‘Junglos 4198’, Part Two, Chapter 7

7. ‘Subconscious Thoughts!’

SCENE #59 – EXT – MISTO, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, EVENING
Back in the Misto forest, Lo-Jo and the pirates still hold onto Jason as they interrogate him.

MORG
(viciously) “Where are the boy and girl?! Answer lad, where are they?!”

JASON
(shouts) “I don’t know!”

PIKE
(threateningly) “Where are they, lad?!”

LO-JO
(calmly) “Easy, you idiots! You won’t get answers from the boy like that!”

MORG
“It’s better than not getting any answers at all!”

PIKE
“He’s peached us, remember?!”

LO-JO
“I haven’t forgotten! Now shut up, the pair of you!” (gradually; to Jason) “So, Jason! You found us out then!”

JASON
(disappointed) “I overheard your scheming by accident! I can’t believe you’d kill Mr. Harbork in cold blood!”

LO-JO
“That what’s a pirate’s for, lad. You don’t get mechanical legs like these for nothing!”

Lo-Jo’s cybernetic legs whir as he moves.

ORIO THE PARROT
(squawks) “Yo-ho-yo-ho! A pirate’s life for me!” (squawks) “A pirate’s life for me!”

Lo-Jo, Morg and Pike laugh heartily.

JASON
(anxious) “Who are you? What is it you want?”

LO-JO
“Ah now that a very proper question, lad. We are the Brotherhood!”

JASON
(puzzled) “Brotherhood? What Brotherhood?”

LO-JO
(proudly) “The noble Brotherhood of Orio Flinax! We are the remaining followers of Orio’s crew who seek to recover the treasure buried in Ungol! We are the descendants!”

JASON
(flabbergasted) “The Brotherhood of Orio Flinax?!” (Pause) “But that’s a myth! A legend!”

LO-JO
“No, Jason! The Brotherhood is true! We wouldn’t be standing here today if it weren’t true! We are the sole descendants of the crew who joined Orio Flinax to this cursed planet to bury that dratted treasure! Even though the crew was killed by Orio himself!”

Orio the Parrot squawks angrily.

LO-JO
“Not you, Orio! Not you!”

Orio the Parrot eventually calms down, squawking.

JASON
“I don’t believe it! I don’t believe a word you say!”

MORG
(crudely) “Believe it, boy! My mother was a pirate whilst my father was an honest space pilot! I could have been a surgeon as I like taking things apart! But the mark of Orio on my back reminded me I was destined for better things!”

PIKE
“And me…I could have been a lawyer, but the tattoo marked on my back signifies the membership of Orio and wouldn’t permit it! Would you like to see the tattoo on my back?”

JASON
(apprehensively) “No thank you, Mr. Pike!”

LO-JO
(dignified) “So you see, Jason lad! We did what we did in order to achieve what we set out to do! To achieve the mission and objective of our great ancestry pirate captain!”

JASON
“To recover the treasure from the tower?”

LO-JO
“That is a finer living for a pirate! To obtain gold and wealth, whatever it may be!”

JASON
“Really.” (Pause; determined) “Well you won’t get anywhere without the treasure map I’ve got! Or my sword Quasarin!”

Jason immediately pushes Morg and Pike off him, as he takes the treasure map and his sword Quasarin with him. He then runs off into the forest. Morg and Pike recover, very annoyed, whilst Lo-Jo erupts in anger.

MORG
“He pushed us!”

PIKE
“He’s got the map!”

LO-JO
(angrily) “After him, you idiots! I’m not losing that treasure map! Don’t let him escape!”

Pike and Morg run after Jason in the forest. Lo-Jo walks about to and fro, agitated and irritated. His mechanical legs whir as he goes. A few minutes later, Morg and Pike return, exhausted.

LO-JO
(impatient) “Well, where is he?!”

MORG
(exhausted) “Sorry, Lo-Jo! We couldn’t catch him!”

PIKE
(pants) “He…he was too fast!”

LO-JO
(yells) “Numskulls! Buffoons! Why didn’t you chase after him or shoot him down?!”

Morg and Pike stutter and stammer, unable to answer.

PIKE
(stammers) “We…err…we…err…”

MORG
“We ran out of power-packs in our laser pistols, Lo-Jo! That was it!”

PIKE
“Yes! We ran out of power-packs!”

LO-JO
(mockingly) “Oh, we ran out of power-packs!” (Pause) “Pathetic! I’ve never heard such incompetence!”

Moment of silence, as Lo-Jo gets grumpy.

PIKE
“What are we to do now, Lo-Jo?”

MORG
“Yeah! Since that boy’s got the map, how are we going to get to that tower?!”

PIKE
“And how are we going to beat the monster without that boy’s sword?!”

Lo-Jo becomes silent as he thinks.

LO-JO
(chuckles) “No need to worry, me hearties!”

ORIO THE PARROT
(squawks) “No need to worry! No need to worry!” (squawks)

LO-JO
“Shut up, bird!” (to Morg; Pike) “You see lads…we are heading for Edolas the tree-top! There will be others who will want to get to that tree-top. And they will also have a map!”

Morg and Pike takes a long while to realise who also has the map.

SCENE #60 – EXT – TRINAS, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – NIGHT
It is now night-time. Back in Trinas, Nyssa and Billy walk through the forest. They try to find a place for the night. There is a cold wind, as they walk. The night is unsettling and leaves rustle in the trees. They come to a stop under a glade of trees, as they’re very tired.

BILLY
“It’s getting really dark now. We’ll spend the night here.”

NYSSA
“I’ll be grateful for a little sleep. I’ve been so anxious and weak all day.”

BILLY
“How’s your arm now?”

NYSSA
“The infection’s still irritating me! I’ve never been like this before! So frightened! I feel I’ve lost all my confidence!”

BILLY
(reassuringly) “Don’t say that, Nyssa! Don’t give up hope! We’ll find a cure for that illness!” (Pause) “Now! I’ve got the blankets! Let’s lay them out!”

Billy takes out the blankets and lays them out on the ground. Nyssa sits down, sighing away as she suffers from illness.

NYSSA
“How do you know we’ll find a cure, Billy? On a jungle of a planet as this? With no idea where we are?”

BILLY
“We’ll find it! If there’s some medicine or antidote for that bug bite we can find it!” (Pause) “Those savages will know! They put the bug on you!”

NYSSA
(tense) “Do you really think they’d help me, Billy?! After what they did!”

BILLY
(determined) “We can at least try! In any case, if they won’t help…well…” (cheerfully) “…we’ll complain! We’ll rebel against them! Force them to give us the cure!”

NYSSA
“They don’t seem the types that can be easily persuaded!”

BILLY
(jokingly) “Well…we can always get them bananas as a peace offering for starters, can’t we?! If that doesn’t work, we’ll just eat the bananas and they can slip on the skins for us to laugh at.”

NYSSA
(abrupt) “This isn’t funny, Billy! My life’s in danger and all you can do is joke!”

Moment of tense silence. Billy becomes quiet, put off by Nyssa’s abruptness.

NYSSA
(gradually; ashamed) “I’m sorry, Billy! That was unfair of me! I hope you don’t think I’m ungrateful!”

BILLY
(solemnly) “It’s okay. I won’t say anymore if you don’t want me to.”

NYSSA
“I’ve upset you, haven’t I? I’m really sorry, Billy!”

BILLY
“No! You’re fine, Nyssa!” (Pause) “I was only trying to cheer you up. I didn’t want you to be too downhearted with what you’re going through.”

NYSSA
“I know. I’m really grateful for you looking after me!” (Pause) “It’s just so hard to concentrate when worrying about this infection.”

BILLY
“I know.” (Pause) “We’ll sleep on it and then think about what to do in the morning. The infection may have gone by then.”

Billy continues sorting out the blankets, as he positions them on the ground. He unzips the blankets.

NYSSA
“I can’t imagine how we’re going to be able to sleep tonight. That floor’s very uncomfortable!”

BILLY
“Well. It’s not exactly Rotenhend’s hotel. But it’s the best we have to put up with.”

Billy finishes sorting out the blankets on the ground.

BILLY
“Now? Which one do you want? Right or left?”

NYSSA
(thinks) “Right, if that’s okay.”

BILLY
“Yep! I’m happy with that. I’ll take the left blanket.”

With that, Billy settles into the blanket on the left. Nyssa settles into her blanket on the right. Wildlife echoes nearby as they settle into their blankets.

BILLY
“Are you comfortable?”

NYSSA
“As comfortable as I’ll ever be.”

Nyssa becomes silent for a moment. Billy soon notices her anxiety.

BILLY
“What are you thinking about?”

NYSSA
(sighs) “I’m just worried about the Doctor. I wonder if he’s still alive.”

BILLY
“I’m sure he is. You know the Doctor. He could be somewhere close by without us even knowing.”

SCENE #61 – EXT – LESLAK, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – NIGHT
Meanwhile the Doctor and Dynda arrive at a waterfall called Leslak, the waterfall of the west. It is a place between the forests of Misto and Edolas. They stop to settle for the night.

DOCTOR
(chilled) “Definitely has gone cold! I wish I’d brought a sleeping bag from the TARDIS.”

DYNDA
(laughs) “No need, Doctor. I have it all with me.”

Dynda takes off the rucksack she’s carrying on her back and opens it up. She takes out a small box from it. She throws the box to the floor.

DOCTOR
“What is that box?”

DYNDA
(coyly) “Watch and see!”

Dynda then raises her left arm and presses a switch on her wristwatch. The box then open, rises up from the ground and constructs a huge tent out of it.

DYNDA
“Like it?”

DOCTOR
(intrigued) “Impressive! Anything else in that rucksack.”

Dynda rustles through her rucksack.

DYNDA
“Certainly! I’ve got firelighters; pots and pans; rations of food and water. I took all these with me just in case when we were looking for Gun Nett.”

DOCTOR
“And Captain Doromir didn’t check you for it?”

DYNDA
“Oh they did check me for weapons. But luckily they weren’t able to get this stuff.”

DOCTOR
“Well it’s very convenient, Dynda.”

DYNDA
“Now let’s get settled and then we can get some shuteye.”

Dynda goes into the tent, whilst the Doctor paces about outside.

DYNDA
(from inside tent) “There are two bunks here! So I don’t care which one you want because they both look the same!”

DOCTOR
“What is this place?”

DYNDA
(from inside tent) “Hmm? Oh…this is Leslak, waterfall of the west. The other waterfall Lithia, waterfall of the east, is on the other side.”

The Doctor stands at the entrance to the tent, looking out at the waterfall. Dynda then comes out from the tent.

DYNDA
“Everything should be in order.” (Pause) “Do you want me to prepare supper? There’s beef stew I can heat up.”

DOCTOR
“Oh yes. That would be great!”

Dynda goes over to her rucksack to take out the pots and pans to prepare a meal. She takes out the firelighters to light a fire. Very soon, the fire is lit.

DOCTOR
“Do you have any lamps in that rucksack?”

DYNDA
“I have firelighters. Isn’t that enough?”

DOCTOR
“Yes. I suppose they’ll have to do. I was hoping to read that bible with a proper light.”

DYNDA
“The Bible of Junglos? What do you want to read that old thing for? Can’t be that exciting! Just history and religious nonsense.”

DOCTOR
“The least important items on this planet can be vital.” (Pause) “I’m so anxious now to get to that tower.”

DYNDA
“Well when we go through that jungle and get to Edolas, I hope we won’t bump into that pompous idiot Doromir. I’ve had enough of him and his serious ways. And if he and Deletos come and disturb us in our sleep, I hope he won’t listen to our dreams.”

DOCTOR
“Dreams?”

DYNDA
“Oh I didn’t I mention that? This planet has an atmosphere containing psychic dendritis as well as oxygen; nitrogen; hydrogen and helium.”

DOCTOR
“Ah, the elements contained in a hot atmosphere. But…why psychic?”

DYNDA
“Psychic dentritis is common in this atmosphere. Whenever you sleep, your subconscious thoughts are open and your mind speaks out loud when you dream.”

Just then, the Doctor and Dynda are startled as a rustling sound occurs.

DYNDA
“What’s that noise?”

DOCTOR
“Somebody’s coming. Some…thing is approaching.”

DYNDA
(terrified) “It must be an animal. A wild bear. A tiger.”

DOCTOR
“Quickly, Dynda! Have you something I can scare it off with? A fire-like…”

DYNDA
(cries) “Too late! It’s coming!”

Eventually, Jason runs in and appears before them.

DOCTOR
He’s come, you mean.”

JASON
“You! That Doctor! And Miss Dynda!”

Jason then runs off before Dynda stands up to catch him. She grabs him and pushes him to the ground.

DYNDA
(fiercely) “Stay where you are, boy! You’re not going anywhere!”

DOCTOR
“Hold on, Dynda! Leave him alone! He’s not harmful! Get off him!”

JASON
(cries) “Let me go! Let me go, please!”

DOCTOR
(reassuringly) “It’s alright, it’s alright. We’re your friends.”

JASON
“Friends?”

DOCTOR
“Yes! People you can trust! We’re trustworthy!” (to Dynda) “Aren’t we, Dynda?”

JASON
“Your woman’s still holding onto me! Tell her to let me go!”

DOCTOR
“She’s not my woman! But you do have a point!” (to Dynda) “Dynda…?”

DYNDA
(to Jason) “If I let you go boy, will you promise not to run away?”

Moment of tension ensues.

JASON
(reluctantly) “Alright! I promise!”

DYNDA
“Very well.”

Dynda gets off Jason and lets him go. Jason makes no attempt to escape.

DOCTOR
“Splendid!” (to Jason) “Now, I don’t think we’ve introduced ourselves properly! I’m the Doctor and this is Dynda!”

JASON
(hesitatingly) “Jason. My name’s Jason.”

DOCTOR
(cheerfully) “Jason! Very nice to meet you, Jason!” (gently) “Now tell me, what’s seems to be the matter?”

SCENE #62 – EXT – TRINAS, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – NIGHT
Meanwhile, Nyssa has been fast asleep for some time before she wakes up. She hears Billy talking out loud, as she slowly comes round out of her sleep to this.

BILLY (V’O)
(dreamily) “Nyssa? Nyssa?”

NYSSA
“Billy? Is that you? Are you awake?”

BILLY (V’O)
(dreamily; panics) “Nyssa! Nyssa, where are you?”

As Nyssa comes round, she looks over at Billy.

BILLY (V’O)
(dreamily, panics) “Nyssa?! Nyssa?!”

NYSSA
“Billy, I’m here! I’m right here beside you! Is something wrong?”

BILLY (V’O)
(dreamily) “Nyssa?! Nyssa, please talk to me!”

NYSSA
(bewildered) “I am talking to you, Billy! Why are you still…”? (Pause) “Wait a minute.”

She comes round to Billy’s side to find out why he’s in such a state.

NYSSA
(astonished) “You’re still sleeping, Billy! You haven’t woken up!”

BILLY (V’O)
(dreamily) “Nyssa! Please, Nyssa!”

NYSSA
(astonished) “Yet I can still hear you.” (Pause) “I think…yes…I can hear your thoughts! Your subconscious thoughts!”

BILLY (V’O)
(dreamily) “Nyssa, please! I want to find you! Please help me!”

NYSSA
(to herself) “He’s dreaming. His subconscious thoughts have been psychically processed by the atmosphere as he sleeps. I wonder how that works” (Pause) “And…why is he dreaming about me?”

BILLY (V’O)
(dreamily) “Nyssa! Please! I want to tell you something!”

NYSSA
“I better wake him up. I shouldn’t really be listening [to his…”]

BILLY (V’O)
(dreamily) “I want you, Nyssa! I…I love you!”

NYSSA
“What?”

BILLY (V’O)
(dreamily) “I love you, Nyssa! I love you so much!”

Billy breathes deeply as he rolls onto his back, sighing happily away.

BILLY (V’O)
(dreamily) “I want to kiss you, Nyssa. Yes…let me kiss you please!”

Nyssa listens to Billy as he sleeps, feeling uncomfortable.

NYSSA
(uncomfortable) “Oh no. Oh dear.”

SCENE #63 – EXT – ALESKI, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – NIGHT
Back at the Gren village in Aleski, the Gren savages have a party as they celebrate and chant gloriously to praise their new god, the Mud Man.

GREN
(chants) “Praise be to Mud Man! Praise be to Mud Man! Praise be to Mud Man! Praise be to Mud Man! Praise be [to Mud Man…”]

As the Gren chant away, the Mud Man aka Dr. Gun Nett turns aside to speak to Salvador close by.

DR. NETT
(aside; to Salvador) “What do I say to them? How do I convince them I am their god?!”

SALVADOR (V’O)
“You do not need to convince them that you are their god. Just ask them to do what you ask and it shall be done for you.” (Pause) “You have to gain their cooperation in order for them to serve you. Then you will have a stronger force to destroy the Doctor!”

DR. NETT
(aside; to Salvador) “But what shall I ask them to do?”

SALVADOR (V’O)
“Listen to what I say! Then you shall know what to tell them!”

Eventually, the Mud Man turns to his followers as they keep on chanting and praising him. The Mud Man tries to call their attention and Ja-Ara notices this.

GREN
(chants) “Praise be to Mud Man! Praise be to Mud Man! Praise be [to Mud Man…”]

JA-ARA
(interrupts; shouts) “Shut up, you morons! The Mud Man wants to speak!”

Everybody quietens down, as they listen to the Mud Man.

DR. NETT
“Hear me, children of Gren. I give you…my mud!”

Nett then turns his chest into mud. Out from his chest shoots bullets of mud, which splatters onto everybody’s faces and bodies. The Gren savages cheer, as they rub the mud all over their bodies.

JOR-ELIV
(shouts) “Thank you, Mud Man! We delight in your gift to us!”

JA-ARA
(cheers) “Yes! We shall praise you always!”

DR. NETT
“That’s good! Because there’s more mud where that came from! If you do something for me, that is!”

ANTUSS
(sharply) “What do you ask of us, our god?”

DR. NETT
“There is a man out there, in that jungle, who wants to kill the people of Gren!”

Everybody boos and hisses once they hear the Mud Man telling them this. Some of the Gren gasp in shock.

JA-ARA
“What are we to do, Mud Man?”

DR. NETT
“This man I speak of, is making his way to Ungol where the great treasure of Orio Flinax is kept.”

Everyone mutters, confused.

JOR-ELIV
(gloats) “Bah! That chest of ball-balls! That’s just trash!”

DR. NETT
“Be that as it may, this villain attempts to rob the treasure from the Bullor!”

ELAR-JOM
“He won’t get his hands on that treasure! The Guardians keep the tower well in order more than the Bullor does!”

DR. NETT
“Which is why we must stop the Doctor! For the Doctor is far more powerful than any Guardian or mighty beast!”

Dry mocking laughter emanates from the crowd of Gren savages.

JOR-ELIV
“How are we to get this man, great one? This Doctor?”

DR. NETT
“There is a girl out there in the jungle. A friend of the Doctor’s.”

SALVADOR (V’O)
(quietly; to Dr. Nett) “She will be in the forests of Dar by tomorrow! Tell them that, Nett! It’s vitally important!”

DR. NETT
“The girl will be in the forests of Dar by tomorrow! Send your finest warriors to capture her!”

Some of the Gren savages cheer.

DR. NETT
(shouts) “Once the girl has been captured, she will be tortured and prepared for sacrifice! I myself will take some of you with me to the kingdom of Edolas. For the Doctor will be there on his journey. We shall let the Doctor know that we will kill his friend to make him suffer! That will surely make him weak and we will have our chance to destroy him…forever!” (Pause) “Do these things for me…and then you shall have the mud you desire!”

The Gren savages howl and chant wildly, as they applaud the Mud Man’s plan.

JA-ARA
(cries) “Excellent plan, Mud Man!”

Ja-Ara turns to her Gren people, as she bawls out orders.

JA-ARA
(bawls) “I shall take some of my hunters deep into the jungle and we shall be at Dar to capture this girl! Then we will bring her back here to torture her!”

The Gren roar in applause.

ELAR-JOM
(shouts; protests) “No! This is not how we do things! Since when has a man made out of mud told us what to do?! He is merely a mockery of our religion!”

JA-ARA
“For that selfish stupid daughter, you shall go with Mud Man to the Edolas tree-top to taunt the Doctor! Since you are Boom-Shakalah!”

GREN
(chants) “Boom-Shakalah! Boom-Shakalah! Boom-Shakalah! Boom Shakalah! [Boom-Shakalah…”]

ELAR-JOM
(distraught; angrily) “That’s not fair, Mum! THAT’S NOT FAIR!”

But Elar-Jom’s protests are ignored, as the Gren keep on chanting…

GREN
(chants) “…Boom-Shakalah! Boom-Shakalah! Boom-Shakalah! Boom Shakalah! [Boom-Shakalah…”]

JA-ARA
(cries; out loud) “We Gren warriors will be victorious! We shall beat those smelly trespassers! FOR THE MUD! FOR THE GLORY! FOR GREN!!!”

More roars and cheers echo from the Gren, whilst the Mud Man watches and is very pleased with himself.

DR. NETT
(aside; to Salvador) “Well that went rather well, I must say!”

SALVADOR (V’O)
“As I knew it would, Nett.”

The Gren savages keep cheering, as they are about to head off for their tasks.

SCENE #64 – INT – DYNDA’S TENT, LESLAK – DATE: 4198 – DAY, MORNING
Next morning at Leslak, Jason Drodo wakes up in Dynda’s tent. He finds the Doctor and Dynda having breakfast in the tent, whilst it is raining and thunderclouds echo from outside.

DOCTOR
(cheerfully) “Good morning, Jason! Hope you had a nice sleep!”

JASON
(yawns) “Yes. Thank you, Doctor. Hope you slept well too.”

DOCTOR
“Oh, can’t complain. I’ve enjoyed reading this condensed version of the Junglos Bible. Got myself rather familiar with it. Of course I had to get inside when it started to rain. But apart from that, a satisfactory night.”

DYNDA
“Not satisfactory for me. I had to cope with this boy’s snoring.”

JASON
(affronted) “I don’t snore!”

DYNDA
“I never heard such a pig!” (Pause; to Doctor) “And then you Doctor had to use that torch to read during the night. It gave me such a shock when you switched it on!”

DOCTOR
“Yes, sorry! Should have warned you Dynda, but I didn’t want to disrupt your sleep.”

Moment of silence.

DOCTOR
“Fancy some breakfast, Jason?”

JASON
“Yes, very much. What’s on offer?”

DYNDA
“Help yourself! The Doctor does!”

Dynda becomes moody, whilst Jason takes a lot of the items from the breakfast table and eats them quickly. The Doctor becomes thoughtful, as he continues to read the Bible of Junglos by turning the page.

JASON
(between mouthfuls) “Is that the bible you were talking about, Doctor? The Bible of…Junglos?”

DOCTOR
“Yes. Just reading through it over again and again to be familiar with its contents. I know all about ‘The Treason of the Gren’ to ‘The Breaking of Alliances’ to ‘The Fall of Orio Flinax’!”

JASON
(astonished) “You’ve read all that in one day?”

DOCTOR
“I have brilliant reading skills, Jason. Especially with comprehending the text’s language. And the Gren certainly have peculiar if not gruesome tongues.”

DYNDA
(perplexed) “I thought you were keen to see that bible in Ungol, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
“I am. But it’s best to know what this little version of the text is. When I read the real book, I know what’s coming.”

JASON
“I don’t understand, Doctor. How come you are interested in this planet’s history and not preventing this quest for the treasure?”

DOCTOR
“The treasure?! Yes, Jason! Tell me about this treasure you’re hunting for! Is it gold? Jewels?”

JASON
(bewildered) “Jewels?! There aren’t any jewels in Flinax’s treasure chests. Nor gold for that matter.”

DYNDA
“Then what’s in the chests if not gold or jewels!”

JASON
“Don’t you know? The chests contain the most powerful treasure in the universe! With this map I have, we can be at that tower once we’ve fulfilled all the requirements laid down to recover the treasure!”

DOCTOR
(intrigued) “Yes. Can I see that map of yours, Jason? Just to have a look at it.”

JASON
“Oh, certainly.”

Jason takes the map out from his pocket and hands it over to the Doctor. The Doctor takes the map and switches it on to activate the hologram.

DOCTOR
(startled) “Holographic. Hmm.”

Moment of silence, as the Doctor takes a while to look at the map.

DYNDA
“Well, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
“Interesting. This map covers only a quarter of the planet. It shows the journey from the walls of Waldo to the tower of Ungol at the central hemisphere.” (Pause; to Jason) “Where did you get this map, Jason?”

JASON
(hesitates) “It was given to me. By an old captain…who went with Orio Flinax as his first mate to bury the treasure at Ungol. Captain Boney his name was. They said he lived the life of a spaceman for ten thousand of his years.”

DOCTOR
“I see. And how did Captain Boney give the map to you? Did he get the black spot from his fellow shipmates?”

JASON
“Yes! That’s exactly what happened! He was a pirate as well, you see. Not like Lo-Jo Sil. He kept the map safe for Orio Flinax to keep. He was threatened with death and was marked.”

DOCTOR
“The black spot. Yes, go on.”

JASON
“Well, I’d never seen him in such a state as he drank lots of rum. My, how he belched! He was on the verge of death and he gave me the map before he died. Once the pirates attacked the space station I was on, I managed to escape.”

DYNDA
“So how come you managed to meet up with Deletos and Captain Doromir? And those crooks?”

JASON
“Ah. I showed the map to Mr. Deletos. He funded the voyage you see, from home to Junglos and the Hispaniola set off with Captain Doromir in command. We didn’t know Lo-Jo Sil and his men were pirates, but Deletos didn’t know any better. For one thing, he didn’t keep his mouth shut.”

DOCTOR
“Yes. Reminds me of somebody I once knew. Or read about.”

DYNDA
“Doctor, this is all very fascinating! But shouldn’t we be thinking about finding Gun Nett rather than thinking about this treasure?”

DOCTOR
(agitated) “How much do you know about this planet, Dynda?”

DYNDA
“How much do I…?” (Pause) “I told you, Doctor! I’m not interested in the planet’s history!”

DOCTOR
“That’s a shame, Dynda! That’s a real shame! You could have helped us with knowing how long this planet has left to live!”

DYNDA
“What? How long it has left to live? What’s that supposed to mean?!”

DOCTOR
“It’s four one nine eight according to you in terms of a date for this planet.”

DYNDA
“Yes, that’s what I said. The date is four thousand one hundred and ninety-eight of Junglos! The planet’s in its fifth epoch!”

DOCTOR
“Well, Dynda. This bible I hold in my hand may not be of interest to you and this map of Orio Flinax may be a waste of time.” (Pause) “But I have to inform you, that the last book of the Bible happens to be called…‘Revelation of the Universe’.”

Moment of silence.

JASON
“What are you saying, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
“I’m saying, Jason…I’m saying…”

DYNDA
“Yes? What is it, Doctor?”

From outside, the rain stops and birdsong occurs.

DOCTOR
(cheerfully) “It’s stopped raining!”

JASON
“What?”

DOCTOR
(cheerfully) “And we should be on our way! According to that map Jason’s got, we make for Edolas. So let’s go, shall we?!”

The Doctor stands up and heads out of the tent. Dynda and Jason are perplexed, before they stand up to follow him.

SCENE #65 – EXT – TRINAS, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, MORNING
Back in Trinas, Billy wakes up as he rouses himself from sleep. As he wakes, he turns over to find Nyssa no longer next to him.

BILLY
“Nyssa? Nyssa?”

Billy then turns round and sighs with relief, as he sees Nyssa sitting a few metres distance away from him. Billy makes his way over towards Nyssa.

BILLY
(relieved) “There you are!” (Pause) “Are you alright?”

NYSSA
(nervous) “Yes. Yes, I’m fine.”

BILLY
“Did you wake up at all in the night?”

NYSSA
(apprehensive) “Why did you ask?”

BILLY
(perplexed) “Err…just wondering. I thought you might have woken up, worrying about that disease on your arm during the night.” (Pause) “How is it by the way?”

Nyssa checks her arm.

NYSSA
(gradually) “It’s still there! It seems to be spreading around my arm at a slow rate.”

BILLY
“Has it been irritating you much then?”

NYSSA
“Sometimes.”

BILLY
“Well as long as you don’t scratch it, Nyssa. That might make it worse.”

NYSSA
(abrupt) “Thank you, Billy! I do happen to know not to scratch my arm under any circumstances!”

BILLY
(put-off; gradually) “Well, as long as it didn’t disturb your sleep.”

NYSSA
“No. It didn’t.”

Moment of tense silence.

BILLY
“Are you sure you’re alright, Nyssa?”

NYSSA
“Why? Do I look as if I’m not?”

BILLY
“Well…you’re a bit…how should I say…tense. Like something’s bothering you. I’m only noticing.”

NYSSA
“Really?” (Pause) “Perhaps you shouldn’t these things about me in future, Billy.”

BILLY
(put-off; puzzled) “Right.” (Pause) “Okay.”

NYSSA
“Did you sleep well?”

BILLY
“Pardon?”

NYSSA
“I was asking if you managed to sleep well, Billy.”

BILLY
“Oh, err…yes! I slept fine. Wish I could have done with more.” (happily) “A happy sleep actually.”

NYSSA
“I wonder why.”

Another moment of silence.

BILLY
“Err…Nyssa…”

NYSSA
(interrupts) “I think we should move on, Billy.”

BILLY
(gradually) “Yes, okay.” (Pause) “Well…we should see to that arm of yours. And the Gren may be able to help us if they have an antidote…”

NYSSA
(interrupts) “No! I don’t think that’s a good idea!”

BILLY
(puzzled) “Well…how else are we going to cure that arm of yours?”

NYSSA
“We need to find the Doctor! He can help us!”

BILLY
“But…we don’t know where the Doctor is, Nyssa! He could be anywhere!”

NYSSA
“Exactly! So I suggest we find him before we lose him completely! That was our first priority, Billy! We were trying to find the Doctor after we searched through all that rubble of walls yesterday!”

BILLY
“Yes! But that’s changed, Nyssa! We were captured by savages, rescued by pirates, and then we escaped from pirates! The Doctor may be far, far away considering all that has happened!”

NYSSA
(uptight) “You’re supposed to take care of me, Billy!”

BILLY
“That’s what I’m trying to do, Nyssa!”

NYSSA
(interrupts; uptight) “By hoping to find the Doctor, we may be able to find a cure! That was what you promised me Billy! Are you going to break that promise by sending us to our deaths to the people who put those awful insects on my arm?!”

BILLY
(calmly; diplomatic) “Alright, alright! We’ll do it your way! We’ll go into the jungle and see if we can find the Doctor! If he’s still around that is!”

NYSSA
“Thank you!”

Eventually Nyssa and Billy get up from the ground, as they make to head off into the jungle to find the Doctor. Nyssa walks ahead of Billy, before he eventually catches up with her.

BILLY
(curious; apprehensive) “Nyssa?” (Pause) “Nyssa, please answer me!”

NYSSA
“What is it?”

BILLY
“Are you sure you’re alright, Nyssa?”

NYSSA
(uptight) “You asked me that twice already today, Billy! Must you ask me that for a third time?”

BILLY
“You’re being a bit unfriendly to me today, Nyssa! It’s not like you!”

NYSSA
(uptight) “Isn’t it?”

BILLY
“Have I said something wrong? Something to upset you.”

NYSSA
(sighs) “No, Billy! You haven’t!”

BILLY
“Then tell me, please! What’s the matter?!”

NYSSA
(uptight) “Let’s just find the Doctor and get my arm cured, so that we can go back to the TARDIS and get off this planet! Alright?!”

BILLY
(taken back) “Okay.”

Eventually, Nyssa and Billy continue walking on. They don’t speak to each other, as tension occurs between them.

NYSSA
“We make our way down here. Jason said it’ll take us to Dar.”

As Nyssa and Billy move on, hooting and quiet wild noises echo nearby. Gren savages rise up from behind some bushes, as they watch Nyssa and Billy making their way to Dar.

SCENE #66 – EXT – HARRONA, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, MORNING
Meanwhile, on the slopes of Harrona, Captain Doromir and Mr. Deletos stand on top of a hill. They see the tree-top of Edolas before them.

DELETOS
(proudly) “There it is, Captain sir! Edolas! The computer of knowledge in the form of a tree!” (shudders) “I must say, I don’t like the looks of those dead skeletons hanging up there! See!”

DOROMIR
“Let’s hope we will not encounter those ruffian pirates again!”

DELETOS
“Oh certainly we shall not! Quite certain of it, sir.”

A rustling noise then occurs behind them.

DOROMIR
“What’s that?”

DELETOS
“What’s what, Captain?”

DOROMIR
“That noise, Mr. Deletos! It was in the trees!”

Moment of silence.

DELETOS
“I didn’t hear anything, sir.”

Suddenly, from behind them, there’s a ferocious roar as a bear charges out at them.

DOROMIR
(cries) “Mr. Deletos! Behind you!”

Deletos shrieks, as the bear charges towards him. A laser shot is fired and the bear groans, as it slumps to the floor. Deletos sighs with relief, as Doromir shot the bear with his laser pistol.

DELETOS
(grateful) “Thank you so much, Captain! You were quick on your pistol! That bear would certainly have killed me!”

DOROMIR
“It didn’t deserve to die! Stupid creature.”

Another moment of silence.

DELETOS
“So? How shall we make for Edolas?”

Doromir takes out the map he’s got and switches it on, activating the hologram.

DOROMIR
(gradually) “Well according to this map…we should make downhill before we come to a path called Egori. Then we should follow that path that leads to the signposts for Edolas.”

DELETOS
(astonished) “They have signposts provided for us?”

DOROMIR
(continues) “Then we follow the signposts to Edolas. Once we get there, we climb up the rope ladder that goes into the trees. The computer core should be situated in the main trunk of the main tree.”

DELETOS
“What are we to look for when we get there?”

DOROMIR
(grimly) “Information, Mr. Deletos. Information on how to complete the quest.”

Another moment of silence.

DELETOS
(sceptical) “What good can information from a tree give us? What do trees have to help us with?”

DOROMIR
“Trees are the greatest guardians of this planet, as far as Edolas is concerned. It may well be that it will give us information on how to respect the laws of this planet and not abuse its nature.”

DELETOS
(sceptical) “Laws? From a tree. Bah! All I intend is to get that treasure from the Bullor and get out of here!”

Suddenly, Doromir and Deletos get jumped upon by Morg and Pike, who cry out loud behind them. Doromir and Deletos get captured by the pirates and have their swords; buckles and laser pistols taken from them.

MORG
“Aha, Captain! We’ve got you at last!”

PIKE
“Yeah, old captain and old financier. You can’t hurt us now!”

DELETOS
“Who are you calling ‘old’?!”

DOROMIR
(agitated) “Mr. Morg; Mr. Pike?! Where is your Mr. Sil?”

LO-JO
“Right here, Captain! I’m right here!”

Doromir turns to see Lo-Jo, as he approaches him chuckling.

LO-JO
(chuckles; gloats) “Bravo, Captain Doromir! Are you happy to see your crew?”

Lo-Jo, Morg and Pike laugh out loud in triumph.

DELETOS
“You can scoff all you like, Lo-Jo! It won’t do you much good! You’re in big trouble!”

LO-JO
“Oh you are not in a position to make threats to us, Mr. Deletos! As far as I’m concerned, we…that is me and my little crew…hold the cards, wouldn’t you say?!”

DOROMIR
“Mr. Sil! You are charged with mutiny! And once we get back to the Hispaniola, you will be taken back home to stand trial…”

LO-JO
(interrupts) “No, Captain! That’s not how it’s going to work!”

Lo-Jo then takes a commanding officer’s hat out from behind him and shows it to Doromir and Deletos. Doromir and Deletos gasp in shock, whilst Lo-Jo laughs as he puts the hand on his head.

ORIO THE PARROT
(squawks) “Aye, aye, Captain!” (squawks) “Aye, aye!”

DELETOS
“It’s…its Mr. Harbork’s hat! That’s the hat Mr. Harbork wore! You stole it!”

DOROMIR
(realises; to Lo-Jo) “It was you who killed Mr. Harbork when sealing that breach aboard the Hispaniola, Mr. Sil! You insolent wretch!”

LO-JO
“Aye! That’s correct, Captain! And you should pay more respect to me when I wear this hat, if you wish to keep your lily-livered throats un-cut!”

Morg and Pike cheer.

LO-JO
“You will do as I say, Captain Doromir. For I…Captain Lo-Jo, am leading the quest!”

Morg and Pike cheer again.

MORG; PIKE
(chants) “Captain Lo-Jo! Captain Lo-Jo! Captain Lo-Jo! Captain Lo-Jo! Captain Lo-Jo! [Captain Lo-Jo…”]

Lo-Jo laughs out loud, as Morg and Pike chant away.

LO-JO
(gleefully) “Now…Doromir! Since you have the map in your capable hands, you will tell us where to go from here!”

Doromir and Deletos become troubled, with their lives at stake in Lo-Jo’s hands.
