Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
Is anyone missing ‘Harry Hill’s World of TV’ on BBC Two? Well, I’m checking out the ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp’ DVDs lately. I hope to share with you what I like about ‘TV Burp’ from its five DVD releases that are currently available. These are DVD releases mostly feature Harry’s favourite bits from the series.
Let’s start off with ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp Gold’, the first volume of the best bits from ‘TV Burp’, which was released in 2008. At the time, I was watching ‘TV Burp’ at my Nana’s in Newport every Saturday evening on ITV1. I miss those days! I first saw ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp Gold’ at my best mate Stephen’s place.
I enjoyed the DVD so much that I had to get our own Bradley family’s copy of it. I can’t recall how we got the DVD. It must’ve been either through Amazon or when we went shopping in Cardiff. Either way, we enjoyed the DVD, finding some bits of ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp’ very funny and entertaining indeed. 🙂
‘TV Burp’ use to mock the TV shows that were being shown every week before a Saturday evening. This includes shows like the soap operas – ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Eastenders’ and ‘Emmerdale’. I can’t claim to know a lot about the soaps, but I enjoyed how Harry took the mickey out of them comically.
On ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp Gold’, I enjoyed the ‘Steve MacDonald had a Farm’ song using clips featuring sound effects of animals from a few of the characters of ‘Corrie’ as well as ‘The Royal Today’ and ‘Emmerdale’. I laughed so much. I found the ‘cataract’ running gag from ‘Emmerdale’ funny. 🙂 It was also funny when Harry made fun of people being clumsy and dropping things like papers and pots. 😀
I enjoyed Harry making fun of some of the Jane Austen TV productions made in 2007, including ‘Persuasion’ with Sally Hawkins and ‘Mansfield Park’ with Billie Piper. It was funny with the long drawn-out kiss in ‘Persuasion’. My parents and I still make fun of that even today. 😀 It was funny how Billie played a ‘long’ game of badminton in ‘Mansfield Park’, but ‘not really’ if you know what I mean.
The chase scene in one of ‘The Bill’ episodes was funny. At least, it was funny when Harry got involved in the chase, only to give the criminal a plastic bag back. 😀 I also found it funny when during an interrogation; the person being interrogated seemed to be distracted by a fly flying about. It’s amazing Harry can spot these little details in an episode of ‘The Bill’ that viewers wouldn’t notice.
There were some funny bits with the cookery shows like ‘Hugh’s Chicken Run’ where Harry was unimpressed with ‘the chicken game’ and where it was fun to play around with little chicks in a box. I also found it amusing when Harry made fun of Jamie Oliver in ‘Jamie At Home’ with cauliflower and celery. When Jamie points out the purple cauliflower, Harry bluntly points out ‘it’s the wrong colour’.
I found the ‘Australian Princess’ bits funny, especially when Paul Burrell explained how to do a proper cup of tea to which Harry was unimpressed, saying, “I’ve changed my mind. I’ll have a coffee.” 😀 The old man featured in ‘The Royal Today’ and taking a long time to give a Mars bar to Harry was funny. It’s those skits featured in ‘TV Burp’ that make you laugh out loud that are funny. 🙂
It was interesting to see Patrick Stewart appear in a series called ‘The Eleventh Hour’. I found it funny when Harry told the audience that ‘Patrick Stewart comes clean’, cutting to him saying “I think I’m an idiot.” It’s also amusing that Norwich was one of the cities affected by an ozone attack in the series. Equally amusing when Patrick ‘speed-dialled’ 4 on the phone and it was Harry that answered!
I was inspired by some of the stuff featured in ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp Gold’ DVD in my ‘Doctor Who’ stories. This includes the ‘winners’ joke Harry made about someone in ‘The Apprentice’ for ‘The Stockbridge Terror’. I found it funny when Harry compared Sir Alan Sugar to Sid James. The two do look alike, don’t they?! I’ve not seen ‘Derek Acorah’s Ghost Towns’, though the ‘Scooby-Doo’ joke by Harry was amusing.
The ‘FIGHT’ featured on the DVD in the main feature is between a toaster and a shark. 😀 I didn’t like the singing performed by that woman from ‘Marbella Belles’. I don’t know why Harry invited that woman from ‘Marbella Belles’ to sing in his show. I’m home already and I still don’t like it, Harry. 😀
The ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp’ DVDs are always a treat when they have ‘extra burps’ to look forward to. On ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp Gold’, there are ‘extra burps’ like ‘Unseen TV Burp’, ‘TV Burp: The Fights’, the outtakes and ‘Freaky Eaters Top Ten’. I’m really surprised there were clips of ‘TV Burp’ unseen on TV.
Anyway, those are some of my thoughts about ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp Gold’. I still rate ‘TV Burp’ over ‘World of TV’ any day. I’m looking forward to watching the next ‘Harry Hill’s TV Burp’ DVD as they’re always a joy and a pleasure to sit down to. The DVDs do help to cheer you when you’re feeling low. 🙂
The ‘cheese rehearsal’ joke from ‘Club Reps’ was funny too. 😀
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
