‘AN OYSTER STEW’ (MMPR)
Please feel free to comment on my review.
This is the final episode for Season 1 in ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers’. ‘An Oyster Stew’ is not the greatest finale to end the first season of ‘Power Rangers’. But it’s decent enough. In this episode, Zack wants to impress Angela by buying a special present of pearl earrings for her birthday as well as dinner.
Yeah Zack’s still going after Angela in this episode. Angela still doesn’t seem to be taken with him, which is odd considering how impressive he was in ‘Fowl Play’. Oh by the way, after this episode, Angela is never seen or mentioned again. Yeah, this is Angela’s final TV appearance in ‘Power Rangers’.
Zack manages to persuade Angela to take her out to dinner for her birthday by suggesting that Tommy and Kimberly accompany them too. All he needs to do now is find a pair of pearl earrings to give to Angela as a present. Personally I would’ve preferred giving chocolates. Pearl earrings seems extreme.
But Rita Repulsa causes trouble by getting Zack to give to Angela the Pearls of Stillness. How is this done? Well, Zack comes across strange hustler at the park, who gives him a pair of pearl earrings real cheap. But who is this hustler? Why, he’s a Putty of course! Wow! Putties must be so good at disguises.
At the dinner with Zack, Angela, Tommy and Kimberly they go to this French restaurant where there’s this snooty French waiter serving them. They also have an opera singer singing in the background, who sounds terrible in my opinion, and they have Bulk and Skull providing a music guitar duo for them.
Yeah, what is it about Bulk and Skull that they get everywhere wherever the Power Rangers go in their normal lives? Zack gives Angela the Pearls of Stillness and it freezes everyone in sight including the Power Rangers. Thankfully though, Tommy and Zack are unaffected and they go off to stop a monster.
The monster in this episode is the Oysterizer. Tommy and Zack have to fight it in order to break the spell from the Pearls of Stillness. Thankfully it works and the Rangers defeat the Oysterizer with their Zords underwater, which is impressive. Zack also gets to sing for Angela at the end with Bulk and Skull.
Season 1 of ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers’ has been great to watch. It’s pretty long for 60 episodes in total, but each episode has been fun to watch despite some bizarre moments and its campy style. I liked the Green Ranger story with Tommy occurring in the season. I look forward to see Season 2 next.
