Hallo, Tim. I always joke that I’m the biggest Sarah Sutton fan in the western hemisphere, But I suppose I should say “the Americas” since Cardiff is west of Greenwich.
I daresay you and I are probably the only two people who have done a Nyssa marathon. (I even found a copy of Jarillion Mercy.) You have me beat, though, as I have missed the comics and a few books (I tried “The Asylum” but couldn’t get far due to the painful mischaracterization.) And I still need to carve out time to listen to this year’s trilogy with Janet and Peter! Especially since it looks like Sarah gets to be evil again.
I don’t see those three as often as you do, but they’re coming to Los Angeles in February, so I get to drive instead of flying 5 to 9 hours to visit them for a change. My turn to pester Sarah! She is so sweet and patient with us. Have you seen her watercolors? Sarah is not like Nyssa in other respects, but her artistic style fits Traken perfectly!
Nice job with the timeline. I have an Excel spreadsheet where I try to estimate how long Nyssa traveled with the Doctor between Time-flight and Arc, because she definitely seems older in season 20. How much older? At this point I’ve accounted for at least 3 years, thanks to Brewster stranding them, “Autumn” and “Doing Time”. And that’s not counting the Interplanetarian, because I don’t know what to do with the fact that it sounds like Nyssa has been there for many years… sort of.
*lobs a chicken at you and runs*

Hi Ellen.
Thanks for dropping a line. 😀
I’ve not heard the latest Nyssa audios from Big Finish yet. I hope to listen to ‘The Second Oldest Question’ soon before I listen to the latest Big Finish audio trilogy which I’m waiting to be completed with all three CDs out by November. I’m looking forward to hearing them so that I can review them on my blog for my next mini ‘Nyssa Challenge’ review season in December. I have it all planned out and hope to have it fulfiled before Christmas comes.
Yeah ‘Asylum’ wasn’t anything special, was it? I’ve read it once all the way through and I was disappointed by Nyssa’s characterisation. I’m thankful BF haven’t adopted Nyssa’s characterization from ‘Asylum’. I’m sure there’s plenty more Nyssa stories I haven’t delved into yet, especially in the Short Trips collections. Hopefully I’ll look at them when I come to revisiting ‘The Nyssa Challenge’ sometime soon in 2021. Yeah, I’ve planned that already. 😀
Hope you’ll enjoy seeing Peter, Sarah, Janet and Mark at ‘Gallifrey One’ in LA next year. It looks pretty exciting. I’d come along if it wasn’t so far away from where I live and if the event wasn’t sold out. 😀 I wait patiently for the next comic con/convention Sarah attends next which I hope will be soon. She’s very lovely to meet at conventions and I’m glad to be friends with her. I have seen her watercolours, yes. They’re very impressive! 🙂
Very pleased you like my timeline for Nyssa. I try my best to keep it updated every so often. Sarah finds my timelines very useful when I give her an updated version at every convention I see her at. I’m pleased she likes them and it’s good my ‘Doctor Who’ timelines have been helpful to those who visit my blog.
Thanks for the chicken. (?!) Is this a reference to ‘The Second Oldest Question’ or something? 😀
Many thanks
Tim. 🙂

Yes, the chicken is from The Second Oldest Question. And I’ll be going to Gallifrey One, since Los Angeles is only a 45 minute drive for me. That’s my very favorite TARDIS crew now, as all four of them play off of each other so well.
Gallifrey One tickets are so hard to get. They opened up another batch ast month, but I’m sure those are sold out too now. And I know what a challenge it is flying overseas. I’ve only done it once to see Sarah for the first time.
I get to surprise her at Gally with a replica cast from Nyssa’s brooch by Mark Barton, who made a few extras while working at the old Longleat exhibit. I won’t make the rest of the costume, because I couldn’t do her justice, but there’s usually a cocktail party with the guests at Gally, so I can wear with a nice scarf the way Sarah does. It’s a lovely art deco piece.
Cheers! We’ll probably cross paths sooner or later, perhaps the next time I’ve saved up for a UK convention.

I thought it was from the Second Oldest Question. 😀
I’m sure Sarah will like the replica cast of Nyssa’s brooch when you see her.
That’ll be nice that. Hope to see you at a UK convention soon.
Tim. 🙂
