I enjoyed the second episode of Series 3 of ‘Keeping Up Appearances’. This episode sees Hyacinth and Richard take a trip into the country to search for Iron Age remains. But Richard gets terrified of being up in a tree and complains a lot when Hyacinth tells him to look for Iron Age remains up there.

It was so funny when Richard becomes difficult and Hyacinth seems unconcerned for his safety. It was equally funny when Richard refused to talk to Hyacinth when she tells a hiker that he’s up in a tree. Richard starts getting pretty sarcastic and mischievous with Hyacinth especially as he’s retired.

I liked the scenes that Richard has with Emmet as it shows their developing friendship during the series, which wasn’t shown a lot in Series 2. It was very funny in the scene where Hyacinth offers Elizabeth a biscuit during a cup of tea as she keeps passing plates to and fro whilst in the living room.

Also in the episode, Rose has recently been dumped and dresses up with a veil over a black negligee. Rose also phones up for Jeremy Gittins as the Vicar when she locks herself up in her room. Onslow and Daisy drive over to Hyacinth’s to tell her this and soon Hyacinth and Richard come to help them.

It was pretty amusing when Richard goes up the ladder to see if Rose is still in her bedroom and eventually falls from it. Richard is badly injured, but Hyacinth doesn’t seem concerned as she’s worried he fell in an undignified manner. Eventually the Vicar runs away once he sees a scanty Rose.

‘Series 3, Episode 2’ rating – 8/10
