Hello everyone. 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley.
Well, after hearing about the filming on Series 7 of ‘Grantchester’ that took place this year (maybe Series 7 will be transmitted sooner rather than later in 2022), it’s time to talk about Series 6, Episode 4 of the crime drama series. And the crime-solving case occurs all in one night at the police station! 🙂
In the episode, a quiet nightshift gets disrupted when a group of young American airmen are arrested for trespassing at the local quarry and are brought to the police station. Robson Green as Geordie and Tom Brittney as Will investigate the case and also learn revelations about each other. 😐
It was intriguing to see how Geordie reacted to the fact that Will dropped out of national service (I believe) whereas he had to soldier on through warfare and such. Geordie resents Will from learning about that fact. Gradually, the two make it up to each other whilst solving this episode’s crime case.
I was surprised to see Al Weaver as Leonard back in the vicarage after he’d been put in a gaol cell at the end of the previous episode. Leonard is in a dark place in this episode as he’s about to go on trial the following morning and is drinking booze, which upsets Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs. C in the tale. 😐
Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel comes round the vicarage to try and cheer Leonard up. Initially, Leonard wants nothing to do with Daniel as he’s in such despair. It was fascinating to learn Daniel’s history when he was married and how things turned out rather badly when his homosexuality was revealed.
By the end, Leonard and Daniel have patched things up and Will spots them dancing to some jazz music in the garden. I still don’t know what’s going to happen to Leonard for the rest of the series. Maybe he’ll be let off with warning when put on trial. Will we see Leonard put on trial for next time?
Emily Patrick also returns as Tamara, Will’s stepsister in the episode. We saw Tamara in the second episode of Series 6. Tamara gets in trouble at the police station when she stole something at a restaurant. She’s cleared, but it transpires she put the thing she stole in Will’s pocket in the episode.
Bradley Hall is back as Larry and there’s also Melissa Johns as Miss Scott, who’s like the new secretary at the police station in ‘Grantchester’. Miss Scott gets a lot more dialogue in this episode compared to previous episodes. Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy also makes an appearance in the episode.
It was intriguing how Will and Geordie solved the case of the American airmen, especially when one of them was dead already at the police station and nobody noticed. There’s also something peculiar about the American airman in command. He happens to not be who he is as the episode progressed.
Series 6, Episode 4 of ‘Grantchester’ has been another enjoyable episode to watch from the series. It was intriguing to see the episode take place all in one night whereas most ‘Grantchester’ episodes take place over a certain amount of days. I’m greatly enjoying each episode as the series progresses.
With hope, my review on Series 6, Episode 5 of ‘Grantchester’ will be up on my blog next week.
Thanks for reading.
Bye for now.
Tim. 🙂
