It’s time to take a look at the only ‘Doctor Who’ episode from the classic TV series to not feature William Hartnell as the First Doctor, even though he is credited in the cast list. This is ‘Mission to the Unknown’, which serves as a prelude to the 12-part epic story ‘The Daleks’ Master Plan’. There are two versions of this story. There’s the original, which can be heard on its TV soundtrack on an audio CD or via Audible, and there’s a new version of the story produced by the students of the University of Central Lancashire, which can be viewed on the ‘Doctor Who’ YouTube channel. To start off, let’s take a look at the four-part adventure called ‘Galaxy 4’, starring William Hartnell as the First Doctor, Maureen O’Brien as Vicki and Peter Purves as Steven. This story has recently been animated for DVD and Blu-ray, with a clip from the first episode and the entire third episode still in existence.
