Quick ‘Muppet Show’ Season Review – Season 1

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

For the past 24 weeks or so, my parents and I have been watching ‘The Muppet Show’ on Disney+! We’ve finished Season 1 and we’re about to check out Season 2. There are five seasons in total. We’re currently enjoying ‘The Muppet Show’ on Disney+ since it provides very good entertainment!

Before ‘The Muppet Show’ was available to view on Disney+, my parents and I had (and still have) the first three seasons of the show on DVD! I don’t think Seasons 4 and 5 have been released on DVD in the UK (correct me if I’m wrong). It’s nice to check out the entire ‘Muppet Show’ on Disney+.

Season 1 of ‘The Muppet Show’ was shown from 1976 to 1977. The transmission order for these episodes might be different in the USA compared to how they’re viewed in the UK. The order they’re presented in on Disney+ matches to how they’re presented in the DVD box sets. It’s so weird that! 😀

I recall having Season 1 of ‘The Muppet Show’ on DVD for my birthday once. I enjoyed watching the episodes on DVD, though I must admit, watching an episode in succession after the other can make the show a bit samey. I don’t think Season 1 is the greatest season of the lot as the show got better.

It’s nice to watch the episodes of the show week by week on Disney+ like my parents and I have done this year. It’s also great to see many Muppet characters in the show, including Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and Gonzo the Great. All the Muppet characters have been very entertaining.

There’s also a variety of guest stars to enjoy in ‘The Muppet Show’ episodes. In Season 1, there are guest stars such as Juliet Prowse, Connie Stevens, Harvey Korman, Peter Ustinov, Bruce Forsyth, Sandy Duncan, Vincent Price, Valerie Harper, Phyllis Diller, Twiggy, Ethel Merman and Kaye Ballard. 🙂

There are variety of items that keep reoccurring throughout ‘The Muppet Show’ including Fozzie’s stand-up comedy. Fozzie get heckled by Statler and Waldorf whenever he’s performing his stand-up show. Sometimes Fozzie manages to get back at them with their heckling, sometimes he doesn’t. 😐

There’s also ‘At the Dance’ which includes a number of Muppet characters telling jokes whilst they’re dancing, which I enjoyed. There’s ‘Muppet News Flash’ conducted by the Muppet Newsman. There’s ‘Wayne and Wanda’ who get introduced by Sam the Eagle and fail miserably in their acts. 😀

There are songs performed by the Electric Mayhem band in the show; ‘Gonzo’s Stunts’ which often go wrong; ‘Muppet Labs’ with Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (who isn’t joined by Beaker in the show’s first season); and ‘Panel Discussions’ where Kermit hosts the discussions on various topics that go wrong.

There’s also ‘Veterinarian’s Hospital’ which features Rowlf the Dog as Dr. Bob performing sketches with Miss Piggy and Janice where they conduct operations on patients and they crack jokes along the way. My favourite ‘Veterinarian’s Hospital’ sketch features a chicken that was actually a duck. 😀

My favourite Muppet character has to be Rowlf the Dog. I enjoy it when Rowlf performs at the piano and sings a song. I enjoyed it when he recited a poem and he got interrupted by other Muppet characters. It was funny when Rowlf sang the song “It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish.” 🙂

There’s also ‘The Swedish Chef’ where the Swedish Chef has his own cooking show but his dishes don’t turn out well, including some spaghetti that tries to strangle him. 😀 There are the talk spots where Kermit chats to the guest stars about their careers and working on ‘The Muppet Show’ show.

Season 1 of ‘The Muppet Show’ has been very enjoyable indeed. I’m glad my parents and I are currently watching ‘The Muppet Show’ each week as it’s something to get into before we watch a main feature on Disney+. I’m looking forward to viewing more ‘Muppet Show’ episodes in Season 2.

And of course, who could forget the ‘Mahna Mahna’ song in the Juliet Prowse episode of Season 1? 😀 Also Ernie and Bert from ‘Sesame Street’ were in Connie Steven’s episode! 😀

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂
