‘Keeping Up Appearances’, Series 2, Episode 7 (TV)

keeping up appearances series 1&2

Please feel free to comment on my review.

This episode has Hyacinth trying to impress Emmet with her singing when he goes to play the piano for the old people at the local church hall. Emmet wants to avoid that since he doesn’t like Hyacinth taking charge. But Elizabeth tells Hyacinth where they’re going since she can’t lie and it goes wrong.

This isn’t really one of my favourite episodes from Series 2 of ‘Keeping Up Appearances’. There’s something lacking from this episode and it was painful to see when Hyacinth was singing badly and being demanding to Emmet as he plays the piano, getting on his nerves. Soon he loses his temper.

In this episode, Richard gets offered early retirement from his place of work. I guess his colleagues don’t want Richard working with them anymore since he gets constantly interrupted by Hyacinth on the telephone at work. Richard is pretty distracted and upset, whilst Hyacinth is overjoyed about it.

Jeremy Gittins and Marion Barron also appear in the episode as the Vicar and his wife. It’s made clear that the Vicar’s wife is easily jealous when he attracts the ladies at his church and she tells them to ‘keep away’ from them. It was funny when he tries to avoid one lady – the Bucket woman.

Rose also recovers from a break-up with one of her gentleman friends and she decides to be converted into a nun, by wearing a black veil and black clothes but still in her mini-skirt. Rose also takes tranquiliser tablets to slow her but it doesn’t lower her hormones as she goes to find the Vicar.

‘Series 2, Episode 7’ rating – 6/10
