The Eighth Doctor’s Audio Adventure with Izzy

Jemima Rooper in ‘The Company of Friends: Izzy’s Story’.
The third story of ‘The Company of Friends’ is ‘Izzy’s Story’ by Alan Barnes. It stars Jemima Rooper as Izzy Sinclair with Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor. I thrilled to hear Jemima Rooper as Izzy in this episode, since I knew her for playing George from ‘The Famous Five’ TV series, made back in the 1990s.
Izzy Sinclar is a companion from the comic book adventures with the Eighth Doctor. Izzy is a teenage sci-fi geek from Stockbridge village, who made her first appearance in the comic story, ‘Endgame’. In this tale, Izzy tries to get the last issue of the ‘Aggrotron!’ comic series from some pretty arty aliens.

and it’s Julie Cox as Mary Shelley on the right.
Hearing Jemima Rooper as a spunky, cool companion for the Eighth Doctor was a pleasure to hear. Sometimes she gets a bit over-excited and too enthusiastic when trying to get this ‘Aggrotron’ comic, but I enjoyed hearing her in this. I’d like to hear more audio stories with Jemima as Izzy by Big Finish.
I was thrilled to hear Izzy was a fan of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’, since that’s something I can find in common with her. I have also read the comic book stories of the Eighth Doctor and Izzy in two graphic novels. This was after I heard ‘Izzy’s Story’ as I wanted to find out what the comics were like.
I admit the idea of a comic featuring characters that turn out to be real sounds far-fetched. That’s only because it’s rushed in time to tell the story in one single episode. Maybe if this was a four-parter, the concept could be appreciated more. I like how some of the episode’s set in Stockbridge.

Again it’s a good story but it crams to much in for it’s short running time, maybe if this had been a 4 disc set with each story a hour in length would have worked in the story’s favour.

Yeah I think it works better if each of the four stories were an hour in length and that ‘The Company of Friends’ was a 4-disc set. I wish we had more stories with Fitz and Izzy in ‘Doctor Who’ with Paul McGann.
Tim. 🙂
