‘DOUBLE IDENTITY’

In this story, Spidey attempts to catch a man who looks like Peter Parker and is stealing a valuable manuscript from a library, I believe. But the man’s bodyguard, Brutus, knocks him down. It turns out that the villain of this story is Charles Cameo, who recently appeared in ‘The Sinister Prime Minister’.

Charles Cameo is a former actor turned criminal who poses as many people to steal precious works of art. This includes people like Peter Parker of course as well as J. Jonah Jameson, an art exhibitionist, an artist and Spider-Man himself. Jameson, of course, accuses Spidey for the robberies.

Jameson and the police set a trap for Spidey using a tapestry. But very soon, Cameo as Spidey gets defeated by the real Spider-Man who swings in. The real Spidey has to prove to Jameson as well as the New York police that he is the real deal before he actually gets to thwart Mr. Cameo and Brutus.

Amusingly, the scenes of the two Spider-Men pointing at each other and the Jameson/Policeman duo got reused and re-edited for the post-credits scene of ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ which features 2099 Spidey. I was disappointed Spider-Man didn’t say “How dare you point at me!” in this.

‘Double Identity’ rating – 7/10
