Quick ‘Loki’ Review – ‘The Nexus Event’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Let’s talk about the fourth episode of the ‘Loki’ series in the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’! I’m not sure how people are able to follow this ‘Loki’ series when they watch it on Disney+, but it must get complicated for some viewers, especially with the many twists and turns that involve the characters.

In the episode, with Lamentis-1 being destroyed around them, following the events of the previous episode, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie have a romantic moment. This creates a unique branched timeline, which alerts the Time Variance Agency (TVA) to their location. 😐

Loki and Sylvie are soon rescued and arrested by the TVA. Loki and Sylvia are separated from each other for some time in the episode. It’s intriguing a love relationship is formed between the two, even though they’ve only known each other for a few days. But then, they are Lokis after all here. 😀

Loki finds himself being put in a time loop by Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius where he re-lives a moment from his past in being beaten up by Jaimie Alexander as Sif, who tells him he will always be alone. Sif appeared in ‘Thor’ and ‘Thor: The Dark World’. A pity Chris Hemsworth didn’t do a cameo.

Meanwhile, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15 hears from Mobius that Loki told him that what the Time-Keepers have told the TVA has been a lie. B-15 gets answers from Sylvia who unlocks her memories to prove that she is a variant. Her life hasn’t always been with the Time-Keepers and the TVA.

It’s also intriguing how Mobius learns for himself that all is not what it seems with the TVA and the Time-Keepers. His boss, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer also turns out to be dodgy since he tells him Sasha Lane as Hunter C-20 died from a mental breakdown, but earlier, he found her fine. 😐

Later in the episode, when Mobius hears more of Loki’s story and how the Time-Keepers have been lying to the TVA, he finds a recording of Renslayer interrogating a mentally sound C-20 who insists the TVA workers are all variants. Renslayer covers the matter for what reasons I’m not entirely sure.

Mobius tries to free Loki from the loop, but Renslayer confronts them both and has Mobius killed by ‘pruning’ him. Aww, that’s such a shame. I was hoping Owen Wilson might have lasted a little longer till the end of the ‘Loki’ series. Maybe he might come back at some point in the last two episodes. 😐

Who knows? 😀 Renslayer brings Loki and Sylvie to the Time-Keepers. And boy, are they unimpressive?! Oh certainly they try to look intimidating in their throne chairs. I don’t know if it’s me though, but I couldn’t understand a word the Time-Keepers said when Loki and Sylvie faced them. 😀

But it’s revealed that the Time-Keepers are actually androids when Sylvie manages to behead one of them. That’s an intriguing revelation. Perhaps the android Time-Keepers we saw in this episode aren’t the real Time-Keepers at all. And if that’s the case, who are the real Time-Keepers anyway?! 😐

Hunter B-15 helps Loki and Sylvie out when they fight off Renslayer and a number of TVA guards. I’m curious as to why Renslayer would be so against Loki and his/her variants, especially when in a pre-credits sequence, she captured/arrested a young Sylvia to the TVA. Sylvia was able to escape though. 😐

Loki ends up being ‘pruned’ by Renslayer once she recovers from the initial battle. Sylvie however manages to overpower Renslayer as she demands the truth from her about what’s going on. And that’s something we’re going to wait for until the series’ fifth episode, which I’m looking forward to.

There’s also a mid-credits scene where Loki wakes up in a post-apocalyptic New York City and he meets several other Loki variants, including Richard E. Grant (and yes, I had to double-check that was him) as Classic Loki; Jack Veal as Kid Loki and DeObia Oparei as Boastful Loki. What’s going on here?!

Maybe Mobius can come back to life if Loki managed to come back to life where he ended up in post-apocalyptic New York. I’m curious about how things are going to turn out in the next two episodes of this series. Hopefully they’ll be excitingly entertaining if not baffling to watch on Disney+

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂
