‘Junglos 4198’, Part Two, Chapter 8

bullor

8. The Bullor Communicates

SCENE #67 – INT – GREAT HALL, UNGOL – DATE: 4198 – DAY, MORNING
Meanwhile in the great hall of Ungol, hideous roars echo as the Bullor is fierce and ferocious high up. The guardian Corate waits in the hall and becomes nervous, as he walks back and forth hearing the Bullor’s roars. The Bullor roars with such terror, as Corate becomes afraid.

CORATE
“Why must that creature wreck all my nerves and cause me anxiety?!”

His question gets answered by another horrific roar of the Bullor from upstairs. He continues pacing about in the hall.

CORATE
“Come on, Cartcra! What’s keeping you?!”

The vicious monsters keeps on roaring, as Corate goes to sit on a bench in the great hall. Footsteps then echo from a winding staircase, as someone comes downstairs. Corate stands up, as he sees Cartcra coming down. Cartcra makes his way to meet Corate.

CARTCRA
“Corate!”

CORATE
(anxiously) “Well, Cartca? Why does that beast persisting in roaring?!”

CARTCRA
“The Bullor has woken, Corate!”

CORATE
(sardonically) “So I gathered!”

CARTCRA
“As I predicted it would! The Bullor wishes to speak to us!”

CORATE
(anxiously) “Speak to us?! You mean…he wants us to go up and meet him?!”

CARTCRA
“Yes! He sent me down here to collect you!”

Cartcra makes his way back upstairs, whilst Corate remains behind.

CORATE
(anxiously) “Cartcra? I don’t like this! I don’t like what’s happening here! Should we really be going up to see the Bullor?!”

CARTCRA
“Our duties as guardians is to obey, not question! He demands us to meet him! Now come!”

Cartcra leads the way, as Corate groans and moans following behind him up the stairs. The Bullor still roars from above.

SCENE #68 – INT – BULLOR’S CHAMBER, UNGOL – DATE: 4198 – DAY, MORNING
Up in the tower of Ungol, Cartcra and Corate enter the Bullor’s chamber. The Bullor keeps roaring in terrible anger and rage. It’s chained up, as it beats hard on its chains attached to him in the room. The Bullor growls, as it drips blood from its teeth to the floor from eating some animal. Cartcra steps forward as he speaks to the Bullor, whilst it goes through its tantrum.

CARTCRA
“Bullor! We have come! Your guardians are here!”

The Bullor roars savagely, before it slowly ceases and calms down. It then speaks in a terrible booming voice that’s so alien and unearthly, as it shakes the walls of its chamber.

BULLOR
“IS CORATE WITH YOU?”

CORATE
(nervously) “I…I am here…Lord Bullor!”

BULLOR
“STEP FORWARD!”

Corate nervously steps forward with Cartcra. Moment of silence ensues.

BULLOR
“YOU CORATE…AND YOU CARTCRA…WERE VISITED TODAY BY THE LORD OF DARKNESS. HE WAS HERE BEFORE I WAS EVER BORN. HE KNOWS THINGS FAR GREATER THAN I AM. AND IF WHAT YOU SAY IS TRUE ABOUT HIS COMING AND HIS MESSAGE…THEN THE DAYS OF JUNGLOS FOUR ONE NINE EIGHT ARE DOOMED!”

CARTCRA
“What shall we do, Bullor?”

BULLOR
“I SHALL BE RELEASED WHEN THE TRESPASSERS ENTER MY TOWER! BREAK MY BONDS AND I WILL SET LOOSE ON THEM! THEN…I SHALL EAT THE FLESH AND DRINK THEIR BLOOD!”

CORATE
(shudders) “Shall we assist you, Bullor?”

BULLOR
“NO!! IF ONE DARES INTERFERE WITH MY FEASTING…I SHALL DEVOUR EVEN YOUR FLESH AND BLOOD TOO!”

Another moment of silence.

CARTCRA
“Salvador said something else in his message, Bullor! He claimed that Quasarin is on this planet!”

The Bullor screams in a rage, as it pulls hard on its chains but is unable to break free. He slams back against the wall in anger.

CORATE
(nervously) “Is…is there anything we can do? Rid their arms once they come to the door?”

BULLOR
(slowly) “NO! THE SWORD IS SAID TO SLAY ME THROUGH MYTH AND LEGEND! BUT I SHALL BE STRONGER THAN THE MIGHTY ONE WHO BEARS THAT SWORD! IF HE KNOWS HOW TO WHEAL IT, THEN I SHALL HAVE THE SATISFACTION OF A WORTHY OPPONENT! IF NOT…THEN I SHALL PROTECT FLINAX’S TREASURE!” (Pause) “TAKE YOUR POSTS, CORATE AND CARTCRA! THE BULLOR HAS SPOKEN! THE BULLOR HAS COMMUNICATED!”

Cartcra and Corate bow before the Bullor and leave his chamber. The Bullor meanwhile waits in anticipation as it prepares itself.

SCENE #69 – EXT – EAVES OF DAR, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, NOON
It is now noon-time. At the eaves of Dar, Nyssa and Billy walk through the forest. They’re still not speaking to each other. Billy gets anxious by Nyssa’s sudden reactionary behaviour.

BILLY
“Nyssa? Are you still talking to me?”

NYSSA
(sighs) “Yes. What do you want, Billy?”

BILLY
“An explanation. Why are you so moody and unfriendly all of a sudden? What have I done to make you feel this way?”

NYSSA
“Have I become moody and unfriendly then?”

BILLY
“You’ve been like this since I woke up this morning!”

NYSSA
“If it upsets you Billy, then maybe you shouldn’t be around me.”

BILLY
“What?! Nyssa, how can you say such a thing?!”

Nyssa keeps on walking, before Billy stops her and grabs hold of her hand.

BILLY
“Nyssa, wait a minute!”

NYSSA
(apprehensive) “Don’t touch me, Billy! Let go of my hand! I’m not having you infected by something contagious! We must go on!”

Nyssa tries to break free but Billy holds her firmly.

BILLY
“We’re not going anywhere until you tell me what’s bothering you!”

NYSSA
“I’ve been infected by an insect! Why else would I be bothered?!”

BILLY
“There’s a lot more to it than that, Nyssa! Tell me please!”

NYSSA
“Why must you know?!”

BILLY
“Because I care about you!”

NYSSA
(angrily) “Then maybe you should stop caring!”

Moment of tense silence. Billy has become utterly distraught.

BILLY
(distraught) “I can’t do that! You can’t ask me to do that, Nyssa!”

NYSSA
“Why shouldn’t I?!”

Another moment of tense silence.

BILLY
(gradually) “That bug! It’s…it’s altered your mind! You’ve become different. You’re not the Nyssa I know.” (Pause) “We have to go and find that Gren tribe to cure you!”

NYSSA
“No, Billy! I’m not going to that tribe!”

BILLY
(cries; anxiously) “I’m worried about you, Nyssa! Can’t you understand that?! Can’t you understand how I feel about you?!”

NYSSA
(challengingly) “No I don’t, Billy! How exactly do you feel about me?”

Billy hesitates, as he becomes uneasy and unable to express his feelings.

BILLY
(nervously) “I…I…”

Just then, Billy gropes in pain as he touches his sides all of sudden. Nyssa becomes concerned once she sees this.

NYSSA
(concerned) “Billy? What’s the matter?”

BILLY
(groans) “Sorry I…I seem to have…some kind of stitch! Must have been from all that walking. I’ll be alright in a minute.”

NYSSA
“Are you sure?”

BILLY
(puzzled) “What…what do you mean by that?”

Suddenly, Nyssa and Billy jumped on by Gren savages who have leaped out of the trees. The Gren savages grab hold of Nyssa and Billy and the two of them struggle to break free.

NYSSA
(cries) “Gren savages! They jumped out of the trees just now to get us!”

BILLY
(cries; reassuringly) “Nyssa! Hold on! We’ll get out of this one, I’m sure!”

NYSSA
(cries) “Billy! Behind you!”

At that moment, Billy gets knocked out suddenly by one of the Gren savages. Billy falls to the ground, whilst the Gren laugh mockingly at him. Nyssa looks on anxiously, as she tries to break free to reach Billy.

NYSSA
(cries; anxiously) “Billy! Billy, are you alright?! Billy, wake up!”

Billy is unresponsive, as the Gren savages keep on laughing at him. Whilst Nyssa is anxious for Billy, Ja-Ara then turns up as she leads the hunting party of Gren savages with her. She approaches Nyssa.

JA-ARA
(at Nyssa) “This is the one! This is the girl the Mud Man told us to bring! Take her back to the village!”

NYSSA
(cries) “No! Wait! What about Billy?! You can’t leave him!”

JA-ARA
(bitterly) “The boy is not what we want! And you shall not see him again! EVER!!” (to Gren) “Take her!”

The hunting party of Gren savages take Nyssa with them. Nyssa struggles desperately, as she tries to break free. But the Gren savages are too strong for her.

NYSSA
(cries; anxiously) “No! Billy! Billy, wake up! WAKE UP!”

Ja-Ara laughs out loud, as Nyssa is taken away by the Gren savages into the forest. Once they’ve gone, Billy slowly comes round and recovers after being knocked out.

BILLY
(groans) “Ooh! That was a real knock out!”

Billy gradually wakes up, as he remembers what happened.

BILLY
(realises; panics) “Nyssa! They’ve taken Nyssa!”

Billy eventually gets up and makes his way forward, before spotting something on the ground. He kneels down to see what it is.

BILLY
“Footprints! They’ve left footprints! Now that’s a lucky one!”

Just then, thunderclouds rumble and it starts to rain.

BILLY
(anxiously) “No! No, not now! Don‘t rain now! I’ll lose the path!”

The rain falls heavily, as Billy sees it filling in the footprints before him.

BILLY
“Don’t stand around, Billy! Just follow the footprints as best you can and hope for the best!”

With that, Billy makes his way forward. But as he moves forward, Billy then cries out in pain.

BILLY
(cries; in pain) “Ah! My sides! Why are they hurting…?” (Pause) “Unless…”

Billy then opens up his torn shirt to check something. He then sees something that shocks him.

BILLY
(gasps; shocked) “No! It can’t be!” (Pause; snaps out of it) “No time! It’s not bad anyway!”

With that, Billy runs onwards through the jungle and the rain. He steadily attempts to follow the trail of footprints on the ground to find Nyssa.

SCENE #70 – EXT – HARRONA, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, AFTERNOON
It is now afternoon. On the hills of Harrona, the Doctor, Dynda and Jason walk down the slopes to see the tree-top of Edolas before them.

DYNDA
“Well here we are! And there it is!”

JASON
“The trees that contain all knowledge of the quest…and of the planet.”

DOCTOR
“How ironic. That nature should be the centrepiece of this planet.”

DYNDA
“Centrepiece? Nature is the planet, Doctor. It governs everything that goes on this planet.”

DOCTOR
“Exactly what I mean. Ironic. I visited a planet called Riverloth, where a tree keeps and protects its people and everything else.” (Pause) “And it seems to apply here also. Just as it says in the fourth book of Orio Flinax in the Bible of Junglos.” (grimly) “It’s shame the bible doesn’t mention who the author is.”

DYNDA
“You’ve become obsessive about that bible haven’t you, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
(to Jason) “Tell me, Jason. That sword you carry. Is it of any significance?”

JASON
“Significance? Of course it’s significant!”

Jason pulls his sword Quasarin out of his sheath to show it to the Doctor.

JASON
“This sword is to help those on the quest. It shall be used to kill the Bullor. It’s the only weapon that actually kills the Bullor. According to legend.”

DOCTOR
“Yes. So it says in the book of ‘The Bullor’ in the Junglos Bible. Just checking to see if that is what you hold in your hand.”

JASON
(puzzled) “I can’t see how you do not know, Doctor. It’s quite plain according to these runes in ancient Gren on the blade.”

Jason waves the sword in front of the Doctor’s face. The Doctor stops Jason waving the sword.

DOCTOR
(agitated) “Please, Jason! Don’t wave that sword in my face! You might hurt or kill somebody!”

JASON
“Sorry.”

Jason puts his sword back into his sheath.

JASON
“The dark lord said you have a reputation of knowing our quest!”

DOCTOR
“Dark lord? Who is this dark lord you speak of, Jason?”

JASON
“Surely you must know him, Doctor. For he knows you. He has a bitter contempt for you and is determined to get rid of you.”

DOCTOR
“Really?” (Pause) “Who is he, Jason?”

JASON
“Lord Salvador, of course. You must know him, Doctor?” (Pause) “Doctor? You look like you’ve seen a ghost!”

DOCTOR
(troubled) “Lord Salvador. Salvador still lives?!” (Pause) “I can’t believe it!”

Moment of silence.

DYNDA
“Doctor, are we moving on or not? As much as I admire the view, I really would like to get something done!”

The Doctor becomes deep in thought, before he snaps out of it.

DOCTOR
“Hmm? What was that, Dynda?”

DYNDA
“I…”

DOCTOR
(interrupts) “Yes, yes. Of course. Move on!” (to Jason) “Jason? Where do we go? According to the map?”

Jason takes out the map and switches it on, activating the hologram. He takes a moment looking at the map to see where they need to go next.

JASON
(gradually) “Well…we should be heading on the path down these hills. Egori. We walk along it until we come to some signposts that lead us to Edolas.”

DOCTOR
“Egori it is then! Lead the way, Mr. Drodo!”

Jason leads the way, as he, the Doctor and Dynda make for the path of Egori down the hill.

SCENE #71 – EXT – EGORI, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, AFTERNOON
Meanwhile on the Egori path, the Mud Man slithers as a puddle as he leads a Gren group led by Elar-Jom and Antuss. Whilst the Mud Man slithers, he hears the mud voice inside speaking to him.

MUD VOICE
“Death becomes you! Death becomes you! Death becomes you!”

The Mud Man grunts, as he hears the mud voice. Salvador then speaks to him in his mind also.

SALVADOR (V’O)
(insistent) “Listen to me, Nett! Listen, Mud Man! My matter is pressing!”

MUD VOICE
“He’s here! He’s here! He’s here!”

SALVADOR (V’O)
“The Doctor is here! He’s about to walk on the path to Edolas!”

DR. NETT
(aside; to Salvador; grovels) “Am I to listen to the voice in my head or to you?! You’re cramming my mind here! Leave me alone!”

SALVADOR (V’O)
“Shut up, Nett! You must divert your new allies into the trees! Then you must make your way to Edolas! Tell Elar-Jom and her troops to follow the Doctor, as you must go to Edolas to greet him!”

MUD VOICE
“Doctor? Yes! Doctor man! He’s your target! Squeezing squishy powers! Doctor’s your target! Squish squash! Hearts and brain!!!”

The Mud Man stops slithering on the ground, as he reverts to human form. Once formed as Gun Nett, he turns to Elar-Jom, Antuss and the other Gren savages.

ANTUSS
“What’s the matter, Muddy? Why have we stopped?”

DR. NETT
“There’s been a change of plan!”

ELAR-JOM
“Is that so? What’s the problem now, great god of mud?”

DR. NETT
“Don’t be alarmed, my dear princess. It’s only a matter of deception.”

ANTUSS
“Deception?”

DR. NETT
“The Doctor is on his way here! He is actually on the path of Egori! He is heading for Edolas!”

ELAR-JOM
“So what?”

DR. NETT
“So, princess! You and your troops will hide in the trees and follow him to Edolas! But do not attack! Just follow!”

ANTUSS
“What are you going to do then?”

DR. NETT
“I shall make my way to Edolas to greet him! Then we will make him suffer!”

The Mud Man reverts back to his slimy muddy form. But before he becomes a muddy snake again, he, as the Mud Man, looks to Elar-Jom.

DR. NETT
(grovels; to Elar-Jom) “Remember! Hide in the trees! I go on! Wait for the Doctor! Then follow him! Do not let yourselves be seen!”

The Mud Man plops to the ground and turns into the muddy snake form, as he slithers away to Edolas. Once the Mud Man’s gone, Elar-Jom and Antuss make their way to climb into the trees. As they climb, Antuss confers with Elar-Jom.

ANTUSS
“What are you thinking, Elar-Jom?”

ELAR-JOM
“I do not trust this false god, Antuss.”

ANTUSS
“Neither do I. Muddy has to have his way. How would he get such power? No man can gain the power of mud like that!”

ELAR-JOM
“Of course not, you idiot! A spirit gave him the ability to transform himself into mud! So that he could do all these funny clever tricks!”

ANTUSS
“Shall we rebel against him then?!”

Eventually, Elar-Jom, Antuss and the Gren savages are up in the trees. They try to keep silent as they wait for the Doctor.

ELAR-JOM
(whispers; to Antuss) “No.”

ANTUSS
“What?!”

ELAR-JOM
(hushes) “Ssh!”

ANTUSS
(whispers) “I mean…What?”

ELAR-JOM
(whispers) “Not yet, Antuss! We don’t rebel yet!”

ANTUSS
(whispers) “And why not, Elar? Why not?”

ELAR-JOM
(gradually; whispers) “I do not agree with the traditions of mud serving and sacrifice. I am not my mother!” (Pause) “But I shall take the throne of Ja-Ara and she’ll be throat-cut like her own mother was! And then….you…Antuss…shall be at my side!”

ANTUSS
(pleased; whispers) “It shall be an honour.”

Elar-Jom and Antuss then kiss each other passionately. This lasts for a few minutes, before they eventually stop kissing.

ANTUSS
(whispers) “Alas it should come later than expected. I could be killed by your mother’s hand and never get to be with you, dearest Elar!”

ELAR-JOM
(whispers; determined) “Mum shall pay for Volum’s death! That I promise you!”

ANTUSS
(hushes) “Ssh!”

ELAR-JOM
(whispers) “What is it?”

ANTUSS
(whispers) “Hark! I hear voices!”

ELAR-JOM
(whispers; to Gren) “Be quiet! All of you! Listen!”

Everyone in the trees keep quiet, as the Doctor, Dynda and Jason turn up walking on the path of Egori. They make their way to Edolas.

DOCTOR
(cheerfully) “Not long now! Let’s hope the reception committee is good!”

Elar-Jom, Antuss and the Gren savages keep watching the Doctor, Dynda and Jason from above in the trees.

ANTUSS
(whispers) “It’s him, isn’t it?! It’s that Doctor! He has two of his accomplices!”

ELAR-JOM
(whispers) “Keep quiet! Wait for my signal! Then we follow!”

As the Gren savages continue watching from the trees, Jason spots something on the ground. This stops Jason, the Doctor and Dynda in their tracks.

JASON
“Doctor! There’s a trail on the floor!”

The Doctor, Jason and Dynda kneel to check the ground. Jason sniffs the ground and feels sick.

JASON
(sickened) “Smells like mud!”

DYNDA
“Mud? It’s left quite a stain on the path!” (realises) “It could be that Mud Man! He maybe at Edolas waiting for us!”

DOCTOR
(saddened) “Ah! Not the kind of reception I was hoping for.”

DYNDA
“He may have Nett with him! He could be keeping him hostage!”

JASON
“So what do we do then? Go on? Or go back?”

Moment of silence.

DOCTOR
“We can’t go back!”

DYNDA
(to Doctor) “Jason really didn’t have to ask you that; did he?!”

DOCTOR
“It’s important to ask these things! My mind sometimes takes time to make precise calculations on decisions. I have to say on this occasion, it was calculating some proper ones. All probabilities follow this course! Forward!”

With that, the Doctor, Dynda and Jason continue walking on the path to Edolas. Once they’ve gone, Elar-Jom, Antuss and the Gren savages quietly climb down from the trees. They watch the Doctor, Dynda and Jason as they go off on the Egori path.

ANTUSS
(quietly) “Will they suspect we’re following them?!”

ELAR-JOM
(quietly) “Personally I don’t care if elephant poops came raining down on me! It would at least break us free from that false god!” (Pause) “For now though, let’s keep our traps shut?”

With that, Elar-Jom, Antuss and the party of Gren savages follow the Doctor, Dynda and Jason from distance as they all head for Edolas on the Egori path.

SCENE #72 – EXT – EDOLAS, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, AFTERNOON
Eventually at the tree-top of Edolas, the Doctor, Dynda and Jason arrive. They’ve climbed up the rope-ladder to gets them to the platform of the central tree of the forest network. Jason helps Dynda up off from the rope ladder, before she stands on the platform of the central tree.

JASON
(encouragingly) “There you are! Are you alright climbing up that rope ladder, Dynda?”

DYNDA
(laughs) “Reminds me of playtime at school. How I missed climbing up the rope ladders back home. I always wanted to be a female pirate.”

Jason helps Dynda up onto the platform. They both stand up facing each other intimately. Moment of silence.

DYNDA
“Well, young boy! Thank you for helping me!”

JASON
(modestly) “It’s my pleasure.”

Moment of silence. Dynda then makes her way over to the Doctor, as he stares at a terminal embedded within the main tree trunk.

DOCTOR
(disgruntled) “So this is the central terminal for the whole network! The focus point for all the trees to make a link! The central database!”

DYNDA
(bewildered) “You seem a little disapproving of this system, Doctor. Edolas has been the forest of knowledge for generations. Throughout the whole of five epochs.”

DOCTOR
(unconvinced) “Has it really?”

The Doctor accesses the computer terminal, as he types away at the keyboard.

JASON
“What are you doing, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
“I’m trying to access the memory files. I like to know when this central hub was first established.”

DYNDA
“Well that’s easy! From its beginning!”

DOCTOR
(astonished) “From its beginning?”

DYNDA
“Yeah.”

DOCTOR
(bewildered) “Why do you say that, Dynda?”

DYNDA
“Sorry?”

DOCTOR
“How can you be so sure that this computer network contained in this forest was here at the beginning? What does that mean exactly? Beginning of its first instalment? Beginning of the planet’s creation, which is hardly unlikely? Beginning of…well…practically everything?! The big bang? What do you mean?”

DYNDA
“I don’t know. I mean what I said. It’s a phrase! From its beginning.”

DOCTOR
“From its beginning, yes. But what does it actually mean, Dynda?”

DYNDA
“I don’t know!”

DOCTOR
(suspicious) “How can you not know when you’ve already said it?! You said yourself you’re not interested in the planet’s history!”

DYNDA
“And I meant it!”

DOCTOR
“Then why are you certain you know about the tree-top’s history?!”

Just then, a loud beeping noise echoes from the computer terminal. The Doctor turns to look at it.

DOCTOR
“Here we are! These are the records of when the Edolas computer system was first installed.” (Pause) “It says here that…”

Moment of silence.

JASON
“What? What does it say, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
(shocked) “That’s not possible! That just can’t be right!”

DYNDA
“What can’t?”

DOCTOR
(gradually) “The information displayed says that the computer system was first installed in…one!”

Another moment of silence.

DYNDA
“One…?”

DOCTOR
“Exactly, Dynda! One!”

DYNDA
“No, I mean…one what?”

DOCTOR
“That’s just it, Dynda. The computer was installed in ‘one’.”

JASON
“One? One what?”

DOCTOR
(bewildered) “I don’t know. One whatever could it be? One year? One month? One day? One hour? One minute?” (Pause) “One second?” (Pause) “One millisecond?” (Pause) “One billisecond? One trillisecond?”

DYNDA
“What are you talking about, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
(to Jason) “Jason? You said this quest. You and the crew had to come to Edolas to get some information.”

JASON
“That’s right.”

DOCTOR
“What information would that be exactly, if you don’t mind my asking?”

JASON
“Well…information about the quest?”

DOCTOR
“Really? And what exactly would that mean, Jason? ‘Information about the quest’?”

JASON
(confused) “I don’t know. Just ‘information about the quest’. That’s all I know. From Captain Boney’s map.”

DOCTOR
(suspicious) “Yes. Yes I see.” (Pause) “Well let’s see if there’s anything in the computer terminal that will help us.”

The Doctor returns his attention to the computer terminal, as he types away at the keyboard again.

DOCTOR
“I’ll access the information backup files to see if any recent updates were added to…”

Just then, electronic laser pistol triggers are being pulled from behind them. The Doctor, Dynda and Jason turn round to see that they have been trapped by Lo-Jo, Morg and Pike.

LO-JO
“Stay where you are, Doctor; Miss Dynda; Jason! Do not access any more information from that terminal!”

MORG
“We’ve got you cornered now!”

PIKE
“You really thought you could outsmart us out didn’t you, Jason lad?! You’ve got a lot to learn about us pirates!”

Lo-Jo Sil, Morg and Pike laugh out loud, as they train their laser pistols on their captives. Captain Doromir and Deletos are with them also.

DOCTOR
“Mr. Sil, I presume. We didn’t exactly introduce ourselves!”

LO-JO
“There’s no point in trying to bribe me with your fancy words, Doctor!”

DOCTOR
“Oh I wouldn’t even dream of it!”

JASON
“Please Lo-Jo, don’t shoot us!”

LO-JO
“Of course not, Jason lad. You’re completely at the mercy of…Captain Lo-Jo Sil. Hey lad?! See the hat?”

Lo-Jo laughs out loud. Morg and Pike also laugh out loud, as they train their guns on them.

DELETOS
“Captain, sir! It’s that Doctor again!”

DOROMIR
“I knew it! I knew the Doctor would betray us! Now he has doomed the quest!”

Tension stirs, as the Doctor, Dynda and Jason are helpless under the pirates’ captivity.

SCENE #73 – EXT – ALESKI, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, AFTERNOON
At the entrance to the Gren village in Aleski, Nyssa struggles with the Gren savages that have been holding and dragging her with them. Nyssa desperately tries to break free, but the Gren savages are too strong for her.

NYSSA
(pleadingly) “Let me go! Please, let me go! I beg you, leave me alone!”

The Gren savages laugh mockingly at her, whilst Nyssa struggles to break free. Ja-Ara leads the way, as she sees a welcoming committee of Gren waiting to meet her, including her husband Jor-Eliv.

JA-ARA
“My husband! Jor-Eliv! What news from the tree-top?”

JOR-ELIV
“They have seen the evil Doctor man! Some messenger boys were sent from our daughter to inform us of this!”

JA-ARA
“Excellent!”

JOR-ELIV
“They also sent word! That Elar-Jom’s behaviour towards the Gren hunter captain Antuss has been confirmed! Witnesses confirm they are…”

JA-ARA
(interjects) “Thank you, Jor-Eliv. I shall settle that matter once they return!” (Pause; indicates Nyssa) “I have brought this girl from the swanky place of Dar, as the Mud Mum prophesised!”

The Gren savages look at Nyssa, as she continues struggling to break free from her captors.

JOR-ELIV
“There’s not much of her, is there?! So small and thin! Merely a child!”

NYSSA
(pleadingly) “Please! I beg you to release me! I need help! My friend’s hurt out there and I need a cure!”

Before Nyssa says anymore, Brother Sor steps out of the crowd.

SOR
(astonished) “You! It’s her! IT’S HER!”

JA-ARA
“What is it, you old Sor? What are you talking about?!”

SOR
“It’s the girl! The girl I, Antuss and the rotted Volum found in the forest! I put Pinators on her!”

NYSSA
(horrified) “Oh no! Not you!”

JA-ARA
“This is a great day for all Gren! Because of her suffering, she shall be killed easily!”

The Gren savages jeer and laugh out loud, as they mock Nyssa.

NYSSA
(pleads, suffers) “I’m suffering! Please have some sympathy and pity! I need to be cured of this virus! Please…let me have a glass of water!”

Ja-Ara laughs at Nyssa’s face.

JA-ARA
(cruelly) “You do not deserve a happy living life, girly! You shall have suffering! And suffering shall be with you until you die! For it will be a joy to have you sacrificed!”

Ja-Ara and the Gren savage tribe then enter into an uproar of laughter. Nyssa becomes unable to focus.

JA-ARA
(to Gren) “You lot! Take the girl to the torture playground! I shall be there to enjoy the entertainment myself!”

With that, the Gren savages take Nyssa away.

NYSSA
(cries; pleads) “No! Please! Don’t! Let me go, please! Let go of me!” (Pause; shouts) “Billy; Doctor! BILLY; DOCTOR!!”

But Nyssa’s cries for help are drowned out by the Gren’s horrendous mocking laughter. However, close by, Billy has been following Nyssa and the Gren savages from a distance, as he watches from behind some bushes.

BILLY
(disturbed) “Torture playground, hey? I wouldn’t like to have one of those in a school playground.”

Billy then picks something up from the ground. He holds it in his hand.

BILLY
“This ghastly knife might be of some help to me. I may be able to rescue Nyssa with it.”

Billy is about to move on, before he suddenly feels pain in his sides.

BILLY
(winces; in pain) “No! I must…go on! Can’t let this stop me!” (Pause) “I must…rescue Nyssa!”

Billy moves on stealthily whilst in pain, as he goes off to find and rescue Nyssa.

SCENE #74 – EXT – EDOLAS, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, AFTERNOON
Back on the platform of the central tree of Edolas, the Doctor, Dynda and Jason are interrogated by Lo-Jo and the pirates, as they train their laser pistols on them.

DOCTOR
“Please, Mr. Sil! What’s the point in trying to threaten us? So that you may gain access to the terminal for information regarding your quest?! We can work together!”

JASON
“What?! Work with these scoundrels, Doctor? They’re nothing but murdering pirates!”

LO-JO
(angrily) “Pirates, Jason lad?! Pirates?!”

DOCTOR
“I can help you achieve your objective if you wish! For your benefit Mr. Sil, as well as for all pirates! For this brotherhood, Jason told me about!”

MORG
“See, Captain! I knew the boy would peach us!”

DELETOS
(quietly) “Hear that, Captain! The Doctor’s determined to work with these pirates!”

DOROMIR
(quietly) “It’s despicable, Deletos! Just despicable!”

LO-JO
(bitterly) “We pirates do not share our hunt for the treasure at Ungol’s tower! Especially not with the likes of you, Doctor!”

DYNDA
“Fine, Lo-Jody-Bo-Bo! Have it your way! But let us be on our way and we won’t bother you! Tell your crooks to put their laser pistols down!”

DOCTOR
“Don’t antagonise them, Dynda!”

LO-JO
“No! You Doctor have a reputation of bad liking! A certain witness said you have come to disrupt our quest!”

MORG
“He said you would rob us of all of our treasure! We pirates don’t get taken in by common thieving doctors!”

PIKE
“That’s right, Morg! Most absolutely right!”

DOCTOR
“What would I want with a load of treasure?! All I’m interested in is the Bible!”

DOROMIR
“Bible?”

DYNDA
(sighs) “Oh not that book again!”

LO-JO
“Bible? What bible do you speak of?”

DOCTOR
“The Bible of Junglos! Surely you must have heard of it, Mr. Sil?”

PIKE
“Aye, I have a bible! I keep it safe here in my coat pocket!”

MORG
“What would you want with a bible, Pike?! Don’t you remember the code, idiot?”

LO-JO
(interjects) “The point is…we should not trust you, Doctor! Due to your bad reputation!”

DOCTOR
“Yes, what about my so-called bad reputation? Who told you about it? Mr. Salvador, I suspect!”

DOROMIR
“Lord Salvador has fine manners and a beneficial reputation! Unlike you, Doctor!”

LO-JO
“Shut up, Doromir! I am taking charge of this…interrogation!”

DELETOS
“How dare you speak to your captain like that…?!”

LO-JO
“You forget, Mr. Deletos! I am captain now! See the hat here!”

DYNDA
“Which you stole, of course!”

JASON
“And killed Mr. Harbork for it!”

LO-JO
(shouts) “Shut up!”

DOCTOR
(relentlessly) “Listen to me, Lo-Jo!”

LO-JO
(shouts) “I said ‘SHUT UP’, Doctor!”

DOCTOR
(out loud) “All of you, listen to me! This man Salvador that you’ve met is the most corrupt and unguided being that ever existed! Do not…I beg of you…do not succumb to his views on me!”

MORG
“Condition?”

PIKE
“You make it sound like that Salvador is terminally ill or sick! He’s got sense that man!”

DOROMIR
“It is you that we should distrust, Doctor! Not Salvador!”

DOCTOR
“Salvador’s insane!”

DYNDA
(cries) “Doctor?!”

DOCTOR
“Not now, Dynda!” (to Lo-Jo) “Salvador’s a man who’s had a bad past, Mr. Sil…”

DYNDA
(cries) “Doctor?!”

DOCTOR
“Quiet, Dynda!”

JASON
(cries) “Doctor!”

DOCTOR
“Not you too, Jason!”

MORG
(shouts) “Oi! Lo-Jo! Look!”

Eventually, everyone looks to see what’s disturbed them. All gasp in shock, as they see a slithering mud creature approach towards them.

DELETOS
“Captain Doromir! It’s that…”

DOROMIR
(anxiously) “Yes! I see it myself! It’s been following us!”

LO-JO
(disturbed) “Extraordinary!”

They keep watching, as the mud creature slithers its way up the tree to meet them.

MORG
“What is it?”

PIKE
“It’s getting closer now, isn’t it?!”

DYNDA
(whispers) “Doctor, it’s that creature! That mud monster!”

DOCTOR
“Wait, Dynda! Wait!”

They watch as the creature, the Mud Man, slithers towards them and rises slowly from the ground. The mud voice inside the Mud Man speaks to him.

MUD VOICE
“Mud attack! Quick now! All still insane! Even with your powers! Mud mutagen! They are freaks! They are your creators!”

The Mud Man rises to his full height, but still covered in mud. The Doctor and company watch, as the Mud Man stares at them with menacing intent.

JASON
(quietly) “What the heck is that?!”

Eventually, the Mud Man reverts back to his human form and becomes Gun Nett. Everybody gasps in shock once they see him, especially Dynda.

LO-JO
(disgusted) “I think I’m going to be sick! A man who turns himself into mud?!”

DYNDA
(shocked) “Gun?! Is that you? I can’t believe it!”

DOCTOR
(gradually; sympathetically) “I’m sorry, Dynda. It looks like your friend Dr. Nett was devoured by the Mud Man. They’re the same person!”

Gun Nett then cackles out loud laughing, as he turns his arms into mud.

DR. NETT
(to Doctor) “Guess what, Doctor! Your friend Nyssa has been captured by the Gren! And she will be tortured and sentenced to death by the Gren leader’s hands, under my command! AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO STOP IT!”

DOCTOR
(shocked; anxiously) “What?! No! Nyssa!”

The Mud Man cackles out loud again, as he fires his mud arms at Lo-Jo, Morg, Pike, Doromir and Deletos. A sloshing sound occurs, as mud shoots out from the Mud Man’s arms, splashing all over the pirates, Doromir and Deletos who react in disgust.

MORG
(shocked) “My clothes! Mud! They’ve covered in mud!”

PIKE
(shocked) “Don’t moan and complain taking all the credit, Morg! I’ve got it on me too!”

DR. NETT
(mockingly) “Did you enjoy that, pirates?!”

The Mud Man laughs out loud mockingly, as the Doctor, Dynda and Jason remain un-attacked.

DYNDA
(cries) “Stop this, Gun! Leave them alone!”

DOCTOR
“What do you want, Dr. Nett? I can help you! Get you back to your normal [self…”]

DR. NETT
(mockingly) “Sorry, Doctor! But you won’t be helping anyone! For I…the Mud Man…have allies! And I have instructed them…” (grovels) “…to kill you!”

The Mud Man becomes mud again, as he rises up cackling with laughter. He then charges at the Doctor.

DYNDA
(cries) “Doctor, look out! He’s coming for you!”

But the Doctor manages to dodge out of the way. The Mud Man misses him.

DOCTOR
(to Dynda) “Thanks, Dynda!”

JASON
(anxiously) “Oh no! We’ve got company! Doctor; Dynda, look!”

The Doctor and Dynda look to see what Jason’s seen. The Gren savages approach, led by Elar-Jom and Antuss, as they charge up the tree-tops, yelling and howling.

ANTUSS
(shouts) “There he is! That Doctor!”

ELAR-JOM
(yells) “Kill him everybody! He must be killed! KILL HIM!”

The Mud Man turns round, as he and the Gren savages charge forward to approach the Doctor, Dynda and Jason.

DYNDA
(cries) “Doctor! Those savages and Nett! They’re going to get us!”

JASON
(anxiously) “To attack us! What can we do?!”

DOCTOR
(shouts) “Duck! Dynda; Jason, now! Duck!”

The Doctor, Dynda and Jason duck, as the Mud Man and the Gren savages advance, howling and yelling as they go.

SCENE #75 – EXT – ALESKI, JUNGLOS – DATE: 4198 – DAY, AFTERNOON
In the torture playground of the Gren village in Aleski, Nyssa is being beaten up by the Gren savages. She cries out in agony, as the beating’s fierce and merciless and Nyssa can’t bear it.

NYSSA
(cries; pleads) “Stop! Please, stop! Stop beating me!”

But no-one listens to her, as Nyssa is being knocked and kicked about by wild Gren savage men who show no mercy. Hoots and chants are made by Gren savages mocking Nyssa. Ja-Ara then comes by to watch this abuse and she chortles away, mocking at Nyssa.

JA-ARA
(gloats) “What’s the matter, little girl?! Aren’t you enjoying yourself in our little playground?”

NYSSA
(cries; pleads) “Please, stop it! Leave me alone!”

Nyssa tries to break free, but is kept being beaten up by the Gren savages as she’s thrown to the floor. Everyone mocks Nyssa by howling and spitting on her.

JA-ARA
(cruelly) “She shall suffer for the rest of her pretty smelly life!”

SOR
“Just like I hoped she would! Those Pinators got a good meal out of her!”

JA-ARA
(bitterly) “Shut up, Sor!”

JOR-ELIV
(out loud) “The girl is ready, Ja-Ara!”

JA-ARA
“Good!”

Nyssa lies on the ground groaning, as she becomes breathless; ill and in terrible agony.

JA-ARA
(shouts; to Billy) “Take her to the sacrificial altar!”

Some of the Gren savages pick Nyssa up roughly from the ground to take her away. At that moment…

BILLY
(shouts) “No! Let her go, you scoundrels!”

JA-ARA
(angrily) “WHAT?! WHO SAID THAT?!”

Just then, someone pushes his way the Gren savages crowds. It is Billy, as he uses his knife threateningly to push his way through the crowd to reach Nyssa. Once he’s through the crowd, he points his knife at the Gren savages.

BILLY
(cries; threateningly) “Stay away, all of you! I’ll kill anyone who touches Nyssa with this knife I have!”

NYSSA
(cries) “Billy! Help me!”

BILLY
(relieved) “Nyssa!”

Sor then recognises Billy.

SOR
(cries) “It’s him! It’s that boy! Who was with the girl! He’s with her, I tell you!”

Ja-Ara then leaps out howling wildly, as she strikes Billy brutally in the face. Billy gets knocked down, as he falls to the ground.

NYSSA
(horrified) “No! Billy, wake up! Billy!”

Billy groans as he’s on the floor.

JA-ARA
(yells) “I saw him in the jungle too! I left him for dead!” (cries) “Take his knife, someone!”

Billy tries to defend himself, as he gets up slowly whilst the Gren savages surround him.

NYSSA
(cries) “Billy! Look out!”

But Nyssa’s cry of warning comes too late, as a Gren spear strikes Billy in the arm. Billy cries out in pain, as he drops the knife to the ground.

BILLY
(annoyed; anxiously) “No!”

Billy picks up the knife again from the ground, but it’s kicked out of his hand by Ja-Ara.

BILLY
(cries) “My knife!”

Ja-Ara then punches Billy in the face brutally. She wildly keeps on punching him.

NYSSA
(shouts) “No! Don’t hurt him! You monsters!”

Billy gets kicked in the stomach by another Gren savage and is then thrown to the floor by Ja-Ara. Some Gren savages laugh mockingly at him.

NYSSA
(cries; encouragingly) “Billy! You’re strong! Get up! Don’t let them get to you!”

Billy is unable to move, as he’s disorientated. Ja-Ara steps forward, becoming angry and determined.

JA-ARA
(shouts) “The boy must have his face cracked and be bleeding! Beat the living daylights out of him! Beat him, I say! Beat him! Whip him!”

Billy is then kicked and beaten up some violent wild Gren savage men, as he lies on the ground. He cries out in agony, whilst this happens.

BILLY
(cries) “Nyssa! I’m …”

Billy’s reassuring words to Nyssa are replaced by cries of agony.

NYSSA
(shouts) “No! Stop it! You’re killing him! You’re killing my Billy!”

JA-ARA
(wildly) “THAT’S RIGHT! DON’T STOP UNTIL HE’S DEAD! KILL HIM! KILL HIM! KILL HIM!!!!!”

NYSSA
(shouts) “NO!!!”

Ja-Ara’s wild berating words and Nyssa’s pleas get mixed in with each other, as the Gren savages keep on beating Billy terribly whilst he’s helpless.
