This is one of my favourite BBC TV sitcoms from the 1960s and 70s. I love ‘Dad’s Army’, starring Arthur Lowe, John Le Mesurier and Clive Dunn. I love the characters and the episodes from the series. This is a series I highly recommend, should you need relaxation and to feel good about yourself.

The series is about the Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard platoon led by Captain Mainwaring. It’s set during World War II and Mainwaring leads his men against the Nazis. Except the members of the Home Guard are the most bumbling lot that Mainwaring’s ever led in the most hilarious of scrapes.

‘Dad’s Army’ is a fantastic comedy series about the war-time spirit. I love watching this series with its loveable characters and amusing comedy situations. With the latest ‘Dad’s Army’ movie made in 2016, ‘The Complete Dad’s Army’ DVD Collection is an experience you don’t want to miss out on.

‘The Complete ‘Dad’s Army’ DVD collection’ is a 14 DVD box-set. I have my favourite episodes from the series as well as my favourite characters. I’m sure there are characters and episodes you’ll find your favourites when watching this series.

    Hi Tim

    A good idea, setting up some pages for Dad’s Army. I always loved the old series; so many funny moments, and very funny characters. It’s been a while since I saw any of the episodes, so I will enjoy reading your thoughts on the series, and reliving those funny old moments.

    Totally classic characters, with Captain Mainwaring and Wilson; all of them are just wonderfully written and wonderfully played. I always thought dear old Godfrey was such a lovely character; him and his sister Doris were so lovely.

    Great stuff, Tim! I always enjoy coming here to see what you’ve posted.

    That’s okay. I understand it’s too early in the morning for you there. For me, it’s 9:30 in the evening in the UK! 😀 I’ll let you off this time for Godfrey’s sister Doris; not Dolly. 😀

    Glad you like how I’ve set up my new ‘Dad’s Army’ pages. I love the BBC TV series and I’m hoping to extend my current reviews on these episodes for my blog when I get around to re-watching the DVD box set. I also look forward to reviewing the original ‘Dad’s Army’ movie; the 2016 movie and the BBC docu-drama about the making of ‘Dad’s Army’. I too love the characters in this series and have some favourite episodes of my own including ‘The Deadly Attachment’ which is a classic.

    I’m glad you like Mainwaring; Wilson and Godfrey from the series. Corporal Jones stands out for me as my favourite character from ‘Dad’s Army’. I like his catchphrases of ‘Don’t Panic’; ‘They don’t like it up them’ and ‘Permission to speak, sir’. I also like Frazer’s ‘We’re Doomed!’ and Mainwaring’s ‘You stupid boy!’ catchprases.

    Haha! Thanks, Tim, I’m glad you let me off!

    I have very fond memories of watching the original series over the years. I don’t think I’ve seen the movie, and I haven’t seen the new movie remake. Not sure I want to watch that.

    A docu-drama about the making of Dad’s Army sounds very interesting. I like to know how the old programs were made; I recently read a book all about Open All Hours, which was very interesting.

    The catchphrases of all the characters really are funny, aren’t they? I like Corporal Jones, definitely.
