Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
It’s Day 6 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2022.
It’s time to check out how the Fifth Doctor manages to solve the puzzle of Castrovalva! 🙂
Firstly, I like Peter Davison wearing his glasses as the Fifth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’. I know Janet Fielding has criticised them, but I think they suit Peter’s Doctor well. I think Peter should have worn the glasses more often. I have had his Doctor wear his glasses in my stories, like ‘The Space Hotel’. 🙂
I enjoyed the interaction Peter’s Doctor had with Michael Sheard as Mergrave. It was interesting to see how Peter’s Doctor tried to convince Mergrave and his associate Frank Wylie as Ruther about the puzzling state Castrovalva was in, illustrating the issue with a map drawn on the back of a mirror.
It was funny when Mergrave positioned his pharmacy on the map four times and he didn’t even realise what he was doing. The same applies to Ruther, who marks the Portreeve’s house on the map four times. The two gentlemen could have easily marked certain places on the map just once. 😐
I enjoyed it when Tegan became frustrated with the Castrovalvans, especially the women, who seemed to have hidden the Zero Cabinet deliberately. Nyssa is calmer than Tegan and she’s more practical when they take the Zero Cabinet back to the Doctor’s room, without any fuss or argument.
I liked it when the Doctor asked Mergrave before he drank his medicine, “How do I know you’re telling the truth?” and Mergrave answered “Because, sir, I maintain that I am. And I am a man of my word.” It was also funny when the Doctor drank the medicine and he called it by its very Latin name.
Thanks for watching and reading!
Bye for now!
