Day 4 – ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2022

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s Day 4 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2022.

It’s time to see the Fifth Doctor put on his new clothes in ‘Castrovalva’! 🙂

It was fun to see Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor donning his cricketing costume with cricket jumper and trainers as well as the beige frock coat and the hat to go with it. People have criticised the red-stripped trousers as not being that of a typical Edwardian cricketer, but I think they’re fine. 🙂

It’s actually interesting to see the TARDIS having a sort-of cricket pavilion room where the Doctor went to don his cricket jumper, trousers and such. Then again, the TARDIS has a lot of unusual rooms, according to ‘The Invasion of Time’, and the Fourth Doctor did talk of cricket in ‘The Horns of Nimon’.

When I first saw ‘Castrovalva’ on DVD back in 2007, I didn’t realise that Adric was actually a projection and not the real person and at this point, he’d been caught in the Master’s hydron web in his TARDIS. Adric’s running around the TARDIS corridors convinced me that he was the real person. 🙂

I enjoyed Nyssa and Tegan’s scenes when they were exploring the TARDIS before they eventually found the Doctor. It was funny when the Doctor ran into them and he called Tegan ‘Vicki’. It was also funny when the Doctor came across Tegan’s lipstick on the TARDIS walls and he called it ‘carmine seepage’.

I wished the video clip continued to show the Doctor being led into the Zero Room once Nyssa found it. Peter’s Doctor trying out Patrick Troughton’s recorder was amusing to watch. Peter’s Doctor’s line of “That’s the trouble with regeneration. You never quite know what you’re going to get” is brilliant.

Thanks for watching and reading!

Check out what Day 4 of my ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendars for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 were about!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂
