I did put together a timeline history for Doctor Who (original canon), at least for Earth, for a simple Working Continuity Guide to correct the endless claims of continuity breaks in the original. A key detail I find is that the only reliable source is the programme itself. The BBC couldn’t even get the story titles right for their first attempt at an episode guide, the Discontinuity guide is a ludicrous failure of comprehension. But that requires going through over 150 odd stories. Plus most stories are not clearly dated, and some such as Magnus Greels 51st century may be from an alternate universe.

Putting all of the alternative versions together I find only emphasises their incompatibility. You start to see a pattern resembling the map of Castrovalva. There is also the important point that in the pure fantasy versions (Marvel comics, NA and MA, BF 2005 remake), you can’t write out a timeline as the timeline destroys itself as a part of the story. By the time you reach the end of the timeline, the beginning has been scrubbed! Which means so should the ending, so maybe it should be a blank page.

I once counted out over twenty different Doctor Who versions in their own narratives, Original canon, Dr Who and the Invasion from Space, Annuals, Novelisations, TV Comic and TV Action, Sky Ray rocket cards, Dalek annuals, Aaru films, TV21 Dalek strips, Gold Key movie adaptation, BBC schools audio, The Pescatons, Marvel comics, the Turgids comic ad for TARDIS Tuner radio, adverts for lollies, Slipback audio, Virgin New/Missing Adventures, Barry Letts audios, Big Finish, 2005 remake/reworking, it’s comic versions and books, plus tons of other fan fiction without BBC copyright.

The end result should look more like a multiverse, except that multiverses can only include possible patterns of events, not impossible ones as in 2005 BF etc.
