‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Invasion of Time’

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the season finale of Season 15 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Louise Jameson as Leela and K-9, voiced by John Leeson. This ‘Doctor Who’ adventure is a six-part story by ‘David Agnew’ (a.k.a. Anthony Read and Graham Williams). It sees the Doctor returning to Gallifrey to become the new Time Lord president. It introduces the Vardans as aliens and it features the return of the potato-headed Sontarans. It also features the departure of regular cast member Louise Jameson as Leela as well as K-9 Mark I. ‘The Invasion of Time’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox.

It’s time for the Doctor to tackle another Sontaran in the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. In ‘The Time Warrior’, the Third Doctor fought Linx. Here in ‘The Sontaran Experiment’, the Fourth Doctor fights Styre. ‘The Sontaran Experiment’ is a two-part adventure starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith and Ian Marter as Harry Sullivan. And welcome to Season 11 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series! 🙂 This is Jon Pertwee’s fifth and final season as the Third Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’. We start off with ‘The Time Warrior’, a four-part story by Robert Holmes. This story is significant for two major things. Firstly, it introduces us to Elisabeth Sladen as new companion Sarah Jane Smith. Secondly, it introduces us to the Sontarans…or at least one Sontaran – Commander Linx, played by Kevin Lindsay. ‘The Time Warrior’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox.

Here’s a little quickie for me to share. I’ve finished writing my 60th anniversary special of ‘Doctor Who’ for ‘Bradley’s Basement’, which is a three-part adventure called ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’. As it’s the 60th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’ next year, it’s only fair to revisit a 50th anniversary special story of ‘Doctor Who’ in the form of the comic book adventure ‘Prisoners of Time’, featuring the first eleven Doctors and their companions. The Fifth Doctor, Nyssa, Tegan and Adric appear in the fifth chapter of the graphic novel story called ‘In Their Nature’.

It’s time to talk about my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ story from the Colin Baker era. It was also the first story for me to experience Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri. We continue our look into Season 22 of ‘Doctor Who’ on Blu-ray with ‘The Two Doctors’, a multi-Doctor story featuring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor. There’s also Frazer Hines as Jamie who accompanies Patrick Troughton’s Doctor as well as Nicola Bryant as Peri who accompanies Colin Baker’s Doctor.
