Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ and I’m Tim Bradley!
It’s been 40 years since Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’ debuted in ‘Part One’ of ‘Castrovalva’ on the 4th of January 1982. The Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ means a lot to me, especially since I’ve met a lot of the actors/actresses who’ve played characters in the Fifth Doctor era at conventions.
As well as Peter Davison, I’ve met people like Sarah Sutton (my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ companion), Janet Fielding, Matthew Waterhouse, Mark Strickson and Nicola Bryant. I’m pleased to have met these people at conventions, and it’s amazing to know I’ve met Peter Davison, who plays one of my favourite Doctors in ‘Doctor Who’.
I first came across Peter Davison as an actor in the original ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ series. Nowadays, I regard him as the Fifth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’, and he’s been in many TV and film productions I’ve enjoyed over the years such as ‘Campion’, the 2018 film called ‘Patrick’, the 2020 Christmas Special of ‘Call the Midwife’, a Series 3 episode of ‘Grantchester’ and recently in ‘The Larkins’.
I’ve reviewed quite a lot of Fifth Doctor stories featuring Peter Davison as the character, including the TV series and the Big Finish audios. Please feel free to check out my reviews on the stories featured in Season 19 like ‘Castrovalva’, ‘Four to Doomsday’, ‘Kinda’, ‘The Visitation’, ‘Black Orchid’, ‘Earthshock’ and ‘Time-Flight’. I rate Season 19 very highly.
There are also some of my favourite Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’ like ‘Psychodrome’, ‘Iterations of I’, ‘The Mutant Phase’, ‘Primeval’, ‘Spare Parts’, ‘Circular Time’, ‘Castle of Fear’, ‘The Eternal Summer’, ‘Plague of the Daleks’, ‘The Demons of Red Lodge and Other Stories’, ‘1963: Fanfare For The Common Men’ and many more to check out.
I’ve also written plenty of ‘Doctor Who’ stories featuring the Fifth Doctor, Nyssa and Billy. They include the first trilogy of stories ‘The Railway of Time’, ‘The Space Hotel’ and ‘Doom of the Daleks’ as well as ‘The Tree of Riverloth’, ‘Dawn of the Dwaxi’, ‘The Stockbridge Terror’ and ‘The Prime Factor’. I’ve also shared ‘The Coins of Deno’ recently to celebrate 40 years of Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’.
For the Divergent Wordsmiths, I’ve written a number of short stories for their anthologies featuring the Fifth Doctor. This includes ‘Psychic Image’ (an alternative take of ‘Genesis of the Daleks’) in the ‘Genesis of Terror’ anthology, ‘The Crimson Lion’ in ‘The Paul Spragg ReCollections’ anthology, and ‘Into the Death-Space’ in ‘Unbound Imaginings, Volume 2’.
I’m currently looking forward to the first ‘Forty’ box set of Big Finish audios featuring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Janet Fielding as Tegan and Matthew Waterhouse as Adric to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Fifth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’. It’ll be interesting to hear Christopher Timothy and Barbara Flynn in the box set with Peter Davison too.
However you celebrate Peter Davison’s time as the Fifth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’, I’m sure you’ll be able to do it in style like I have. I’m grateful for the years of happiness I’ve had from enjoying Peter Davison’s era of ‘Doctor Who’ both on TV and audio, and it’s great to know I’ve met Peter and fellow actors from that era at conventions.
Thanks for reading!
Enjoy!
Tim. 🙂
Hi Tim.
I’m pleased that today is the 40th anniversary of the Fifth Doctor. I’m going to re-download and listen to ‘The Mutant Phase’ and then wait a few days before purchasing ‘Forty’ as well as ‘Circular Time’. I also look forward to watching all the way through Season 20 this year as well as the first three stories of Season 21 which I’ve not seen, apart from ‘The Five Doctors’ and ‘Warriors of the Deep’. I’m not sure if I’ll include the last three Fifth Doctor stories as part of the run. You can expect to hear my thoughts on all that as well various Fifth Doctor Big Finish audios and the novels ‘The Sands of Time’ and ‘Goth Opera’. I also hope to read the rest of ‘The Coins of Deno’, ‘Mirror of Memory’, ‘Into the Death-Space’ and the whole of Season 1 of ‘The Fifth Doctor by Tim Bradley’.
I’m still hoping to get my blog up and running this month. I started my second term of University today so I will have that as my first priority. I also hope to get ‘The Fifth Doctor by WF92’ started later this year. I’ve got quite a few ideas for my fanfics and have started planning out seasons. I will do them in script form since that’s how they started out, even though prose form would allow me to give more detail.
Away from the Fifth Doctor, I hope to comment on your review of ‘Eve of the Daleks’ tomorrow. I’ll also comment on your reviews of ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ and ‘Frontier in Space’.
Take care, WF92.
