so many diseases.”

DOCTOR
“Human medicine has advanced quite considerably, Billy. They’ve had help.”

BILLY
“Hmm. Well maybe I could…bring back a few souvenirs. Take a few remedies for cancer, or ask the Captain when he’s willing to talk if we could…” (Pause; realises) “Oh. By the shaking of your head you mean ‘No Billy, we mustn’t take anything from here as it’s not the way we do things in the TARDIS’. Fair enough.”

DOCTOR
“It’s commendable you think so well to help others. But one little thing altered can change the course of history.” (thoughtful) “And this period of history seems to be a fixed point in time.”

BILLY
“Doctor, there are times when I wonder what you’re talking about.”

DOCTOR
“It’s probably the way.”

Just then, Elaine enters.

ELAINE
“Doctor; Billy?”

DOCTOR
“Ah, Commander Thomas. Nice to see you.”

GAVIN
“Shall I take them to the brig, Commander?”

ELAINE
“Wait, Gavin.” (to Billy) “How are you feeling now?”

BILLY
“Much better thanks. Just a bit sore.”

ELAINE
(to Gavin) “Gavin, will you leave us for a moment.”

GAVIN
“Commander?”

ELAINE
“Please do as I say.”

Hesitantly and reluctantly, Gavin leaves. Once Gavin is gone, Elaine attends to the Doctor and Billy.

ELAINE
“Please. Sit down.”

DOCTOR
“Thank you.”

The Doctor and Billy sit on the sick beds, as Elaine addresses them.

ELAINE
“The Captain wants you in the brig.”

DOCTOR
“Yes, so we gathered.”

BILLY
“He doesn’t seem to like us very much.”

ELAINE
“He’s not that bad when you get to know him.” (Pause) “I’d like to see if I can change his mind and put you two to good use.” (Pause) “Doctor? You said you and your friend are here to help.”

DOCTOR
“Yes. And I meant it.”

ELAINE
(gradually) “You said you had experience with the Daleks. You said you believe you and the Captain can work together to solve the issue.”

DOCTOR
“Yes.”

ELAINE
“I wonder how this can be done. For a start we have no idea who you are, apart from the fact we found you on the planet with a blue box. Visual records of you and your friend are hardly recognised by the ship computer from the empire database. Your profiles aren’t on record. If I was the captain, I wouldn’t be sure whether to trust you or not.”

DOCTOR
“You can’t judge always by facts and statistics, Commander Thomas. I’ve met the Daleks many times, yes. And I’ve defeated them. So if you could put in a word to the Captain that I’m willing to offer my service, I don’t see how he could refuse.”

ELAINE
“Maybe you don’t, but I do. He’s not a man to be underestimated too lightly.”

DOCTOR
“That’s certainly true. The Captain does have an air of not suffering fools gladly.”

Moment of silence.

BILLY
“Miss Thomas?”

ELAINE
“Yes.”

BILLY
“I’m concerned about Nyssa. I want to know if she’s okay. If we, the Doctor and I, were to help you sort this problem with the…Dwaxi and the…Daleks…we might be able to get what we want, if you follow me.”

DOCTOR
“And your Captain said that he had crew members of his own missing.”

ELAINE
“Yes he did. Dr. Nina Cole our medical officer; and Jack Kelly our pilot.”

DOCTOR
“Well it seems to me Miss Thomas, that both parties involved are on equal terms. We’d be willing to save your missing crew members as well as save Nyssa. Wouldn’t we, Billy?”

BILLY
(enthused) “Yes definitely. Of course.”

Elaine considers this for a while, before making a decision.

ELAINE
“I’ll see what I can do, Doctor. I’ll talk to the Captain about it. I’ll try and persuade him to listen to your offer.”

DOCTOR
“Thank you.”

ELAINE
“I must ask you to stay in sick bay for the time being. I’ll tell Gavin to keep watch on you.”

BILLY
“We understand.”

ELAINE
“I hope my Captain will be willing to listen.”

Elaine leaves sick bay, as the electronic doors slide open and close for her. The Doctor relaxes once Elaine has gone.

DOCTOR
(pleased) “Well I think that went well.” (to Billy) “Thank you, Billy.”

BILLY
“My pleasure, Doctor.”

Moment of silence.

BILLY
“Doctor? The Daleks? You’ve met them before.”

DOCTOR
“Many times. I was there during their creation; averted a diabolical plan to control Earth and take out its core…”

BILLY
“They invaded Earth?”

DOCTOR
(continues; sadly) “…and of course they destroyed the loveliest village in all of England.”

BILLY
(gradually) “They sound very nasty.”

DOCTOR
“Oh they are. They are.” (Pause) “But how does that compare to the Dwaxi?”

SCENE #56 – INT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
Back on Yondamus IV, Nyssa and Jack are still at work to lower the voltage capacity of the force field. Nina paces about, waiting anxiously whilst they work.

NINA
(anxiously) “How much longer is this going to take, Jack?”

JACK
“This is a delicate procedure, Nina. We’re working as hard as we can.”

Nyssa meanwhile focuses on the task at hand.

NYSSA
“Now if I just…reset the parameters to…four hundred and fifty…” (to Jack) “Jack? I need you to measure the density and balance the outflow level once it reaches critical.”

JACK
“I can do that, yes. If the dischargers go on the blink, we’ll duck for cover.”

NINA
“Why should the dischargers go on the blink?”

NYSSA
“There’s a slight element of risk if we set the voltage capacity too low and we won’t be able to control it. But if you have your badge ready we might be able to break the weak areas of the field instantly.”

NINA
“Oh you can rely on me.”

JACK
(concerned) “Nyssa? Once we’re able to break out, what happens if those guards come?”

NYSSA
“We’ll have to run as fast as we can. Which I know is hard to say.” (Pause; encouragingly) “Are we ready?”

JACK
“Ready.”

NINA
“Ready.”

NYSSA
“Alright.” (Pause) “Setting parameters to fix…”

Nyssa tweaks a dial on the side of the force field discharger at a level of 450.

NYSSA
“Right, Jack. When I say now, activate the authentication mechanism.”

JACK
(nervously) “Okay.”

Moment of silence.

NYSSA
“Now!”

Jack presses the authentication switch and the force field barriers immediately start to shimmer. The high amount of electricity starts to slow down. The force field is now a fragile shell of sparks and electricity.

NINA
(thrilled) “You’ve done it! Thank God, you’ve both done it!”

NYSSA
“Jack! Hold that level down as hard as you can.”

JACK
“Right.”

NYSSA
(to Nina) “Nina, use your badge.”

NINA
“Yes, Nyssa.”

Nina holds her plastic badge and presses it against the force field. Soon the force field dies down. But as the three prisoners cheer in triumph in succeeding the first part of escape, Dwaxi Guard #1 and #2 come round the corner.

DWAXI GUARD #1
“What’s going on?”

NYSSA
(cries) “Quick! Let’s get out of here!”

Nina; Jack and Nyssa make a run for it, before Dwaxi Guard #1 and #2 see them escaping.

DWAXI GUARD #2
(shouts) “Hey! Those scums have broken the force field!”

DWAXI GUARD #1
(fiercely; to Dwaxi Guard #2) “Right! You get after the girls! I’ll deal with this one!”

Dwaxi Guard #2 chases after Nyssa and Nina, whilst Dwaxi Guard #2 deals with Jack.

JACK
(determined) “Oh no! Not this time!”

Jack throws a punch at Dwaxi Guard #1, first in the chest and then in the face. But it has no effect.

DWAXI GUARD #2
(taunts) “Is that the best you can do? Two punches in my chest and then in my face! You are pathetic!”

Dwaxi Guard #1 overpowers Jack as he hits him with a terrible hammer. The hammer knocks Jack out unconscious to the ground. Dwaxi Guard #1 laughs out loud menacingly after knocking Jack out with his hammer.

SCENE #57 – EXT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
Nyssa and Nina run out of the warehouse, as they’re chased by Dwaxi Guard #2.

NINA
(realises; panics) “Jack! We’ve left him behind! He’s still in there!”

Nina makes to turns back, before Nyssa stops her.

NYSSA
“No, Nina. If we go back, we’ll be caught as well!”

NINA
(panics) “We can’t just leave him, Nyssa! He helped us to escape! We must go back for him!”

NYSSA
“No, Nina. We must go! Come on!”

Nina tries to go back, but Nyssa immediately grabs her to stop her. Both run on ahead to leave out of the warehouse. Dwaxi Guard #2 exits out of the watehouse, grunting and breathing heavily to chase the two women.

SCENE #58 – INT – READY ROOM, MOONRAKER – 26TH CENTURY – AFTERNOON
Aboard the Moonraker, in the Captain’s ready room, Elaine discusses with Captain Sulley and Colin about the Doctor and Billy. The discussion is rather heated at the moment.

CAPTAIN
“Commander Thomas, have you taken leave of your senses? Do you seriously mean to suggest that we trust these two strangers?”

ELAINE
“Their story might be absurd, Captain. But they are more-or-less in the same position as we are. We’ve lost Nina and Jack, and they’ve lost their own friend. And the Doctor claims to know about the Daleks.”

COLIN
“He would. In order to get out of a scrape.”

ELAINE
“He says he’s beaten them before many times. Surely Captain, we can show some trust in these two? They might be telling the truth about what they say.”

CAPTAIN
(laughs; mockingly) “So you believe they have a time and space machine inside that small blue box of theirs.”

ELAINE
“I said nothing about that.”

COLIN
“That they came here moments after the Yondamus Four was attacked?”

ELAINE
(to Captain) “There could be elements of truth in what they say, captain?”

CAPTAIN
“How can there be elements of truth, when their records and profiles aren’t on file in the Earth Empire database.”

ELAINE
“Yes that is something I can’t understand, captain. Granted they do seem suspicious for their reputation.” (Pause) “But just a while ago we encountered a horrifying form of life that considers us an enemy. And they seem more powerful than the Daleks. You saw for yourself that the Daleks were no match for them.”

CAPTAIN
“Yes and I intend to take heed of the Dwaxi’s warning.”

ELAINE
But surely we can counteract these threats.” (Pause) “Captain, the Doctor deserves to prove himself that he’s not our enemy. And I’m willing to give him a chance if you are.”

CAPTAIN
(sighs) “Miss Thomas, sometimes I wonder what’s got into you. How can you trust these two?”

ELAINE
“Maybe it’s because there’s so much distrust the way things are back at home. The way things are with the coalition government…”

COLIN
“Let’s not go into that again.”

ELAINE
“Please, Captain. Consider the Doctor’s offer of help.”

Moment of silence. Captain Sulley then stands up from his chair and moves away from his desk to look out of the window into space. Wilson meanwhile confers quietly to Elaine.

COLIN
(whispers) “If those two cause the deaths of us all on this ship, may God put you responsible Elaine.”

ELAINE
(whispers) “Thank you, Colin. I’ll bear that in mind.”

Eventually, Captain Sulley turns back from the window to address Elaine.

CAPTAIN
(gradually) “Very well, Commander Thomas. Tell the Doctor I’ll take his offer of help.”

ELAINE
“Thank you, sir.”

CAPTAIN
“But on one condition.” (Pause) “He is your responsibility. Is that understood?”

ELAINE
“Perfectly understood, Captain.”

Moment of silence.

CAPTAIN
“Good. Since the Doctor wishes to offer help, get him started immediately. Show him the Dalek wreckage.”
