‘COME IN, YOUR TIME IS UP’ (TV)

In this episode, the ‘Dad’s Army’ team spend a weekend camping by the lake in the countryside. Very soon, Bill Pertwee as Chief Warden Hodges, Frank Williams as the Vicar and Edward Sinclair as the Verger bring the Sea Scouts along with them as they also camp by the lake in the countryside. 😀
Well, Hodges tries to get back home but his van has run out of petrol due to giving the Vicar, the Verger and the Sea Scouts a lift. During the night, a plane crashes and three Germans air pilots bail out, ending up in a rubber dinghy in the lake. Can the ‘Dad’s Army’ team recover the three Germans?
I like how the episode began with Captain Mainwaring giving a lecture to his men about field-craft; the use of bivouac tents and the best way to eat a hedgehog. And this is in the Vicar’s garden! The ‘Dad’s Army’ team are using the Vicar’s garden since the air ward wardens are using the church hall.
The Verger and the Sea Scouts are also using the church yard. Harold Bennett as Mr. Blewitt gets confused and concerned when trying to do the Vicar’s garden at the same time. He first thinks Mainwaring’s doing a lecture on gardening. He objects to the ‘Dad’s Army’ team messing the garden.
Pike also gets his hands covered up in mud when Mainwaring demonstrates how to cook a hedgehog. I’m not sure you can eat hedgehogs as I’ve never eaten one and I don’t see them served in restaurants. 😀 Pike also gets drenched in water after going through the motions of lighting a fire.
The camping scenes are equally enjoyable. It was interesting to see Mainwaring and his men out in the open and camping by the lake. It’s ruined of course when the Vicar, Verger and Sea Scouts turn up and camp by the lake to play pirates. Mainwaring disapproves; unconvinced it’s helping the war.
The next day, Mainwaring spots the German air pilots and calls his men into action. I found it funny when Hodges got forced into helping Mainwaring’s team on the pirate raft. I was intrigued that he could speak German. It was really funny when Jonesy got to use a gas mask and he goes underwater.
‘Come In, Your Time Is Up’ is an enjoyable ‘Dad’s Army’ episode to watch. I don’t think it’s one of the best episodes I’ve seen, but I enjoyed how the ‘Dad’s Army’ team get to go outside and camp for the weekend. It was also so fun to see them getting into action when they try to recover three Germans.
