Out of the seven seasons featuring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’, ‘The Key to Time’ season (Season 16) is undeniably my favourite. I always enjoy coming back to this season, especially when it’s creative and inventive in its storytelling and how the quest romp theme ties the season together.

We come to one of my favourite stories in ‘The Key to Time’ season (Season 16) of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. This is ‘The Pirate Planet’, a four-part adventure by Douglas Adams, who is well-known for being the author of ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’. This story stars Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Mary Tamm as Romana, and K-9, voiced by John Leeson. The TARDIS trio end up on the planet Zanak, as they try to locate the second segment of the Key to Time and they come up against Bruce Purchase as the Pirate Captain. This story inspired me to create the atmosphere for my ‘Fifth Doctor’ adventure called ‘The Space Hotel’. 😀 ‘The Pirate Planet’ can be checked out on DVD and Britbox.

I’ve now added my reviews on the ‘Doctor Who’ stories by the author of ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy’ himself, Douglas Adams. Douglas wrote three ‘Doctor Who’ stories for TV and was the script-editor for the series in 1979 for Season 17. I’m celebrating his contribution to the series in my reviews!

I love ‘The Pirate Planet’! It’s one of my favourite stories from the Tom Baker era of ‘Doctor Who’ as well as one of my favourites from ‘The Key To Time’ season (Season 16). It’s bonkers; it’s funny; has Tom Baker in it and it has the hilarious Pirate Captain, played wonderfully by Mr. Bruce Purchase. 😀
