‘Enter…The Lizzinator’ (MMPR) (TV)

Please feel free to comment on my review.

In this ‘Power Rangers’ episode, we get to meet Kimberly’s cousin, Kelly. It’s nice when ‘Power Rangers’ does do some character-focused episodes featuring family members of the Power Rangers team. In this, Kelly is trying to get into the junior high cheerleading squad at the Angel Grove Youth Center.

Kelly however doesn’t feel confident in being a cheerleader but Kimberly and Tommy keep on encouraging her to keep on practising. Apparently Kelly seems to be comparing herself to Kimberly who she greatly admires. Kimberly tells Kelly not to compare herself to her as she’s not always perfect.

Rita meanwhile takes advantage of Kelly’s lack of confidence by kidnapping her to lure the Rangers into a battle with her latest monster. This happens to be the invincible Lizzinator…and boy does he sound campy! Apparently the Lizzinator is meant to be a parody of action star Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Lizzinator even has a fake Austrian accent to match the tones of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s voice. I’m surprised they didn’t use puns like Mr. Freeze in ‘Batman & Robin’ for the Lizzinator, though that would be welcome for this. In fact, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze should be in ‘Power Rangers’.

And if you haven’t spotted it, the Lizzinator is pun on ‘Terminator’. Get it? Yeah it sounds ridiculous and silly anyway. Jason as the Red Ranger tries to have a good at fighting the Lizzinator when he collects something for Ernie. But the Lizzinator is too powerful for Jason as he finds it too easy to fight.

Eventually the six Rangers including Tommy as the Green Ranger go off as a team to fight the Lizzinator. They soon fight the Lizzinator in giant form with their Dino Megazord and Dragonzord, which does get tense early on in the fight. Soon the Lizzinator is defeated and our heroes rescue Kelly.

In fact, Kelly manages to save herself by tricking her captors Squatt and Baboo into doing some cheerleading. This works as the two get tired and soon retreat back to Rita’s palace. They’re stupid. Kelly also gains her confidence in cheerleading and even outwits Bulk and Skull who appear at the end.
