Day 3 – ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2022

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s Day 3 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2022.

Let’s see Sarah Jane and Harry joining the Fourth Doctor in the TARDIS at the end of ‘Robot’. 🙂

The last scene at the end of the ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘Robot’ is one of my favourites from the entire story. And it’s not hard to see why. After the disintegration of the K1 robot, Sarah Jane is feeling sad about it having ‘died’. The Doctor enters and he attempts to cheer Sarah Jane up with a jelly baby. 🙂

It’s funny when Tom Baker’s Doctor offers someone a jelly baby, almost as if he’s inviting you to join him in his adventures in the TARDIS. That’s certainly the impression get from watching this scene when he invites Sarah Jane to join him on his travels as well as Harry Sullivan when he enters the lab.

I like how Sarah Jane and the Doctor share their experiences of interacting with the K1 robot. Sarah Jane says that it seemed ‘so human’, and the Doctor says that it was capable of ‘great good’ and ‘great evil’. It was funny when the Doctor became ‘childish’ as he refused to do things for the Brigadier.

The Doctor has always been a kind of a rebel, even when he was Jon Pertwee. Here, when he’s Tom Baker, he’s pretty determined to leave his U.N.I.T. life behind, especially since his exile had been lifted by the Time Lords in ‘The Three Doctors’. I enjoyed it when Harry entered and became curious. 🙂

Harry isn’t convinced that the TARDIS can go anywhere, as he sees it as a police box. The Doctor allows Harry to prove him wrong, and Harry’s reaction inside the TARDIS (off-screen) is superb. 😀 It was very amusing when the Brigadier entered to find the Doctor and the TARDIS have already gone. 🙂

Thanks for watching and reading!
