SERIES 2, EPISODE 3
Please feel free to comment on my review.
This episode is where Emmet makes his fears of Hyacinth clear. He’s terrified to go out and do a bit of gardening. Eventually, when he’s out in the garden, Hyacinth springs upon him with her singing and invites him to one of her candlelight suppers. Emmet cannot back out as Hyacinth doesn’t listen.
I must say that this episode had the promise of actually seeing what one of Hyacinth’s candlelight suppers were like. I don’t think there’s ever been a ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ episode where we see what goes on at Hyacinth’s candlelight supper. It’s just as well though as they’re bound to be boring.
This episode also had Rose trying to get Onslow and Daisy out of bed in order to tidy up the house. But Onslow and Daisy are so lazy when they lounge about the house. Rose at one point decides to tidy the house herself. She soon changes her mind and decides to get picked up at Hyacinth’s house.
Rose has a new lover (as usual) in Mr. Helliwell. There is also competition for Rose, as Boris makes his first and only on-screen appearance in ‘Keeping Up Appearances’. Boris is Rose’s on-and-off lover in the series. Boris and Mr. Helliwell fight outside Hyacinth’s house when they come to pick up Rose.
There’s also Hyacinth doing one of her musical performances on the piano with singing to entertain and impress Emmet. Hyacinth’s singing is terrible and it gets on Emmet’s nerves. Rose also takes an interest in Emmet for the first time, which would become a running gag for the rest of the TV series.
‘Series 2, Episode 3’ rating – 7/10
