SERIES 3, EPISODE 6

keeping up appearances s3e6

In this episode, Hyacinth is about to go off to an art expedition with Richard joining her. But her plans get ruined when her Daddy is about to go off to join the French foreign legion. Hyacinth is determined to get Daddy back, so she and Richard get off in the car to ‘head for France’ to find him.

Now this episode from its title had the promise of Hyacinth actually going to an art expedition. It would have been nice to have seen how Hyacinth behaved during an art expedition. But sadly this episode wasn’t about that. It focused on the story of Daddy joining the French foreign legion instead.

But there are some good things to enjoy from this episode. Firstly, Rose has a new boyfriend called Mr. Finchley and they both go off to find Daddy in his van. But the sound speakers on the van get accidentally switched on. Rose and Finchley’s romantic endeavours get overheard without realising.

Eventually Hyacinth finds Daddy waiting outside the house of Mrs. Clayton, holding a sign saying “If you love me, let me know”. It was so funny when Hyacinth and Richard drive Daddy back home in the car to Onslow’s house that people see the sign and they ‘let’ Hyacinth know that they love her.

In this episode, it gets revealed that Hyacinth is a prude when she becomes embarrassed by seeing art pictures of nudes in a book that Richard is reading. It was amusing and annoying when Richard suggests going to find Daddy at Mrs. Clayton’s and Hyacinth ignores him before suggesting it herself.

‘Series 3, Episode 6’ rating – 7/10
