‘Dawn of the Dwaxi’, Part Three, Chapter 12

12. Trap At The Glass & Hound

SCENE #134 – INT – MAIN BAR, GLASS & HOUND – DAY, EVENING
Later that evening at the Glass & Hound pub, everybody enjoys themselves in the main bar. They have pints and glasses of bitter whilst chatting. A lively atmosphere ensues with sixties music in the background. Suddenly, the door bursts open and a group of thugs enter, led by Rick and Keith. The lively atmosphere dies down once the locals see the mods, rockers and teddy boys enter, but the music still plays in the background.

KEITH
(cruelly) “What a pathetic bunch of losers we’ve got in here?!”

RICK
(jeers) “Yeah! Sad, stupid bunch of losers!” (shouts) “Get out!!! Get out all of you!!!”

No response as everyone seems confused and unsettled.

RICK
(shouts) “‘Ere! You lot heard me?! Get on your bikes!!!”

KEITH
(taunts) “Oldies and dimwits! Perhaps we’d better make them move!” (shouts; to thugs) “Hey boys! Have your fun!”

Immediately, the thugs start causing trouble by smashing glasses; throwing bottles and breaking glass windows to terrify the locals. Just then, Alexandra enters.

ALEXANDRA
“Sorry about that, everyone. I had to sort out…” (realises; cries) “Hey! What are you lot doing ruining my pub?!”

The thugs ignore Alexandra, as they continue smashing the place up.

ALEXANDRA
(shouts; shocked) “You’re spoiling my paintings! What are you doing?!”

Some boys then approach the till, open it and start stealing cash. Alexandra immediately runs over to stop them.

ALEXANDRA
(cries) “Hey! Leave my dosh alone!”

But Alexandra doesn’t get anywhere as she has her head pulled back by Rick onto the bar.

ALEXANDRA
(shrieks; in pain) “Let go of me! Let go of my head!”

KEITH
“I don’t think so, you little witch!”

RICK
(taunts) “You’re the barmaid, aren’t you?!”

ALEXANDRA
(pained) “I’m not a barmaid, you loser.”

RICK
“You can’t throw us out! We do what we like! We make trouble!!!”

An ordinary man at the pub then approaches Rick and Keith and tries to save Alexandra.

MAN AT PUB
(cries) “I say! Leave the lassie alone! She’s a married woman!”

Keith immediately pushes the man off against a table in a violent manner, knocking some glass over. The other locals become terrified.

KEITH
“Back off, old man!”

RICK
(shouts; to everyone) “Don’t make us beat you all up! You get yourselves cracked!!!”

With the locals terrified, Keith turns to Alexandra, held roughly by Rick. Keith pulls Alexandra’s face towards him.

KEITH
(threateningly) “Just tell us one thing, woman! Are you serving people drinks?!”

ALEXANDRA
(perplexed) “What do you expect…?”

KEITH
(yells) “Are you serving people drinks?!!!”

Alexandra continues to cry out in pain, whilst she’s being held roughly by Rick and being threatened by Keith. Nyssa then enters, bursting through the door.

NYSSA
(cries) “Stop! Everyone, stop! Don’t touch your drinks! Don’t even drink them!”

RICK
(shouts, to Keith) “Hey, grubby! It’s that girl!”

KEITH
“So it is!”

NYSSA
(realises) “Oh no! Not you two!”

RICK
(shouts) “Stop her! Grab hold of her!”

Nyssa tries to run away, but is immediately caught and held roughly by two thugs. She cries out in pain whilst being held, struggling to break free.

KEITH
(taunts) “Oh no you don’t, girl. You’re not getting away from us!”

NYSSA
(shouts; to everyone) “All of you! Please listen to me! Your drinks have been planted by a lethal drug! Don’t drink anything! Believe what I say is true!”

RICK
(angrily) “Shut up!!!”

Rick smacks Nyssa in the face, whilst everyone’s aghast and astonished.

MAN AT PUB
(startled; aghast) “‘Ere?! What’s that she said? Our drinks have been drugged?”

Rick approaches the aghast man and spits on him.

RICK
(cruelly) “Shut up, you bozo! Unless you want me to smack your face! With hard iron!!!”

Meanwhile, Alexandra tries to calm everyone down.

ALEXANDRA
(reassuringly) “Alright, everyone. Sorry about all this. Now if you’ll all bear with me for a moment, I’ll take your orders as soon as I get names for people wanting to take part on the quiz night.”

KEITH
(savagely; to Alexandra) “You can shut it too, you dim barmaid!”

ALEXANDRA
“Alright, you lot! This game’s gone on long enough!”

KEITH
(bitterly) “Who said this was a game?”

Keith then pulls out a dagger and raises it to Alexandra’s throat. Alexandra shrieks once held by dagger point.

NYSSA
(warningly) “Alexandra, please. Don’t struggle.”

KEITH
(mockingly; to Alexandra) “This dagger injured your brother, you know! My dagger stabbed in your brother’s side! The brother you hate! Ha, ha!”

ALEXANDRA
(shocked) “You lot are sick! You are sick…”

KEITH
(bitterly) “Shut up, you! You’re nothing!”

Keith then smacks Alexandra in the face.

KEITH
“Take the girl and the barmaid into the back room.”

ALEXANDRA
(protests) “I’m not a barmaid!”

NYSSA
“Alexandra, don’t struggle. They’ll kill you instantly.”

ALEXANDRA
(angrily; accusingly; to Nyssa) “This is your fault! This is all you and Billy’s fault!”

KEITH
(savagely) “Take them in the back I say!!! We’ll sort them out later!”

RICK
(to Nyssa; Alexandra) “Come on, you two! Get in there!”

Rick and a few other boys push Nyssa and Alexandra into the back room, shutting the door on them. Meanwhile, Keith addresses the locals in the pub.

KEITH
“Now everyone! Drink up!”

MAN AT PUB
(protests) “You can’t ask us…”

KEITH
(shouts) “Drink up I say!!!”

Being threatened, everyone unwillingly drinks up. Keith then laughs mockingly at them.

KEITH
(laughs) “That’s right! Drink up your drinks! Then you can suffer morbidly!!!”

Keith keep on laughing, whilst everyone’s aghast.

SCENE #135 – INT – MORGUE, CHURCHWOOD HOSPITAL – DAY, EVENING
Back at Churchwood Hospital, the Doctor, Constable Wyatt and Bruce observe Mrs. Pratt’s corpse being brought in and stored into the hospital morgue.

WYATT
(sympathetically) “Poor old woman. An annoying hard person, but still. A terrible way to die like that.”

BRUCE
“‘Little Miss Nasty’ they called her. The demon woman.”

WYATT
“Yes well, that’s enough of that, Simmons. Let’s have a little respect, shall we?”

DOCTOR
“I wonder how this happened to her.”

WYATT
“My patrol said that she was found shot to death over a hundred times. In fact, in the same way as…”

DOCTOR
(grimly; finishes) “The same way as Ryan Donner and John Graham were found dead.”

WYATT
“Well, yes.”

DOCTOR
(grimly) “Dwaxi. They spread so much violence they even have to spread it in someone’s house.”

BRUCE
“Dwaxi?”

WYATT
“You know who killed Mrs. Pratt then.”

DOCTOR
(seriously) “Constable, these atrocious murders; street fights; pub brawls; all those drug smuggling activities. They’ve been carried out by an empire of super-advanced thugs.”

BRUCE
“Super-advanced thugs?”

WYATT
(impatiently) “Oh confound it, Doctor! Will you stop being so nonsensical and talk sense, man!”

BRUCE
“These…” (pronounces incorrectly) “…Dwaxy.”

DOCTOR
“Dwaxi, Bruce.”

BRUCE
“Are they foreign? Like the Soviet Union?”

DOCTOR
“Not exactly. They come from a parallel dimension. A future world via a space-time dimensional rift. It’s been directed here in Cardiff and they’ve been here for a long time.”

WYATT
“You talk absolute dribble, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
“They’ve been responsible for the most heinous crimes ever committed. Not just on this world, but in the entire universe. They don’t even belong here. They’re breaking the fabric of space-time reality at this moment. They contradict the laws of physics.”

WYATT
“You’re quite barmy, aren’t you? All this stress getting Little Miss Simmons cured has…”

BRUCE
(interrupts; realises) “You’re saying that these…super thugs are the ones that got the ball rolling for these…gangs, mods, rockers and teddy boys then.”

DOCTOR
“Not exactly, Bruce. But they’ve taken advantage of their culture and put it to their use. They’re manipulative, brutal and completely without conscience. They’ve been waiting for the moment to unleash their terror. For all hell to break loose!”

WYATT
“Why exactly then did they kill Mrs. Pratt?”

DOCTOR
“I don’t know. I just don’t know.” (Pause) “But I do intend to find out.”

BRUCE
(realises) “They’ve been responsible for my sister’s condition, haven’t they?! They drugged her and made her ill.”

DOCTOR
“They’re addicted to drugs, Bruce. The Dwaxi want people to have what they have inside of them. They feed on the drug that gives them nourishment and everlasting agony and rage. And your sister’s going to be a victim of this horrendous conditioning if I don’t find a cure. This would require a miracle.”

WYATT
(bewildered) “I thought this was going to be a simple investigation. You do ramble on, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
(grimly) “Many people will end up like Mrs. Pratt, Constable Wyatt. I have to stop the Dwaxi from killing and hurting so many people.” (Pause) “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to sort out a little remedy for a little girl upstairs. Hopefully I don’t mean to be too late.”

With that, the Doctor heads off to return to where Lizzy is. Meanwhile, Wyatt confers with Bruce.

WYATT
“If you ask me Simmons, that man talks a lot of rot!”

BRUCE
“With respect sir, I don’t think so.”

The morgue chamber that contains Mrs. Pratt’s corpse gets closed up, ready for an autopsy.

SCENE #136 – INT – STOREROOM, GLASS & HOUND – DAY, EVENING
In the storeroom of the Glass & Hound pub, Nyssa and Alexandra are being held hostage by thugs, led by Rick, who watch over them.

ALEXANDRA
(uncomfortable; to Nyssa) “How much longer are they going to keep us waiting?”

NYSSA
“Until their leaders come to interrogate us I expect.”

ALEXANDRA
“Well I’ll have a few words to say to them! Ruining my evening! It’s not fair!”

NYSSA
“I’m afraid you won’t get a word in edgeways with them.”

ALEXANDRA
(accusingly) “I blame you for this! You know that, don’t you?!”

NYSSA
(staggered) “Why blame me? I came to warn you and the others at the pub…”

ALEXANDRA
“If Billy hadn’t come back and brought you and the Doctor, then none of this would have happened!”

NYSSA
“That doesn’t make it our fault! The Dwaxi planned all this before we arrived!”

ALEXANDRA
(angrily) “I still blame you three!”

NYSSA
“Why?” (persistently) “Why?!”

ALEXANDRA
(breaks down) “Because there’s no-one else I can turn my anger on!”

Alexandra begins to sob away, whilst Nyssa watches astonished.

NYSSA
(gradually) “You seem a very insecure person. I wonder what Billy saw in you.”

ALEXANDRA
“Billy himself was insecure, I’m sure of it. Before he met you two.” (Pause) “Who told you about what Billy saw in me anyway?”

NYSSA
(apprehensively) “Sean told us. Told me. He explained that Billy used to have a crush on you long ago.”

ALEXANDRA
(bitterly) “Typical Sean. Always been a loose talker.”

NYSSA
(puzzled) “Is there something you’re ashamed of?”

ALEXANDRA
(bitterly) “Ashamed? Why should I be ashamed? I’m a married woman and run a bar! That’s about as shabby a life as I’m going to get!”

Alexandra becomes agitated and stressed out whilst Nyssa looks her over.

NYSSA
“You found Lizzy when she became ill, didn’t you?”

ALEXANDRA
(bitterly) “Sean was there looking after her. Why don’t you ask him?”

NYSSA
(gradually) “You don’t seem to care about your sister, do you?”

ALEXANDRA
“Care? I’ve cared for my family all my life! Why should I keep caring for them? I want a normal life! My life with my husband! And nobody’s going to stand in my way! You hear me?! Nobody!”

NYSSA
“Isn’t it possible that you might have been responsible for your sister’s condition. Who planted the drug in her lemonade, hypothetically speaking.”

ALEXANDRA
“Are you accusing me for being in league with these drug smugglers?! That I was personally responsible for carelessly neglecting my little sister?!”

NYSSA
“It’s a possibility. You could be a Dwaxi suspect for all I know.”

ALEXANDRA
“I know nothing about these…Dwaxi. I may find my family unbearable at times, but I’m not a murderer. I love my family to bits. I’m worrying about my mum and dad right this minute and where they’ve gone. So how dare you even suggest I had anything to do with this drug smuggling!”

NYSSA
(anxiously) “I wonder where Billy is. He could be in a better position than we are now.”

Nyssa and Alexandra are then interrupted by Rick who steps forward and threatens them.

RICK
(bitterly) “Shut your pretty mouths up, you ladies! Stop your natters and pay attention! Our leaders will be here any minute! So keep quiet, will you!”

Put off by Rick’s threat, Nyssa and Alexandra remain silent.

SCENE #137 – EXT – CHURCHWOOD PARK, CHURCHWOOD STREET – DAY, EVENING
Meanwhile in Churchwood Park, Billy tries to search for Nyssa. He’s been unable to find her.

BILLY
(calls) “Nyssa?! Nyssa, where are you?!” (Pause) “Nyssa?!”

With no response, Billy sighs as he sits down on a bench, tired and frustrated.

BILLY
“I wonder where she could be. She can’t be taking a stroll in the park surely.”

Moment of silence, as Billy thinks. He is about to get up and go before Sean appears in his way.

SEAN
(cheerfully) “Hey, Billy! Fancy meeting you here!”

BILLY
(hurriedly) “Oh Sean, hey! What are you doing here?!”

SEAN
“Nothing much. Just wandering about in the park. Yourself?”

BILLY
“I’m looking for Nyssa. You haven’t seen her by any chance?”

SEAN
(gradually) “Nope. Sorry, mate. Haven’t seen her for a bit.”

BILLY
(hurriedly) “Oh dear.” (Pause) “She must’ve gone to the hospital to find the Doctor. Perhaps I’ll find her there.”

Billy is about to go before Sean stops him.

SEAN
“Whoa, whoa, hey, mate. Don’t be in such a rush. We haven’t had a chance to catch up properly. This is as good a time as any.”

BILLY
“I’d really like to catch up, Sean. But I need to tell Nyssa something.”

SEAN
“But surely that can wait, can’t it? It’s not urgent.”

BILLY
(reluctantly) “Well…”

SEAN
(reassuringly) “It’s not like she’s going to disappear. Come on now! Let’s chat for a bit and then you can find her later. How about that?”

Another moment of silence, as Billy considers this.

BILLY
(gradually) “Alright then. I don’t see why not.”

SEAN
“Super!”

Billy and Sean then sit down on the bench to chat.

SEAN
(gradually) “So, what have you been up to?”

BILLY
“Oh…this and that. Here and there. Everywhere.” (Pause) “Yourself?”

SEAN
“Same here really.” (Pause) “You were big news when you left. When they reported you missing. Many presumed you were dead.”

BILLY
“Oh dear. I didn’t mean to be such a bother.”

SEAN
“So what have you been doing?”

BILLY
“It’s…complicated.”

SEAN
“We’re friends, Billy. It can’t be that big a secret, can it?”

BILLY
(changes subject) “How’s your job going? With your dad?”

SEAN
“Oh it’s going brilliantly. I made fifty stories in one whole year in nineteen sixty-four.”

BILLY
“Last year?”

SEAN
(enthused) “Right! I’ve been to various places in Cardiff to report on ‘the big picture’! I’ve done biscuit company scandals; a water ride catastrophe at the bay; and add to that, I’ve reported on Wales’ Strongest Man…to burn a house down with kids in it. Sheer poetry!”

BILLY
(laughs) “You’re making this up, aren’t you?”

SEAN
“Yeah. It’s mostly boring around here. Can’t blame a guy for exaggerating.”

Billy and Sean laugh.

BILLY
“Do you get to hear much from school mates who’ve moved on?”

SEAN
“Yeah. Did you know Emily Cliff won a double bingo prize of two hundred pounds last year?”

BILLY
(astonished) “Two hundred pounds?!”

SEAN
“And…she’s got herself a new Spanish villa in Barcelona!”

BILLY
(amazed) “That’s wonderful!”

SEAN
“Also…Jane Pembroke got married!”

BILLY
“What lovely Jane?”

SEAN
“Yeah. To Dylan Rees.”

BILLY
(astonished) “No! But that’s brilliant. I knew those two were meant for each other! When were they married?”

SEAN
“Four months after you left. It was hidden behind closed doors.”

BILLY
“Was that before you got married?”

SEAN
“Yeah.” (Pause) “They had a much better wedding reception than Alexandra and I had. They certainly are a happy couple.”

Another moment of silence.

BILLY
(reassuringly) “Sean, I’m very pleased for you. It’s good to know that you and Alexandra are happy together.”

SEAN
(laughs; wryly) “Happy?! It’s not what I’d call it. Endless torture is what I call it.”

BILLY
(puzzled) “I…I don’t understand.”

SEAN
“She’s a witch, Billy. An unfeeling…witch.” (Pause) “You’re lucky, Billy. You’ve had a lucky escape.”

BILLY
“Sean, don’t.”

SEAN
“She’s having a baby you know.”

BILLY
(surprised) “A baby!” (Pause) “Oh…that’s good. Isn’t it?”

SEAN
“Depends how you look at it. Somehow I think it’s bad. I say that because of the mother looking after it.”

Sean then stands up from the bench and steps away from it. Billy watches Sean, puzzled.

SEAN
“Ever thought of buying a gun, Billy?”

BILLY
(startled) “A gun? What kind of question is that?!”

SEAN
(coldly) “They’re easy to get you know. Easy to use too.”

Sean makes out he’s holding a gun in his hand. Billy stands up to watch.

SEAN
“You hold it nice and easy like this.” (Pause) “I have considered it. I’ve contemplated whether to shoot my wife in cold blood.”

BILLY
(appalled) “You can’t be serious!”

SEAN
“Why not?” (Pause; coldly) “It’s not hard getting a gun. You hold it like this. You lay your finger to pull the trigger. Easy things to pull – triggers.” (Pause) “With one aim…on target…and…bang…bang…BANG!!! And the culprit’s dead.” (Pause) “Good night. God bless.”

BILLY
(agitated) “Sean, stop it! That’s enough, do you hear?! Just stop it, will you!”

Moment of silence. Sean then laughs out loud amused.

SEAN
(laughs) “Easy, Billy mate. I was only joking.”

Billy becomes silent, saying nothing and being unnerved.

SEAN
(surprised) “You used to like my jokes, Billy. When I told you I was mucking around, you’d laugh it off. What’s come over you?”

Another moment of silence.

BILLY
“I’m sorry, Sean. I have to find Nyssa and see she’s alright.”

SEAN
“Actually Billy, Nyssa isn’t at the hospital. She’s back at the Glass and Hound with my wife.”

BILLY
(surprised) “What?! Why didn’t you tell me about this before?”

SEAN
“I wanted to give you a surprise. Besides, I had an ulterior motive in mind. Alex and I like to invite you and Nyssa to a pub night-out with mates. Friends want to know how you are; where you’ve been and get to meet Nyssa. So I said we should put a knees up or a party gathering.”

BILLY
“What did Nyssa say about this?”

SEAN
“She’s mad about it! Thinks it’s a great idea!”

BILLY
(startled) “Oh! Oh I see.”

SEAN
“She’ll be waiting for you at the pub now.”

BILLY
“Will she?” (Pause) “I must see her. Sean, will you take me to the…?”

SEAN
“Of course. Happy to take you there.”

With that, Sean leads Billy out of the park to make for the Glass & Hound pub.

SCENE #138 – INT – OPS ROOM, DWAXI BASE – DAY, AFTERNOON
In the ops room of the underground Dwaxi base, Lord Ramga enters as he approaches Commander Zurlt. Navigator Bolesh and Instigator Kolgu are also there.

LORD RAMGA
(snappishly) “Well Commander! Get on with it! What do you have to report?!”

ZURLT
“All is going to plan, Lord Ramga! The Directors will be pleased!”

LORD RAMGA
“You don’t say!”

ZURLT
“The local pub Glass and Hound has been infiltrated! The locals are drinking by force! They will not refuse our demands!” (to Bolesh) “Isn’t that right, Bolesh?!”

BOLESH
“Yes, sir. All units are converging on pub area now. The trap is set in motion.”

LORD RAMGA
“The trap?!”

ZURLT
“The trap for our enemies!”

LORD RAMGA
“You have it set out then. The rioting, the looting, the carnage…”

ZURLT
“Yes, Ramga. They will unleash hell in a small street. Chaos will rule!!!”

LORD RAMGA
(shrieks) “Brilliant! That’s brilliant!” (to Kolgu) “Is the Berserker ready?!”

KOLGU
“Yes, my lord. Though it’s hard to keep control of him! He won’t stop biting, kicking and swearing! He wants to fight! We all want to fight!”

LORD RAMGA
“You will fight, you lot! You’ll just have to wait, won’t you!!!”

KOLGU
“Apparently the Berserker won’t agree!”

At that moment, the Berserker enters and charges towards them. The Berserker leaps onto Lords Ramga and lets out a roar of rage and anger.

BERSERKER
(yells) “I WILL NOT BE LEFT OUT! LET ME KICK SOME OLD WOMAN AND OLD MAN! LET ME BEAT THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF KIDS! GIVE ME SOME SMASHING AND PEOPLE TO BEAT UP! I WANT TO FIGHT! FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!!”

Lord Ramga then smacks the Berserker in the face.

LORD RAMGA
(annoyed) “You stupid git!!! Don’t you ever use your brain instead of some blob of boiled-up goo?!!!”

The Berserker fights back and punches Lord Ramga in the jaw. Lord Ramga becomes very angry.

LORD RAMGA
(angrily) “You dare to strike a Dwaxi Lord in the jaw?!”

BERSERKER
(yells) “I WANT TO RIP YOUR TEETH OUT!!!”

Kolgu then intervenes.

KOLGU
“My lord; Berserker! Stop fighting, you two!”

Kolgu gets knocked in the face by the Berserker.

BERSERKER
(yells; savagely) “DON’T YOU TELL ME NOT TO FIGHT, STINKING BURK!!!”

ZURLT
(annoyed) “Berserker, will you save your strength for the fights later on?!”

BERSERKER
(yells; savagely) “NOT ME! NOT EVER! I WILL NOT RUN OUT OF STRENGTH! I RIP PEOPLE’S CHESTS OUT AND PUNCH THEM HARD FOREVER!!!”

ZURLT
(annoyed; to Dwaxi) “Troopers! Take this numskull away!”

A number of Dwaxi troopers grabbed hold of the Berserker and dragged him away. The Berserker is led out, as he struggles to break free and howls angrily. Soon, everything calms down.

ZURLT
“He’s gone now, my lord.”

LORD RAMGA
“Don’t talk to me, Commander! Get some work done! And tell those boys on the street to make a start! The chaos and humiliation of Churchwood Street and its people will begin tonight! Tonight, you hear!!! Tonight!!!”

SCENE #139 – INT – MEDICAL WARD, CHURCHWOOD HOSPITAL – DAY, EVENING
Back in the medical ward of Churchwood Hospital, the Doctor experiments on a cure for Lizzy’s condition. Jenny the nurse passes by.

JENNY
“How are you getting on with that cure, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
“Slowly I’m afraid. I’ve managed to identify the properties that generate the drug’s addictive and infectious effect on people’s bodies. But I can’t synthesise an enzyme that will act against it. It’s taking too long when using these medical samples. Luckily for Lizzy, the drug works slowly for her.”

JENNY
“Is there anything I can do, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
(sighs) “I’m afraid I’m not sure what I’m doing really.”

JENNY
“What exactly is the problem, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
(gradually) “Well, the drug ingredients of Yentias are reminiscent of other lethal drugs that I consider amoral such as ecstasy and cocaine…”

JENNY
“But that’s just…”

DOCTOR
“Yes, I know. It’s just as dangerous. At the moment I’ve managed to identify the harmful effects of Yentias similar to those types of drugs. However, I’m afraid it’s nothing to help us with knowing how to produce a cure for Lizzy.”

JENNY
“I’m afraid I’m not following any of this, Doctor. Explain it again.”

DOCTOR
(uneasily) “The properties in the atmosphere Lizzy’s breathing in that apparatus contain oxygen, but only a small amount. The rest is carbon monoxide, crystalline, tropane vapour and alkaloid.”

JENNY
“But those are common ingredients in cocaine.”

DOCTOR
(grimly) “Precisely. Not one I’d like to put into a little girl’s lungs.” (Pause) “But that disgusting atmosphere she’s breathing in is keeping her alive. And I need to find a way of reversing the effect.”

JENNY
“Surely you can find a way to help her to breathe properly. I might be young and naive, but there must be a treatment against cocaine and ecstasy.”

DOCTOR
“It’s not as easy that I’m afraid, Jenny. At the moment I can provide something to counteract the drug material and atmosphere she has in her body which contains antibacterial treatment including metronidazole and tetracycline.”

JENNY
“What…something that fights against parasitics and periodontal inflammation of nerves.”

DOCTOR
“Yes. Those conditions are common with the drug infection of Yentias. But it’s not enough. There’s something else. Something I’m missing.” (thinks; realises) “Water!”

JENNY
“Water?”

DOCTOR
“Yes of course! I’ve been so silly! The drug reacts against water. I’ve seen it happen to those who take it. Dwaxi troopers are affected by chemical elements containing nitrogen and hydrogen when it touches their skin. Why didn’t I think of this before?!”

JENNY
(puzzled) “Sorry. Not meaning to be dim, but I’m still not sure I’m following what you’re saying, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
“Nothing to worry about, Jenny. I think I know how to make a cure. I just need to do a few more tests for a couple of hours.”

JENNY
(bewildered) “Oh. That’s good!”

Jenny then makes her way to the window whilst the Doctor is about to start work again. As Jenny looks outside, rioting occurs in the street with shouts; screams and yells.

DOCTOR
“I wonder how Nyssa’s getting on at the pub. I hope she’s doing alright with telling everyone not to drink [their…]”

JENNY
(interrupts) “Say, Doctor. Sounds like trouble out here.”

DOCTOR
“Hmm? What do you mean?”

JENNY
“Well come here and take a look.”

The Doctor makes his way over to join Jenny at the window. He looks to see the rioting outside and becomes troubled.

JENNY
“See what I mean?”

DOCTOR
(troubled) “There’s rioting!”

JENNY
“Yes. From those teddy boys; mods and rockers.”

DOCTOR
(troubled) “They seem to be heading off in the east direction. Smashing windows and looting various shops.”

JENNY
(disturbed) “It’s monstrous! Why even do it? They’ll upset and hurt many.”

DOCTOR
(realises) “Oh no!”

JENNY
“What?!”

DOCTOR
“It’s not just mods; rockers and teddy boys! There are some Dwaxi troopers among them!”

JENNY
“Dwaxi troopers?!”

DOCTOR
“Male and female! They’ve got heavy fire arms causing chaos!”

Guns fire and infernos blaze, as the Dwaxi troopers shout, yell and swear in the street.

DWAXI
(chants) “Death is victory! Death is victory! Death is victory! Death is victory! [Death is victory…]”

The Doctor begins to panic and starts to run out.

JENNY
“Doctor, where are you going?!”

DOCTOR
“I have to find Nyssa. And Billy for that matter if he’s with her.” (Pause; thinks) “Is the Glass and Hound in the east direction where the Dwaxi, mods; rockers and teddy boys are heading?”

JENNY
“Yes, I believe it is. About a few miles away.”

DOCTOR
(to Jenny) “Look after Lizzy for me, Jenny! I’ll be back as soon as I can!”

The Doctor is about to run out before turning back to pick up the Yentias drug cartridge from the table.

DOCTOR
“I’m taking this with me. Just in case I might need it. If I’m lucky, I’m hoping to do more tests for Lizzy’s cure on the way.”

JENNY
“Take care of yourself, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
“I will. You take care too.”

With that, the Doctor runs out. Jenny remains to attend to Lizzy.

SCENE #140 – EXT – REAR ENTRANCE, GLASS & HOUND – DAY, EVENING
Meanwhile, Billy and Sean meanwhile arrive at the Glass & Hound. They make for the rear entrance as Sean leads the way speedily.

SEAN
(charismatically) “Come on, Billy! We can’t keep your girlfriend Nyssa waiting.”

BILLY
“Why couldn’t we just go around the front, Sean?”

SEAN
“We want to surprise them, don’t we?” (insistently) “Come on! They’re expecting us inside!”

Sean opens the back door. But before Billy enters, he hears rioting nearby.

BILLY
“Hey, what’s that? Is that somebody fighting nearby?”

SEAN
“Probably some idiot smashing glass. A few blokes having too much.” (insistently) “Come on, Billy! The girls are inside! Don’t hold them up!”

Sean makes Billy go inside, whilst he picks up a metal pole beside him.

SCENE #141 – INT – STOREROOM, GLASS & HOUND – DAY, EVENING
In the storeroom of the Glass & Hound pub, Billy and Sean enter to find Nyssa and Alexandra held captive by Rick and his gang.

BILLY
(astounded) “Nyssa?! Hey, hey what’s going on?!”

Rick then pulls out a dagger towards Billy.

RICK
“Don’t move! Or I’ll slice your girls’ throats.”

NYSSA
(apprehensively) “Billy, please! Don’t do anything heroic for me!”

ALEXANDRA
“Sean, where have you been?!”

RICK
(threateningly, to Billy) “You boy! Move with the girls!”

SEAN
(warningly) “Do as he says, Billy.”

Reluctantly, Billy makes his way over to Nyssa and Alexandra and joins them whilst being threatened by Rick. Billy is reunited with Nyssa as they both hug each other.

NYSSA
(relieved) “Billy, I’m so glad you’re here. I was worried about you.”

BILLY
“Likewise. What’s going on here?”

NYSSA
“It’s a long story.”

BILLY
(apologetically) “Nyssa, I’m dreadfully sorry about earlier. I want to tell you something…”

NYSSA
(interrupts) “Billy, I’m afraid we can’t talk under these circumstances.”

SEAN
(menacingly) “You’re right about that one, Nyssa. It’s not a good time for you two love birds to talk.”

Sean then takes out the metal pole he picked up and aggressively threatens Nyssa, Billy and Alexandra with it.

BILLY
(puzzled) “Hey Sean, what’s got into you?! Where did you get that pole?!”

SEAN
(aggressively) “Stand back! Stand back, all of you!”

ALEXANDRA
(shocked) “What do you think you’re doing, Sean?! What’s got into you?!”

SEAN
(threateningly) “Don’t move, any of you! You wouldn’t like me to use this!”

NYSSA
“Billy, your friend’s behaving rather oddly. He seems to have shifted sides.”

BILLY
(to Sean) “Sean, why are you threatening us with a metal pole?! A metal pole of all things!”

SEAN
(menacingly) “Why? Isn’t it obvious? I’m the bad guy, aren’t I?!”

Sean giggles mischievously whilst Nyssa, Billy and Alexandra are disturbed.

ALEXANDRA
(unimpressed) “Stop playacting Sean and put that pole down! Give it here!”

SEAN
(threateningly) “Keep away from me, Alex! I mean it! I will use this pole on you if you’re not careful!”

ALEXANDRA
“Stop joking and give it here!”

Alexandra approaches him, but Sean immediately smashes up some storage boxes with his metal pole nearby. This breaks some glass bottles in the process.

ALEXANDRA
(shrieks; horrified) “Oh Sean! What in heaven’s name do you think you’re doing?!”

NYSSA
“Alexandra, stay back!”

BILLY
“Yeah Alex, keep away from him!”

Sean continues to smash up storage boxes, ferociously and aggressively. Alexandra looks in horror and utter bewilderment.

ALEXANDRA
(cries; upset) “Stop it, Sean! Stop it!!!”

Sean stops smashing things up and holds the metal pole up against Alexandra’s face.

SEAN
(shouts; angrily) “I warned you, Alexandra! Want me to make another?!”

Alexandra backs away nervously, as she, Nyssa and Billy are astounded by Sean’s abrupt and unexpected hostile behaviour. Sean now holds his metal pole up towards all three of them.

SEAN
(threateningly; yells) “I warned you, lot. I’m being serious! Don’t make me use this again! Unless you really wish to be clubbed to death!!!”

Sean has flipped, lost his sanity threatening Nyssa, Billy & Alexandra who’s pregnant, Sean is beyond contempt he’s got to go Tim lol.

The character of Sean is quite disturbing, he’s cold, calculated & a very angry person, are you sure he & Billy were best mates once?

This has to be one of your most darkest story’s yet my friend, I’m loving it, poor ole Nyssa being tortured & threatened once again lol.

      Hi Simon.

Glad you enjoyed ‘Part Three’ of ‘Dawn of the Dwaxi’.

Sean’s one of my favourite villains in my series of ‘Doctor Who’ stories. I’m glad the things he does are giving you the reactions I expected as you read this story. 😀 What did you make of Billy and Sean’s ‘friendly’ conversation early on in the story? Did you like it when Sean used a club to threaten Nyssa, Billy and Alexandra? 😀

There is a deeper backstory to Sean’s character than you may think. The friendship Billy had with Sean is more in-depth which I explored later on in the series. Does that mean Sean comes back into ‘Doctor Who’ at some point in my Fifth Doctor series? Wait till the end to find out what becomes of Sean. 😀

Very pleased you’re loving ‘Dawn of the Dwaxi’. It is one of the darkest stories I’ve ever written. But it needs to be as far as the Dwaxi are concerned.

Yeah Nyssa does get threatened in this story again, but at least she’s not alone when Billy turns up and when she has some scenes with Alexandra.

Thanks for your comments, Simon. Hope you enjoy ‘Part Four’ next!

      Tim. 🙂

      Hmm.

Well it depends on whether you want to be a fictional character like Billy or be as yourself. It also depends what story you’d like to be in and what monster’s in it.

Last year, I did a story called ‘The Five Doctors At Christmas’ which was my 2017 Advent Calendar. It has a boy character called Simon in it. 😀

      Tim. 🙂

Well u could write me as James Darby, my middle name & my moms maiden name, a wisecracking rogue with a good heart which he hides away as he’s been hurt by a past he can’t quite remember.

That’s actually true as I have no recollection of memories from 1990-92 as I endured so much trauma & had a breakdown it’s only recently I recalled a few memories of that time but it’s very hazy time.

Blimey I’m writing characters now lol, Seans conversation with Billy was chilling because I know his intentions are evil, any man threatens a woman is scum so threatening two is lowest of the low, WHAT Sean may survive this story…NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HE MUST DIE!!! lol.

      Thanks Simon.

James Darby, hey? Hmm. You’ve given me some ideas. It’ll have to be a good story though. I have some story ideas that I’d like to write in future with the Fifth Doctor, Nyssa and Billy. When I can find time to get around to writing them is another matter. But it’s something I’d like to pursue.

Glad you found Sean’s conversation with Billy chilling. I hope you’ll enjoy more of Sean in this next chapter.

      Tim. 🙂
