Jason David Frank (1973-2022)

Hello everyone.

On my return trip home from attending a convention in London last Sunday, I was shocked to discover that Jason David Frank, who played Tommy Oliver in ‘Power Rangers’, died at 49. It’s so sad to hear the circumstances of his death, as I enjoyed ‘Power Rangers’ as well as Jason David Frank being Tommy.

Jason David Frank made his debut in ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers’ in the five-part story called ‘Green with Evil’. Since then, he became popular playing Tommy as the Green Ranger and later as the White Ranger in ‘Mighty Morphin’. He later became the Red Zeo Ranger in ‘Power Rangers Zeo’.

And for a short while, Jason David Frank played Tommy as the Red Turbo Ranger in ‘Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie’ and the first half of ‘Power Rangers Turbo’. The ‘Turbo’ era of ‘Power Rangers’ is what I started on with getting into the series and I remember Jason David Frank as Tommy very fondly.

Since leaving the series in 1997, Jason David Frank returned to play Tommy as the Red Zeo Ranger in the 10th anniversary special episode ‘Forever Red’ in ‘Power Rangers Wild Force’. He played Tommy again in ‘Power Rangers Dino Thunder’ as the Black Dino Thunder Ranger. I got to see that TV series.

Jason David Frank has also returned to play Tommy in the season finale of ‘Power Rangers Super Megaforce’ as well as the 25th anniversary of ‘Power Rangers’ in an episode of ‘Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel’. He and Amy Jo Johnson also cameoed for the ‘Power Rangers’ film made in 2017.

Again, it’s so sad to hear the news of Jason David Frank’s death and it’s a shock he died so young. I can imagine how upset ‘Power Rangers’ fans are by the news of his death as well as those who worked with him on the various incarnations of the TV show. His legacy will be forever remembered.

My prayers and thoughts are with the friends and family of Jason David Frank during this terrible time.
