‘Itsy Bitsy Spider’ (MMPR) (TV)

Please feel free to comment on my review.

This is an episode for Zach the Black Power Ranger. If ‘High Five’ was an episode about Trini overcoming her fear of heights, this episode is about Zach overcoming his fear of spiders. Now this is something interesting to discover. I didn’t think Zach would be afraid of anything, especially spiders.

The episode begins with Trini and Billy trying to get signatures at school to save the Spirit Statue in Angel Grove. Bulk and Skull soon cause trouble when they open up and unleash the containers full of insects onto Trini and Billy’s audience. How come these two bullies become such idiots to do that?!

Next day, Bulk and Skull bully the teens even further when Billy is showing his pet mouse…oh I’m sorry, assistant…named Jack to the others. The prank goes haywire when the mouse crawls up Skull’s leg. It was so funny to watch and eventually Billy does get his mouse back from Bulk and Skull.

Meanwhile, Squatt and Baboo steal the Spirit Statue with some Putties helping them. Finster creates a new monster for Rita Repulsa called Spidertron before it’s sent to hide inside a duplicate of the Spirit Statue put into the Angel Grove Park. It also has moths that let off sleeping powder on victims.

Zach discovers the Spirit Statue’s duplicity whilst he’s doing a hip hop kido class for his students who are put to sleep by the moths. Spidertron soon reveals himself and Zach morphs into the Black Ranger to destroy the statue. From here, Zach faces his arachnophobia as he fights evil Spidertron.

There’s a climactic battle between the Dino Megazord and Spidertron, before the Rangers disassemble their Zords and fight against him including Zach in his Mastodon. Tommy/Green soon turns up as he and the Rangers defeat Spidertron by merging the Zords to be the Dragon Megazord.

‘Itsy Bitsy Spider’ is another enjoyable ‘Power Rangers’ episode from the ‘Mighty Morphin’ series. It’s another filler episode but it explores Zach’s character in an interesting way. Despite Zach saying he’s overcome his fear of spiders at the end, Tommy puts a fake spider on his shoulder to joke on him. 😀
