‘THE HOTEL INSPECTORS’
Please feel free to comment on my review.
This is a ‘Fawlty Towers’ episode where Basil is at his snobbish worst. When Sybil tells him that there are some hotel inspectors in town, Basil becomes panic-stricken. He eventually assumes that Mr. Hutchinson, one of the hotel guests, is a hotel inspector and starts to treat and pamper him at lunch.
Bernard Cribbins guest stars as Mr. Hutchinson in this episode. This was the first time I saw Bernard Cribbins in anything before seeing him in ‘Doctor Who’. I’ve also met Bernard in real-life at the ‘Cardiff Film and Comic Con’, March 2014. Bernard is marvellous and funny as Mr. Hutchinson in this.
There’s also James Cossins as Mr. Walt in this episode. Mr. Walt is very funny in this episode, especially when he gets moved about from table to table by Manuel and Basil during lunch. I also liked that scene when he tells Basil that the wine’s been corked. He also specialises in vogue motors.
I enjoyed it when in the episode, Basil discovers from Sybil that he specialises in spoons. Basil soon becomes abusive to Mr. Hutchinson, spitting “SPOONS!!!” at him. He also deals with Mr Hutchison’s main course during lunch and they keep mixing it up. Hutchison gets very annoyed when it happens.
Originally, Hutchinson ordered a Spanish omelette for lunch before changing his mind and deciding to have a cheese salad instead. It was funny when Hutchinson goes “OH NO! NO!” when they get the order wrong. Basil soon chokes Hutchinson to stop him complaining. Hutchinson later punches Basil.
‘The Hotel Inspectors’ is a very entertaining ‘Fawlty Towers’ episode that portrays Basil’s snobbish really well. It was funny when Basil kept switching from Mr. Hutchinson and Mr. Walt, believing them to be the hotel inspectors before getting it absolutely wrong. It shows him as this terrible man.
The DVD special features on this episode are as follows. On Disc 1 of ‘Fawlty Towers – The Complete Collection (Remastered)’ DVD, there’s a commentary with producer/director John Howard Davies and there’s a commentary with John Cleese.
‘The Hotel Inspectors’ rating – 8/10
