Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
After checking out the William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann DVD compilations of ‘Myth Makers’ interviews, it’s only fair I check out another ‘Myth Makers’ interview with another Doctor. This time, with Trevor Martin!
I purchased the ‘Myth Makers’ DVD with Trevor Martin from Time Travel TV, the current home of Reeltime Pictures. I greatly enjoyed watching Trevor Martin’s ‘Myth Makers’. It was fascinating to hear insight from a man who played the Doctor for a short time on the stage and in Big Finish audio.
Trevor Martin is well-known to ‘Doctor Who’ fans for playing the alternative Fourth Doctor in the 1974 stage show ‘Doctor Who and the Daleks in Seven Keys to Doomsday’. In 2008, Trevor Martin reprised his role of the Doctor in the audio adaptation of ‘Seven Keys to Doomsday’ by Big Finish. 😀
Recently, I had a chance to continue Trevor Martin’s Fourth Doctor adventures by writing the short story ‘The City of the Bad Wolf’ for the ‘Unbound Imaginings, Volume 2’ anthology by the Divergent Wordsmiths. I greatly enjoyed writing the story and doing my take on Trevor Martin’s Fourth Doctor.
I also enjoyed writing Jenny and Jimmy, who were Trevor Martin’s Doctor’s companions in the stage and audio versions of ‘Seven Keys to Doomsday’. I’m saddened Trevor Martin never got to do more than one story as his Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’. It would have been exciting to hear more of his adventures.
Trevor’s ‘Myth Makers’ interview took place at ‘The Capitol’ convention at the Arora Hotel in Gatwick, May 2016. I attended ‘The Capitol II’ event a year later. Trevor is interviewed by Martin Parsons at the convention. The feature presentation is produced and directed by Keith Barnfather. 🙂
As well as Trevor being interviewed, there’s a convention panel conducted by Martin Parsons featuring Trevor Martin with Charlie Hayes, who played Jenny in the Big Finish audio adaptation of ‘Seven Keys to Doomsday’, and Terrance Dicks, who wrote the stage play and later adapted it for audio. 🙂
I enjoyed the feature presentation cutting back and forth from Trevor being interviewed to seeing clips of the convention panel of Trevor, Charlie and Terrance. You can also watch the convention panel between Trevor, Charlie and Terrance in full after Trevor’s ‘Myth Makers’ interview is finished.
It’s very fitting for me to see Trevor with Charlie and Terrance on a convention panel at ‘The Capitol’ event. I dedicated my story ‘The City of the Bad Wolf’ to Trevor and Terrance when it was published in ‘Unbound Imaginings, Volume 2’. I’ve met Terrance at conventions but I sadly never met Trevor. 😦
I wish I got a chance to meet Trevor at a convention as he seems to be a nice gentleman. It was also fascinating to hear his acting background and what family he was brought in since he was the only ‘Sassenach’ among a family of Scots. 😀 Trevor also has a really varied theatre and radio background.
As well as playing the alternative Fourth Doctor in ‘Seven Keys to Doomsday’, both stage and audio, Trevor also played the Second Time Lord in ‘The War Games’ on TV. He also played a variety of characters in the radio story ‘The Paradise of Death’ and worked with Big Finish before in ‘Flip-Flop’.
During the convention panel, it was very nice to hear Charlie Hayes share her experiences of playing Jenny in the audio adaptation of ‘Seven Keys to Doomsday’. She also shares her memories of her mum Wendy Padbury who played Jenny in the stage show and what it was like working with Trevor.
I’ve recently discovered that Trevor Martin appeared in Series 2, Episode 4 of ‘Call the Midwife’ back in 2013. I checked the episode again on BBC iPlayer and it was only one scene he did, playing Mr. Giddings. I’m surprised I missed that when I first saw the episode. 😀 It was amazing to see him in that.
Trevor Martin sadly passed away in 2017 after doing his ‘Myth Makers’ interview in 2016. It’s a shame as I would’ve liked to have met him at a convention and heard him play the Doctor again in some Big Finish audios. I’m glad I’ve seen Trevor’s ‘Myth Makers’ interview and I’m glad I’ve written ‘The City of the Bad Wolf’ featuring his Doctor. I wonder if I will write another story for his Doctor. 😀
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim. 🙂
