‘Doom of the Daleks’, Part Four, Chapter 14

Fifth Doctor

14. Passing the Perimeter

SCENE #159 – INT – EMPEROR DALEK’S CHAMBER – 26TH CENTURY – NIGHT
On Yondamus Prime in the Emperor Dalek’s Chamber, everything shudders violently as earthquake-like tremors occur. A few Daleks including the Emperor Dalek’s guards scatter and skittle about the chamber and panic as they go around in random directions.

DALEKS
HELP! OUT OF CONTROL! HELP ME! HELP ME! OUT OF CONTROL! OUT OF CONTROL!

The Emperor Dalek sees these incidents occurring and addresses the Agent Dalek who is now the Supreme Dalek Mark #2.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms; panics) WHAT IS HAPPENING? WHY ARE UNITS LOSING CONTROL?

AGENT DALEK
EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! GRAVITATIONAL COLLAPSE OF ORBITAL STRUCTURE HAS CAUSED CONSIDERABLE COLLATERAL TO THIS PLANET.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms; panics) EXPLAIN!

AGENT DALEK
ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECOLOGICAL CONDITIONS ARE DETERIORATING.

DALEK EMPEROR GUARD
REPORTS ARE ENTERING. DALEK CASUALTIES SUFFERING FROM EARTHQUAKES, VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS, TSUNAMIS. THE PLANET IS DESTABILISING.

AGENT DALEK
WE MUST EVACUATE! EVACUATE THIS PLANET IMMEDIATELY!

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) NO! THIS PLANET IS OUR BATTLE MACHINE! WE SHALL NOT FALTER IN OUR DESTINATION!

AGENT DALEK
BUT IF THE PLANET LOSES INTEGRAL STRUCTURE ALTOGETHER, WE CAN-NOT SURVIVE!

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) WE WILL GO ON! DALEKS WILL TRIUMPH! THE BATTLEFIELD BETWEEN THE TWO YONDAMON PLANETS WILL TAKE US! NOTHING CAN STOP THE DALEKS! NOTHING! NOTHING! NOTHING!!!!!

The Daleks continue on their course in space, despite the environmental and ecological catastrophes occurring on Yondamus Prime.

SCENE #160 – INT – CORRIDOR, DALEK PATROL SHIP – 26TH CENTURY – NIGHT
Back on the Dalek Patrol Ship on Yondamus IV, Nyssa, Billy and Hilda continue their escape down the corridor.

BILLY
“Which way now?”

NYSSA
“Down here. We should be able to get out through this corridor to the main ramp.”

BILLY
“I really hate to say this but it would be good if we had a gun to stop any Daleks getting in our way.”

NYSSA
“Well when you see one Billy, take it at the first instance.”

HILDA
“Hush, you two!”

BILLY
(puzzled) “What is it?”

HILDA
“Listen! Listen!”

Nyssa; Billy and Hilda listen, as ferocious sounds of battle occur nearby. First there are death rays fired from Dalek guns; then gunshots fired from horrendous tornado-charged rifles of  Dwaxi troopers. The Daleks shriek with horror and agony as they get fired upon by the Dwaxi.

BILLY
“Sounds like some battle going on outside.”

NYSSA
(insistently) “Come on! We can’t stay here!”

Nyssa leads Billy and Hilda on, before a Dalek appears around the corner. It is the Dalek Hunter.

DALEK HUNTER
“HALT! YOU WILL COME WITH ME! YOU WILL NOT ESCAPE THE DALEKS!”

BILLY
(to Nyssa) “We must go back!”

DALEK HUNTER
“RESISTANCE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! FOLLOW ME OR YOU WILL BE EXT….”

But before the Dalek Hunter finishes, it gets blown up by a Dwaxi trooper’s rifle. The Dalek shrieks out loud as its casing explodes outwards and the mutant creatures inside writhes with agony. It tentacles wiggle about in the air before the Dalek mutant dies.

BILLY
(relieved) Thank goodness! I didn’t have to get a gun after all!

HILDA
(puzzled) Who on earth is that?

The Dwaxi trooper who fired on the Dalek Hunter reloads her Dwaxi rifle. Nyssa; Billy and Hilda look to see who has saved their lives. It is Nina.

NYSSA
(thrilled) It’s Nina! Oh thank goodness, it’s Nina!

NINA
(chillingly) Yes, Nyssa. It’s Nina alright.

NYSSA
(relieved) Nina, I’m so glad you’re alive. I thought…

Nina then charges her rifle at Nyssa; Billy and Hilda with malicious intent.

BILLY
(startled) “Hey?! What’s she doing? I thought she helped us!”

NYSSA
(realises; distressed) “Oh no!”

HILDA
“What is it?”

NYSSA
(distressed) “Oh no, Nina! Not you as well.”

NINA
(menacingly) “You will come with me! You will be taken back to our Dwaxi headquarters!”

NYSSA
“They turned you into one of them too. Just like Jack!”

Jack then appears behind Nina.

JACK
(menacingly) “That’s right, pretty girl! Now someone move along before someone gets killed?”

Distressed, Nyssa; Billy and Hilda are taken prisoners again by Dwaxi Jack and Dwaxi Nina.

SCENE #161 – EXT – YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
In outer space, the Moonraker slows to impulse speed as it is about to enter Yondamus space and make for Yondamus IV. Blocking the Moonraker’s path, are a fleet of Dwaxi ships protecting the perimeter.

SCENE #162 – INT – MAIN BRIDGE, MOONRAKER – 26TH CENTURY – NIGHT
On the bridge of the Moonraker, a hailing frequency emanates from the security control panel. The female lieutenant picks it up.

FEMALE LIEUTENANT
We’re being hailed by one of the Dwaxi ships, Captain.

CAPTAIN
On screen, Lieutenant.

The Female Lieutenant obeys the Captain’s orders, as the view-screen gets activated to show the face of the Dwaxi Fleet Leader.

DWAXI FLEET LEADER
(gloatingly) I am the leader of the Dwaxi fleet patrolling this sector! What do you want?

CAPTAIN
I’m Captain Sulley of the starship Moonraker. We wish to pass and make for Yondamus Four!

DWAXI FLEET LEADER
This is Dwaxi territory now! And if I understand it correctly Captain, you are not welcome here! You were warned not to return here unless you and your crew wish to suffer the might and power of…

DOCTOR
(interrupts) Yes, yes, yes. You’ve made your point! But I have friends on that planet…

DWAXI FLEET LEADER
(shouts) I don’t care! No discussion or negotiation will be made! No compromise!

CAPTAIN
Surely there must be something that your Commander would want in exchange for safe entry into…

DWAXI FLEET LEADER
“We do not make exchanges! They’re for wimps!”

CAPTAIN
“I can’t see how this conversation…”

The Dwaxi Fleet Leader abruptly breaks communications and the transmission ends.

ELAINE
“He’s broken off communication, sir.”

CAPTAIN
(bitterly) “Unreasonable jerks!”

DOCTOR
“Hurling insults at our enemy won’t get us anywhere, Captain. I need to get to Yondamus Four immediately.”

CAPTAIN
“I would like nothing better than to take us to Yondamus Four, Doctor. But as you saw…”

DOCTOR
“You don’t understand, Captain. If I we made it to Yondamus Four, I might be able to find the antigen we need to slow down these Dwaxi.”

CAPTAIN
You’re onto a cure then.

DOCTOR
Not as such. But I do have a theory that if we reach their Dwaxi base of operations, we might learn something about any inherent weakness.

Just then, a warning signal echoes.

ELAINE
Captain? The Dwaxi fleet is powering up its weapon banks. They’re locking weapons.

DOCTOR
On us?

ELAINE
No. On them!

The Doctor; Captain Sulley; Elaine and the rest of the bridge crew look to the view-screen. They see the Dwaxi ships firing onto the approaching Dalek ships in space.

CAPTAIN
Daleks!

DOCTOR
So they’ve managed to catch up with us then!

SCENE #163 – EXT – YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
In Yondamus space, the Dalek ships fire on the Dwaxi fleet with their weapon as they are tremendously determined. But the Dwaxi vessels pound their enormous firepower back onto the Dalek ships and blow them up easily into space without a struggle. The Dalek ship sget battered and smashed and the Daleks aboard cry out loud in agony.

SCENE #164 – INT – MAIN BRIDGE, MOONRAKER – 26TH CENTURY – NIGHT
Back on the bridge on the Moonraker, everyone watches the battle between the Daleks and the Dwaxi in space.

ELAINE
Captain, we must get out of the Daleks’ and Dwaxi firing range! We’ll be caught in the blast!

CAPTAIN
“The planet Yondamus Prime will be here shortly, Commander. We might not be able to get our chance to escape so easily.”

DOCTOR
(realises) “Of course! I’ve forgotten it!”

ELAINE
“Doctor? You’ve forgotten what?”

DOCTOR
(to Captain) “Captain, I need to get to the surface of Yondamus Prime. Could you beam there directly?”

CAPTAIN
“Why? What for, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
“I have some equipment which will get me to Yondamus Four. The Daleks took it off your ship whilst Elaine and I were held prisoner.”

ELAINE
“Your blue box, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
Yes. I’ve just realised my TARDIS is still on the planet held by the Daleks. I must get to it immediately!

CAPTAIN
But how will you find it, Doctor? The Daleks must have kept it under storage where you won’t find it.

DOCTOR
The Daleks don’t know I’ve got this!

The Doctor takes out a homing device from his coat pocket. He switches it on and it beeps persistently.

ELAINE
What’s that?

DOCTOR
TARDIS homing device. Hopefully giving the right co-ordinates. You Captain can beam me to where the TARDIS is. Then I take off in it and get to Yondamus Four safely.

CAPTAIN
“Now just a minute, Doctor. As Captain…”

Elaine steps forward.

ELAINE
(interrupts) “I’m coming with you, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
“Ah, I don’t think that’s a good idea…”

ELAINE
“You said you needed me Doctor. You needed me to help you find an antigen to the Dwaxi drug.”

DOCTOR
“Well yes, but…”

ELAINE
“And if you remember Doctor, you’re still my responsibility. I have to see to it you are brought back to the Moonraker safely.”

DOCTOR
(slightly annoyed) “Oh alright.” (to Captain) “Captain? Will you beam me and Elaine to the surface of Yondamus Prime?”

CAPTAIN
(hesitates) “Oh, very well. But report to me as soon as you’ve landed on Yondamus Four.”

ELAINE
“Yes, Captain.”

CAPTAIN
“Alright.” (to Doctor) “Doctor, if you’ll give me the co-ordinates from your homing beacon.”

SCENE #165 – EXT – YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
In outer space, Yondamus Prime makes it journey to Yondamus IV as the planet is about to enter the perimeter. As the planet approaches, Dalek ships and the Dwaxi fleet continue to battle it out with each other. The planet slows to a stop. The ecological disasters on the planet’s surface are evident, as Yondamus Prime’s tectonic plates break up.

SCENE #166 – INT – EMPEROR DALEK’S CHAMBER – 26TH CENTURY – NIGHT
In the Emperor Dalek’s Chamber on Yondamus Prime, the Agent Dalek reports to the Emperor Dalek.

AGENT DALEK
“WE HAVE APPROACHED THE PERIMETER OF THIS SPACE FOR YONDAMUS FOUR. THE DWAXI FLEET HAS COME TO MEET US!”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “WE WILL PASS THROUGH THE DWAXI FLEET! THE PLANET SHALL BE THE BARRICADE AGAINST THE OPPOSITION!”

An alarm goes off very loudly. The Daleks to scatter about in a panic. The Agent glides over to a control panels to assess what the alarm’s about.

AGENT DALEK
ALERT! ALERT! MATERIALISATION IN PROGRESS! WE HAVE INTRUDERS! INTRUDERS! INTRUDERS!

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) LOCATE AND EXTERMINATE THE INTRUDERS! CONTINUE THE EXPEDITION TO YONDAMUS FOUR! WE WILL NOT FALTER IN OUR MISSION!

AGENT DALEK
I OBEY!

The Agent Dalek obeys the Emperor Dalek, as it heads out to find the intruders.

SCENE #167 – EXT – YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
Meanwhile, the Dalek occupied planet of Yondamus Prime passes through the Dwaxi fleet. It crushes every ship in its path with its gravitational force. Only half of the Dwaxi fleet manages to escape as each ship fires on the planet from all sides. .

SCENE #168 – INT – DALEK STORAGE CHAMBER #8 – 26TH CENTURY – NIGHT
In one of the Dalek storage chambers on Yondamus Prime, the Doctor and Elaine beam in via teleport. Once they’ve arrived, they take in their surroundings.

ELAINE
“How are we going to find your blue box among this lot, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
(intrigued) “It’s a wonder the Daleks are able to store so much.”

ELAINE
(disgusted) “Not to mention morbid. There are rotting corpses here! It’s so ghastly!”

DOCTOR
“Never mind about that. Come on! Let’s go down here.”

They begin to search the storage chamber. A while later…

ELAINE
“Are you sure it’s in here?”

DOCTOR
“Positive. The TARDIS homing beacon never lets me down when I wish to find her!” (Pause; realises) “Aha! There is it!”

The Doctor and Elaine run towards the TARDIS once they see it before them. The Doctor takes out the key and puts into the lock of the TARDIS door.

ELAINE
“We won’t be able to fit in there, Doctor! It’s too small!”

DOCTOR
“You wait and see.”

Suddenly the storage chamber doors slide open, as the Daleks enter.

ELAINE
“Doctor! Hurry up and open that door!”

The Agent Dalek leads the Daleks into the storage chamber.

AGENT DALEK
“YOU WILL REMAIN WHERE YOU ARE! HALT! HALT! OR YOU WILL BE DESTROYED!”

The Doctor finally opens the TARDIS door.

DOCTOR
“Now! Get in!”

The Doctor pushes Elaine in, as both he and she get inside the TARDIS. They shut the doors behind them once they’re in.

AGENT DALEK
“STOP THEM! STOP THEM! FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!!!”

The Daleks open fire with their weapons at the TARDIS. But the blue box quickly dematerializes, as the TARDIS whooshes and chuffs away, vanishing off into time and space. Once the TARDIS is gone, the Agent Dalek turns to the other Daleks.

AGENT DALEK
“INFORM THE EMPEROR THAT THE DOC-TOR HAS ESCAPED IN HIS TARDIS. HE WILL MAKE FOR YONDAMUS FOUR. HE WILL DO THE TASK WE HAVE SET FOR HIM! HE WILL FIND THE ANTIGEN FOR THE DWAXI DRUG AND EXTERMINATE THEM!”

SCENE #169 – EXT – YONDAMUS IV LANDING GROUND – 26TH CENTURY – NIGHT
On Yondamus IV, the TARDIS materialises on the landing ground close to where the Micros Warehouse Estate is. The TARDIS whooshes and grinds before making a loud thump as it lands. The Doctor then steps out, followed by Elaine.

DOCTOR
(assuredly) “Right. Now I have the sample of the Yentias drug with me so that means we should be able to…” (realises) “Elaine?”

The Doctor sees Elaine distracted as she looks at the TARDIS and prods her.

DOCTOR
“Elaine?”

ELAINE
(staggered) “Sorry, Doctor?”

DOCTOR
“You were just staring at my TARDIS.”

ELAINE
It’s…its amazing! I just can’t believe it! It really is a space ship. A ship bigger on the inside…

DOCTOR
(impatiently) Yes, yes. I know, I know. Now could we please get on, Commander?!

The Doctor walks forward and Elaine follows behind him. She stumbles as she goes.

ELAINE
Doctor? How on earth are you going to find an antigen to this drug anyway?

DOCTOR
Ah! That I will find out in due course.

ELAINE
You mean you have no idea?

DOCTOR
(insistently) Get down!

ELAINE
What?

DOCTOR
“Get down! Behind this wall”

Both the Doctor and Elaine run to a wall and hide behind it. A Dalek glides by as it searches for something. It stops in its tracks for a moment, swiveling its eyestalk around to survey the area. Eventually it moves off as and glides in the opposite direction from where the Doctor and Elaine are. The Doctor and Elaine sigh with relief, as they step out from hiding behind the wall.

DOCTOR
“It’s alright. The Dalek’s gone!”

ELAINE
“Why would they be here anyway? The Dalek fleet hasn’t arrived yet surely!”

DOCTOR
“They were the patrol sent out to find Billy, remember? Before that first Dalek patrol failed in its mission.” (Pause) “That’s why I wanted to come on this planet. To see to it that Nyssa and Billy are safe and sound in the TARDIS.”

ELAINE
(realises) “You weren’t intent to find an antigen to the Dwaxi drug, were you?”

DOCTOR
“Believe me, Elaine. If there was any way that I could help I would.”

ELAINE
“You had no intention of helping us at all, did you? What kind of a man are you?”

DOCTOR
“A man who knows a lot more things than you, Elaine.”

ELAINE
“What’s that supposed to mean?”

DOCTOR
“There are things greater at stake here than anyone can realise. Things which time cannot be altered. Yourself; your Captain; the Dwaxi and the Daleks. You’re all fixed points in time, Elaine.” (Pause) “A great event is going to occur here in this sector of space. And you’re part of it.”

ELAINE
“Stop talking gibberish, Doctor. This doesn’t explain why you won’t help in finding the antigen to destroy the Dwaxi.”

DOCTOR
“Oh it does. Believe me, Elaine! I have every intention to set things right concerning the Dwaxi. But not like this. Not when I know a major event is going to take place.”

ELAINE
“A major event?”

DOCTOR
“Concerning the rift!”

ELAINE
“You mean…the rift is the big problem and not the antigen. Well, why didn’t you tell the Captain that?”

DOCTOR
“Because I had a feeling he wouldn’t listen to me.”

ELAINE
“Then why not me? Why didn’t you tell me?”

Gun fire echoes close by, interrupting the Doctor and Elaine’s conversation.

DOCTOR
“Come on! Let’s see if we can find Billy and Nyssa.”

ELAINE
“I need to let Captain Sulley know that we’ve arrived on [Yondamus IV…]”

Before they can move on further, they are caught at gunpoint by Dwaxi troopers who laugh and jeer at them. They are led by the Blockade.

BLOCKADE
(yells) “STAY WHERE YOU ARE! DON’T MAKE ANY SUDDEN MOVES, YOU WIMPS! DON’T MAKE ANY SUDDEN MOVES!!!”

DOCTOR
“Dwaxi?”

ELAINE
“I think our path in destiny has already been made for us, Doctor!”

The Doctor and Elaine stay still before they get moved off by the Dwaxi. They are unaware that Sandy the Globtol Ferrocia is watching close by in hiding, making low growls.

SCENE #170 – INT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – NIGHT
In the Micros warehouse as the Dwaxi headquarters, Nyssa; Billy and Hilda are brought in and taken captive by the Dwaxi Jack and the Dwaxi Nina.

NYSSA
(to Nina) “Nina, I’m so sorry!”

NINA
(gleefully) “Sorry? Sorry for what? I’m happier than I’ve ever been! And it’s because of these lovely boys!”

NYSSA
(determined) “Nina, you don’t know what you’re saying! The Dwaxi have brainwashed you, you’re thinking like them. Fight the conditioning they’ve done to you!”

JACK
(viciously) “You shut up! Dwaxi treat their prisoners without mercy! You shall get a real battering from the Dwaxi commander when he shows up! You wish you’d gone to hell and be glad of your suffering!”

BILLY
“These are the people that you told me about, Nyssa? The ones who helped you to escape?”

NYSSA
(to Billy) “They weren’t like this when I met them, Billy. Not the real Jack and Nina! They were kind! Considerate!” (to Nina) “Nina, you’ve helped to save people’s lives. That’s what you do. You’re a doctor of medicine.”

NINA
(bitterly) “I don’t care about people’s lives! They’re dull and boring! I only think of myself and how I live! Me! Me! Me!”

NYSSA
(to Jack) “Jack. You helped me to escape from that Dwaxi prison cell. The skills you have are essential. Surely you must remember wanting to escape to be free from the Dwaxi!”

JACK
(defiantly) “That was all in the past! I wish to beat the living daylights out of people now! That’s what a Dwaxi was made for. To fight; crush and kill! Death is victory!”

NINA
“That’s our new motto in being a Dwaxi.”

NINA; JACK
(chants) “Death is victory! DEATH IS VICTORY!”

HILDA
“You guys seriously need therapy.”

Just then, Targah and Gabrog enter.

TARGAH
(mocks) “How are our prisoners, ‘little’ troopers?”

NINA
(shocked) “Little? You call us…?”

JACK
(interjects) “They are well-behaved, Commander. Though they do complain a lot!”

GABROG
“About moral principles I expect!”

JACK
“Yes!”

TARGAH
“So predictable!”

BILLY
(angrily) “You big bullies! What have you done to these two…?”

JACK
(bitterly) “Oh shut up, you twerp!”

NYSSA
“It’s the drugs, isn’t it? Your drugs have influenced them to think like you. To be angry and violent!”

GABROG
“We do not discuss our properties or product transactions with our prisoners and enemies. They are our concern.”

HILDA
“So much for decency! Do you know how much it hurts to carry babies whilst you gloat and mock us?”

TARGAH
(puzzled) “Babies? What babies?”

HILDA
“These babies, here!”

Hilda opens up the cot containing her babies inside. They wail away crying whilst inside.

HILDA
“See? They’re so little! And so beautiful! They shouldn’t be listening…”

TARGAH
(disgusted) “Disgusting!”

HILDA
“What?”

TARGAH
(barks) “Troopers! Kill them!”

Dwaxi troopers Jack and Nina re-load their weapons. Billy and Nyssa quickly stand in front of the babies and Hilda.

BILLY
(shocked) “No! Are you bonkers?!”

NYSSA
“You can’t kill them! It’s murder!”

BILLY
“Yeah! They’re only little children!”

TARGAH
“Gabrog!”

GABROG
“Troopers! Set arms to kill!”

JACK
(gleefully) “Yes, sir.”

Dwaxi troopers Jack and Nina set their rifles to kill as they train them on the babies.

HILDA
(pleads) “Please! Not my babies!”

BILLY
(protests) “You can’t do this! You just can’t!”

TARGAH
“Both of you! Move out the way!”

NYSSA
(adamantly) “No! We won’t let you hurt them!”

TARGAH
(angrily) “MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OR MY TROOPERS WILL KILL YOU TOO!!!!”

DOCTOR
(loudly; interrupts) “Excuse me! Those people are my friends! You’ll have to deal with me before you harm them!”

Targah turns around to see the Doctor and Elaine escorted into the warehouse by the Blockade.

TARGAH
“What’s this?”

DOCTOR
“Ah! I’m glad you asked [that…]”

The Blockade shoves the Doctor and Elaine in.

BLOCKADE
(yells) “COME ON, YOU TWO! MOVE IT!”

GABROG
(to Jack; Nina) “Troopers! Hold fire!”

JACK
(protests) “But we haven’t!”

GABROG
(yells; angrily) “I said ‘hold fire’!”

Both Jack and Nina grudgingly lower their weapons.

NINA
“Oh, what a pity! I was so looking forward to using my gun!”

Both Nyssa and Billy see who has been escorted into the warehouse by the Blockade.

NYSSA
(relieved) “Doctor! You’re alive!”

DOCTOR
“Nyssa; Billy! So glad to see you alive and well!”

BILLY
“You too, Doctor! Got here in the nick of time, didn’t you?”

HILDA
“I’ll say he did! He saved my children!”

BILLY
(realises) “Oh! Hello, Elaine!”

ELAINE
“Hello, Billy. Good to see you too again!”

BILLY
“Likewise, thanks.”

As the Doctor and Elaine approach, Targah regards them with disgust.

TARGAH
(to Blockade) “What are these, Blockade?”

ELAINE
“Whom, don’t you mean?”

BLOCKADE
(yells) “OUR TROOPERS FOUND THEM WALKING ABOUT THE PLAINS! THEY MUST BE SPIES!”

DOCTOR
“No, not spies! A rescue party!” (at Nyssa; Billy) “Mainly rescuing these two.”

NYSSA
“Doctor, what happened to you? The Daleks have been…”

DOCTOR
“Yes Nyssa, I know about the Daleks. And I’d prefer not to have any more to do with them.”

BILLY
(apologetically) “Doctor, I’m really sorry! About what happened on the Moonraker. I was…”

DOCTOR
“Forget it, Billy. I understand.”

BILLY
“Really?”

DOCTOR
“I would have done the same thing myself. And I think you’re rather brave.”

BILLY
“Thank you, Doctor.”

DOCTOR
(hurt) “But there was really no need to kick me in the shin.”

NYSSA
(appalled) “Billy?! You kicked the Doctor in the shin?”

BILLY
“I’ll explain later.”

ELAINE
(shocked) “Jack; Nina? What have they done to you?”

NINA
(mockingly) “Ah Elaine. Are you doing okay? Sure you don’t need another medical check-up?”

ELAINE
“What?”

JACK
(mockingly) “Though we think you should try this Yentias drug that the Dwaxi have here. It’s really good. And you don’t have to worry about a thing.”

NINA
(coldly) “Not ever.”

ELAINE
(shocked) “Doctor, what have they done to them?”

DOCTOR
“Pre-emptive conditioning. It’s the Dwaxi way of making innocent and vulnerable victims become like that!”

TARGAH
“And you have a problem with that, Doctor? Cos we don’t!”

GABROG
“The Empire is invincible! No faults!”

DOCTOR
(fiercely) “Oh yes! No faults! Just a lack of a good sense of manners! All you do in life is beating up people; conditioning people with drugs and being trigger-happy to the point of insanity! It really doesn’t hurt to have a few good manners. To be gentle; to be kind and considerate! But that’s not your way of thinking, is it?”

TARGAH
“Shut up!”

DOCTOR
“Because all you do is being glorified in your violence! Never stopping! Never thinking! The brains of a Dwaxi are without any imagination or fulfilment. You’re just a group of mindless petty thugs!”

TARGAH
(proudly) “And we’re so glad to have that privilege!”

DOCTOR
“And I strongly oppose that!”

GABROG
“It doesn’t matter how you react to that! You are nothing! We are rulers! We’re the new bosses! We tell people what to do!”

TARGAH
(angrily) “I wanted to say that!”

GABROG
(yells; retorts) “Well tough! Cos I said it first!”

Targah and Gabrog start fighting each other.

DOCTOR
“You see now, that’s where you make your big mistake. No faults you say? Well, that’s an understatement.”

NYSSA
(determined) “The violence you cause here only brings chaos. And chaos causes destruction. Destruction causes disorder.”

BILLY
“And disorder means loss of empire.”

NYSSA
“Exactly! Fear; hate; suffering. They’re all part of a potential downfall of a person or people.”

GABROG
(self-confident) “Ah, but we are not so fallible!”

DOCTOR
(unconvinced) “Oh no? Enlighten us then? How do you achieve to be so mighty and have no faults?”

TARGAH
“We don’t need to explain to you about our strength.”

Blockade then steps forward.

BLOCKADE
(shouts) “COMMANDER! THE RIFT IS EXPANDING! ALL OUR FORCES HAVE BEEN SENT THROUGH!”

TARGAH
(angrily) “Shut up, Blockade!”

DOCTOR
(realises) “Ah! So that’s your answer to your ‘faultless’ empire. The rift in time and space. You expect to use that rift to achieve your advantage.”

GABROG
“The Dwaxi have a destiny to fulfil. We are part of a destination paradox. One that can never be overwritten. But we are to fulfil it. In the glorious reign of the Dwaxi.”

NYSSA
(puzzled) “Destination paradox? But that logic…”

GABROG
“The Daleks have provided us with the advantage! Since they’re the ones who invaded our space in the first place.”

ELAINE
“But…I thought the Daleks said you invaded them. They told us so. Me and the Doctor.”

BLOCKADE
(yells) “LIES! THE DALEKS INVADED US! THEY HAD NO RIGHT TO WHERE THEY SAID THEY SHOULD BE! SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT ‘EXTERMINATING!’ US TO GET THEIR WAY! WELL WE WEREN’T HAVING THAT!”

DOCTOR
“So, the Daleks invaded your space and that’s where the destruction and chaos started. Typical Dalek blackmail.”

ELAINE
“You mean…we’ve been duped by the Daleks.”

DOCTOR
“Apparently so. And now we know why the Dwaxi shouldn’t be here in the first place. Because of the Daleks.”

TARGAH
(angrily) “Enough! The prisoners have heard enough! Take them away!”

The Doctor; Nyssa; Billy; Elaine and Hilda as Jack and Nina roughly take them away. Then, all at once…

DALEKS
(chants) “EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!!”

The Daleks enter the warehouse and open fire with their ray guns. The Dwaxi react aggressively and fire back with their weapon. The Dwaxi howl with rage.

BILLY
(surprised) “Daleks? How did they get here?”

NYSSA
“Perhaps there were more Daleks patrolling here than we first thought.”

BILLY
“But surely the Dwaxi would have destroyed them all. With those mad heads they’ve got.”

DOCTOR
(realises) “No. It’s happened. The Dalek army has arrived. Yondamus Prime is in orbit.”

Dwaxi Jack and Dwaxi Nina prod them with their weapons.

JACK
(cruelly) “No time for chit-chat! Get a move on!”

NINA
“Yes, get a move on! I want to see some action!”

Just then, Nina screams as she gets hit by a Dalek’s death pain. She’s electrocuted with pain, as she collapses to the floor.

JACK
(cries) “No!”

Jack falls to the floor beside Nina and cradles her in her arms.

NYSSA
(shocked) “Nina! The Daleks shot Nina!”

DOCTOR
(insistently) “Come on! We must get out of this warehouse.”

The Doctor takes Nyssa away with him. Billy; Elaine and Hilda follow.

BLOCKADE
(screams) “LOOK! THE PRISONERS! DON’T LET THEM GET AWAY!”

Just as the Doctor and his friends try to escape; Sandy the Globtol Ferroca appears. He roars loudly as he signals to them.

HILDA
(joyously) “Sandy! Good old Sandy!”

DOCTOR
(puzzled) “What?”

HILDA
“Boco’s old pet! He’s telling us to follow him. He must know a way out!”

BILLY
“Then let’s go!”

NYSSA
“Indeed!”

DOCTOR
(to Hilda) “What’s your name?”

HILDA
(startled) “H, sir. Hilda H. Widower now. Used to have a husband…”

The Doctor shakes hands with Hilda.

DOCTOR
(cheerfully) “Glad to meet you, Hilda H. Come on! Let’s follow your Globtol!”

The Doctor; Nyssa; Billy; Elaine and Hilda run after and follow Sandy out of the warehouse.

BLOCKADE
(yells) “SEE! THEY’RE GETTING AWAY!”

GABROG
“They’re still our prisoners! They must be stopped!”

BLOCKADE
(yells; bitterly) “YOU’RE TOO SLOW, GABROG! THEY’LL NEVER OUTRUN ME!”

Blockade runs after and chases the escapees. He passes Jack, who is on the floor and mourns for Nina who is dead on the floor.

JACK
(sobs) “No. You can’t be dead, Nina! Nina?” (screams) “NINA!!!”

Jack continues to mourn, whilst the Daleks chant…

DALEKS
(chants) “EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!!”

…fire their weapons. However, the Dwaxi troopers batter up the Daleks’ casings and smash them to pieces. The Daleks squirm and shriek once they’ve been battered upon. The battle continues with Daleks and Dwaxi inside the warehouse.

SCENE #171 – EXT – YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
In deep space, Yondamus Prime approaches Yondamus IV. Both planets are in close proximity with each other. The planet surface of Yondamus Prime become unstable with environmental and ecological disasters occuring. The Daleks approach the atmosphere of Yondamus IV with callous determination. Dwaxi ships and Dalek ships battle it out with each other as the Dwaxi defend themselves with tremendous firepower with the Daleks attacking them. The Daleks are pitiless but start to weaken in numbers as the Dwaxi forces are unbearable.

SCENE #172 – INT – EMPEROR DALEK’S CHAMBER – 26TH CENTURY – NIGHT
In the Emperor Dalek’s Chamber, the Agent Dalek (now Supreme Dalek Mark #2) reports to the Emperor Dalek.

AGENT DALEK
PLANET YONDAMUS PRIME HAS REACHED ITS FINAL DESTINATION! ALL DALEK UNITS HAVE CONVERGED ON PLANET YONDAMUS FOUR WITH IMMEDIATE INTENT.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) EXCELLENT! SEE TO IT THAT THE DWAXI FORCES ARE OBLITERATED! NO LIVING THING MUST SURVIVE. ONLY DALEK LIFE-FORMS SHALL ENDURE!

AGENT DALEK
I OBEY!

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) HOW IS THE PROGRESS OF THE DALEK FLEET? DO THEY REPORT SUCCESS?

AGENT DALEK
DALEK VESSELS HAVE MANAGED TO PENETRATE YONDAMUS FOUR’S ATMOSPHERE. MOST OF THE DALEK FLEET HAS BEEN DESTROYED BY THE DWAXI. THE MOTHERSHIP HAS RECEIVED SIXTY-NINE PER CENT DAMAGE AND IS INCREASING. STABILITY OF THE DALEK FLEET WON’T LAST MUCH LONGER.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) NO MATTER. WHAT IS THE CONDITION OF YONDAMUS PRIME’S STABILITY?

AGENT DALEK
“DETERIORATING! WE ARE LOSING LIFE SUPPORT ALL OVER THE PLANET! DALEK UNITS ARE SUFFERING UNSTABLE CONDITIONS.”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) NO MATTER. WE SHALL HAVE OUR PARADISE! THIS PLANET WILL SERVE ITS PURPOSE. IT WON’T BE LONG BEFORE THE DALEKS ACHIEVE TOTAL VICTORY!

An alarm then goes off. The Dalek Agent goes over to a console to assess what’s going on.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) REPORT?

AGENT DALEK
EARTH SHIP MOON-RAKER IS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO US!

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) COORDINATES?

AGENT DALEK
LOCATION: DELTA ASTRAL EIGHT, SIX BETA N FIVE THREE FOUR. VERY CLOSE, EMPEROR.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) IS THE HUMAN UNIT WILSON STILL REGISTERING?

The Agent Dalek checks.

AGENT DALEK
(gradually) “SCANNING INSTRUMENTS INDICATE THAT THE WILSON UNIT IS STILL FUNCTIONAL.”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “EXCELLENT! HE SHALL BE PUT TO USE FOR THE DALEK CAUSE. COMMENCE THE PROCEDURE IMMEDIATELY!”

SCENE #173 – INT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – NIGHT
Meanwhile in the Micros warehouse as the Dwaxi headquarters on Yondamus IV , Jack continues to mourn for Nina’s death. Trooper Gabrog stands above him menacingly.

GABROG
(menacingly) “What do you think you’re doing, boy?”

JACK
(sobs) “She’s dead! The only friend I ever had. Nina! She’s dead!”

Gabrog pulls up Jack roughly to his feet and holds him by the scruff of his neck.

GABROG
(aggressively) “Pull yourself together! You’re a Dwaxi trooper! You’ll remember that! The Daleks are invading our base of operations! They must be crushed! Do you understand?”

JACK
(sobs) “Nina. She can’t be dead. My friend can’t be dead!”

Gabrog shakes Jack aggressively.

GABROG
(shouts) “DO YOU HEAR ME?! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?! YOU WILL DO AS YOU TOLD!”

JACK
(cries) “But Nina…”

GABROG
(shouts) “FORGET NINA! SHE WAS WEAK!” (Pause) “Now! You will go out of this warehouse and fight those tin pots to death! UNDERSTAND?!”

Moment of silence, as Jack considers.

JACK
(solemnly) “Yes. I understand.”

GABROG
(fiercely) SPEAK UP! I CAN’T HEAR YOU!

JACK
(angrily) Yes! YES, YES, YES!!! I understand perfectly!

GABROG
(satisfied) Good! (Pause) Well go on then! Move!

Jack obeys, as he takes his Dwaxi rifle with him and runs off. The battle goes on, as the Daleks and the Dwaxi fight each other. Meanwhile, Gabrog addresses a Dwaxi trooper.

GABROG
(bitterly) There’s a girl’s corpse over there! Throw that dump with the rest of the lot!

The Dwaxi troopers obeys, before Gabrog goes off to join Targah and Blockade who watch the Dalek-Dwaxi battle.

TARGAH
Well Blockade?

BLOCKADE
(yells) THE DALEKS ARE DEFINITELY HERE!

GABROG
“Well duh! We had gathered that!”

BLOCKADE
(yells) “YONDAMUS PRIME IS IN DIRECT ORBIT WITH YONDAMUS FOUR. THEY’RE USING THE PLANET AS SOME DEATH MACHINE TO TRAMPLE OVER US!”

TARGAH
(laughs) “Those Daleks think they’re smart, don’t they?! But we’ll show them! We show how better we are!”

BLOCKADE
(yells) “IT MAY NOT COME TO THAT COMMANDER, IF YOU MUST KNOW. IF THE YONDAMUS PLANET COLLIDES WITH US IN ITS GRAVITATIONAL PULL, WE COULD LOSE OUR FLEET ALTOGETHER AND WE’LL BE SUCKED BACK INTO THAT RIFT!”

Despite the Blockade saying these things, the Dalek-Dwaxi battle on Yondamus IV still goes on.

    Hi Tim

Another exciting chapter – I always like it when things start to move towards the end of the story, to see how things get wrapped up, or what happens to everybody.

The Daleks are determined to take out Yondamus IV, aren’t they, even if it kills them all. Amazing that the Emperor Dalek is prepared to sacrifice himself, I would have thought he would have found a way to extricate himself! All for the greater good of the Daleks, of course!

Goodness gracious, now Billy, Nyssa and Hilda have been taken again by the Dwaxi. They keep leaping out of the frying pan into the fire, don’t they?!

The great space battle between the Daleks and the Dwaxi does not go well for the Daleks, does it? No wonder they’re so determined to try and defeat the Dwaxi, they probably can’t work out why they keep losing.

Aha! The Doctor’s worked out how to get the Tardis back!

Aha, so the Doctor has worked out this fixed point in time, and that it involves the Daleks, the Dwaxi and the Moonraker. He’s obviously realised what is supposed to happen, I think.

My goodness, I thought the Dwaxi were going to kill the babies then – thank goodness for the Doctor arriving in the nick of time!

And now we know the Daleks were lying – they went through the rift into Dwaxi space first; so does that mean the Daleks created the rift while they were experimenting? Wouldn’t surprise me.

And the Daleks have arrived on Yondamus IV!

Aha, so the Daleks can find and still use Colin! That’s interesting.

My goodness, things are heating up now!

    Great stuff, Tim

    Hi Leigh.

Glad you enjoyed Chapter 14. Glad you found it exciting!

    CHAPTER 13
Well both Klingons and Jem’Hadar seemed mindlessly violent to begin with. I wanted to address that with the Dwaxi in their first ‘Doctor Who’ story. Later on, I did a second Dwaxi story I was able to enhance them a little better and with the addition of the Directors it helped to explain more about their background; where they came and how and why they were doing the things they did. But that’s another story for a later time.

I like the Jem’Hadar as ‘Star Trek’ villains. I agree they are great creations from the ‘Star Trek’ creations. I sometimes think the Klingons for ‘Star Trek’ are like the Daleks for ‘Doctor Who’ since that’s when you recognise them as ‘Star Trek’ villains when you think about the aliens in that series apart from the Vulcans. The ‘Star Trek’ villains that worked well for me were the Dominion and the Borg (and the later are more akin to Cybermen from ‘Doctor Who’ anyway).

Well I was disappointed that the writers didn’t delve deeper into what the Dominators and Bannerman’s motivations were and what their background was, as they came across as mindlessly violent all the time. It seemed like that in the TV stories. I’m wondering what they’re in the novelizations. I’m sure Ian Marter’s version of ‘The Dominators’ makes them more impressive compared to the TV story.

    Yes I am aren’t I? I just can’t help teasing you, can’t I? 😀

A spin-off series where the Moonraker through the rift into the Dwaxi universe! That’s a good idea, Leigh. I hadn’t thought of that before. Maybe that might happen. Depends how you look at it when you reach the end of the story. 😀

I like your word ‘therapeutic’ when Nyssa tells Billy about Traken. Interesting how Nyssa seeks healing when she tells Billy about it. It seems Nyssa is able to trust Billy by this point when telling him what happened to Traken, despite him having not been there or seen the tragedy happen.

Well the invasion of the Dwaxi from their universe into ours had to be so visual and so appalling that I couldn’t think how to visual it without thinking of Jem’Hadar ships swarming in through the wormhole in ‘Deep Space Nine’. I like your vision of how the Dwaxi invade, especially with the black and white contrasting against each other when they go through the rift in space. I’m sure it would be like that in outer space. 🙂

I’m pleased you’re looking forward to another Dwaxi story in ‘Doctor Who’. It might be a while before that comes on my blog, but I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait. It’ll be a different setting compared to this one and it’ll be more closer to home for one of our regulars. Here I go teasing you again. I’m making you think, aren’t I?

Yes it is funny that I’m thinking Jem’Hadar and you’re thinking Klingon with regards to the Dwaxi. They both come from the same universe, and I think it’s good that they’re richer in terms of character and concept when being developed in the ‘Doctor Who’ universe. I’m sure the Dwaxi are a mishmash of Klingon-Jem’Hadar in both respects, except they’re human-like in appearance and are drug addicts.

The rift idea of course came from the ‘Torchwood’ spin-off series in case you didn’t know. I originally had in mind to make the Dwaxi as villains for ‘Torchwood’. Perhaps I can still do that, especially with the recent revival of ‘Torchwood’ through Big Finish. Whether rift is temporal or dimensional or both, is yet to be discovered.

Yes the Daleks do try to be confident in their technology and power to overawe their enemies. They too confident really, and that’s where it leads to their downfall. They just don’t get it in their heads that their over-ambitious schemes will lead to their downfall, especially when the Doctor foils in their plans. They think their going to win with their destructive capabilities. But it’s never always.

Well now the Doctor seems determined to find an antigen or find a weakness to what the Dwaxi’s vulnerabilities in using their Yentias drug, it may not necessarily indirectly help the Daleks. I’m sure the Doctor’s working it out as he goes along and is being cautious when finding out the answers. He knows something that’s going to happen with the fate of the Moonraker as that seems to be on his mind at the moment, isn’t it?

I’m sure it won’t be a ‘doomed’ story for everyone. Hopefully the Doctor; Nyssa and Billy will survive this? But how will they? Not easily, that’s for certain.

That’s an interesting theory of yours, Leigh. The Directors may have created the Dwaxi as a means to play a weakness to the Daleks. It depends how important the Daleks are to the Directors in their grand scheme of things with the Dwaxi. Who knows? Things aren’t always clear-cut as they seem, do they? As you discovered in Chapter 14, the Daleks lied as they invaded the Dwaxi universe first. So it could have led to the Directors enhancing the Dwaxi’s Yentias drug as a weakness for the Daleks. As I said, who knows?

I’m sure the Emperor Dalek suspected the Supreme Dalek had schemes above their station. They don’t trust each other, even when they’re all so committed to the Dalek cause. Look what happened to Dalek Sec and what the Daleks did to him in ‘Daleks in Manhattan’/’Evolution of the Daleks’.

Well it is natural that Nyssa would think that in that Dalek intelligence scan scene. It’s not Billy’s fault he’s not as scientific or technically gifted as Nyssa and the Doctor are. I’m glad I made you laugh with that scene, especially with Billy’s reaction to Nyssa’s relief and concern.

    CHAPTER 14
I’m sure the Emperor Dalek’s gone mad by this point in the story when he’s prepared to sacrifice himself. He’s determined to see the Daleks’ plans to destroy the Dwaxi go ahead to the bitter end, even if it means killing every Dalek on Yondamus IV with the ecological disasters happening there. I’m sure there are plenty more Emperor Daleks for their subjects to follow, obey and ‘worship’. Maybe the Emperor Dalek has a way of escaping as he did with Ganatus in ‘The Mutant Phase’. Who knows? He managed to survive by ‘The Parting of the Ways’, didn’t he?

Yes Nyssa; Billy and Hilda didn’t have their freedom long when escaping the Daleks that they would run into the Dwaxi and get captured again. It seems unfair, but then in a story such as this you need the peril and danger to up the stakes and engage the audience. Terry Nation; Terrance Dicks and Malcolm Hulke did that well in their TV stories of ‘Doctor Who’. Definitely ‘out of the frying pan and into the fire’ as you say, Leigh.

Those space battle scenes between the Daleks and the Dwaxi were a challenge to write, I can tell you. I’m glad they impressed you. They were quite huge in terms of scope; size and scale.

No the Daleks don’t like losing to anyone. They’ll do anything to keep trying to fight against the Dwaxi and defeat them, even when they don’t realise the Dwaxi are powerful than they are. The Daleks are so superior in their ways that it blocks them from understanding why they can’t defeat the Dwaxi as they hope they might. It is a different situation to how the Daleks were fighting the Movellans in ‘Destiny of the Daleks’, isn’t it?

Just when you were wondering how the Doctor will get his TARDIS back from Yondamus IV in Chapter 13, you found out in Chapter 14. You found out sooner than usual, didn’t you Leigh? 😀

It’s good the Doctor had a homing device handy to locate his TARDIS on Yondamus IV amongst the Daleks isn’t it?

Interesting that Elaine was determined to go with the Doctor to Yondamus Prime to get his TARDIS back wasn’t it? What did you make of Elaine’s reaction to the TARDIS interior when she and the Doctor ended up on Yondamus IV? The Doctor got tetchy again, didn’t he? 😀

Yes the Doctor has worked it out what the fixed point in time is with the Daleks; Dwaxi and the Moonraker. He suspected it from the start, didn’t he? It was a tense scene between him and Elaine when he mentioned it to her on Yondamus IV, wasn’t it? The Doctor will reveal more about this fixed point in time to Nyssa and Billy in the next chapter. Will it be good or bad?

Yes that was a very tense and scary moment when the Dwaxi seemed to kill the babies. It was to show how cruel the Dwaxi are as much as the Daleks are. Why they would want the babies killed is a mystery? It can’t be more than just getting the babies to shut up with their crying. Why would the Dwaxi think that Hilda’s babies were disgusting.

Yes, thank goodness the Doctor arrived in the nick of time to stop the Dwaxi from what they were doing. I wasn’t really going to have the babies killed by the Dwaxi, as that would have been too horrible to write in a ‘Doctor Who’ story.

The Doctor got his chance to tell Billy how annoyed he was for being kicked in the shin by him earlier, didn’t he? Nyssa was shocked as well, wasn’t she? 😀

It was upsetting for Nyssa (especially) and Billy when they saw the state that Jack and Nina were in and how Dwaxi-fied they’d become, wasn’t it? Elaine was equally shocked too, wasn’t she?

It was interesting to see how the Doctor interacts with the Dwaxi in his first proper scene with them. He learns more about the Dwaxi, even though how they speak and the things they say, doesn’t he? I thought it was good the Doctor defied the Dwaxi for what they are, despite them glorifying in the hurt and pain they cause to others. It was also when Nyssa; Billy and the Doctor challenged the Doctor for having no faults, wasn’t it?

Interesting that the Dwaxi have this belief that they’re part of a destination paradox, isn’t it? How do you think that connects to the rift and the world they came from then? It all seems complex now with the Dwaxi by this point, isn’t it?

Yes the Daleks were lying after all as they entered Dwaxi space first. That is typical of them, due to their superiority complex as they would think they have right of way into anywhere that isn’t their territory and claiming they were attacked by their enemy first before they attacked them.

The Daleks could have created the rift to gain the gateway into Dwaxi space. It’s never revealed what; how and why they would want to invade Dwaxi space. I’ve not followed up on that. That’s a story for another occasion should I pit the Daleks and the Dwaxi against each other again.

The idea of the Daleks invading Dwaxi space first was inspired by the ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ two-parter called ‘Scorpion’ where the Borg invaded the world of Species 8472 first.

Yes the Daleks have arrived on Yondamus IV! It’s all-out between the Daleks and the Dwaxi on the planet and in outer space, isn’t it? Will the Doctor; Nyssa; Billy; Elaine and Hilda escape from Daleks and Dwaxi by the next chapter? It’s good they got Sandy the Globtol back to help them out, isn’t it?

Poor Jack. He seems upset that Nina’s dead, doesn’t he? His Dwaxi mates don’t seem to care about it when he’s grieving over Nina. Could his Dwaxi-conditioning be breaking then?

Yes, what can the Daleks be up to and what use do they have in mind for Colin? It can’t be good, can it? It doesn’t seem like the Moonraker crew will be able to keep Colin in the brig aboard the ship, will they? All will be revealed in the next chapter, I’m sure.

I’m glad things are heating up for you as the story draws to its conclusion. 🙂

I’m pleased you’re pacing the story out as you’re going along and that you’re absorbing each chapter. I’m pleased I found a truly ‘keen reader’ who likes and enjoys my ‘Doctor Who’ stories. I didn’t think there was going to be when I was posting them online. I’m looking forward to hearing your review of the story by the end of Chapter 16 and what your thoughts on the first trilogy with the Fifth Doctor; Nyssa and Billy are as a whole.

    Thanks Leigh.

    Tim. 🙂

    Hi Tim

I agree with you, I like the Jem’Hadar. And I like the way that the Founders created them, as part of the way the Dominion society and culture were really well fleshed out in the Star Trek universe.

And I absolutely love the Borg, but that’s probably not surprising, as the Cybermen are my total favourite Doctor Who ‘bad guys’.

No, there seemed wasted opportunities in not making more of the Dominators, and the Bannermen. As I recall, the novelisation of The Dominators did make more of them, and Ian Marter certainly wrote the novelisations that he did very well. I must pull out my copy and have another read of it.

It seems that you’re determined to make me sweat it out, and worry all the way through the story! Ha!

Oh, right, more teasing! We shall see where the Dwaxi are at by the end of the story, then.

I think Billy’s distance from Nyssa’s tragic experience of the end of Traken is actually a good thing, in that Nyssa can discuss it with him as a completely disinterested party – disinterested in so far as he wasn’t personally involved in Traken or the events that took place there, but close enough to Nyssa that she knows she can trust him, and talk with him about it in a therapeutic way.

I’m definitely keen to read more of your stories, Tim, you have a great imagination and a way of portraying these universes that we know and enjoy so much, it’s really great! If the Dwaxi should turn up again, that would be all to the good.

I could imagine the Dwaxi in the Torchwood universe.

No, the Daleks, like the Movellans, really rely too much on their computerised minds and projections, and keep trying the same things over and over often, don’t they? They rely on their ‘superiority’ without actually trying to define how that could work to an advantage over their enemies. All of which is good for the Doctor, of course, as he keeps outwitting them!

Well, I certainly hope the Doctor, Billy and Nyssa survive the story! Would be a bit of a shock if they didn’t!

Yes, a lot does depend on the Directors; who they are, what they’re doing, and what their ultimate aim is, as to how long a game they’re prepared to play. We don’t know any of the answers to that, and nor does the Doctor yet!

That’s true, I’m sure the Emperor Dalek, like all the Daleks of any rank, would inherently mistrust each other and vie for power. Which would be, I imagine, one of the reasons Davros would be against them having those ranks; he wouldn’t like that at all.

I think the Emperor Dalek, in order to stay the Emperor, would always be playing the game several moves ahead of all the other Daleks; he would hope to be, anyway, otherwise he wouldn’t last long.

That’s true, there were always those situations where the Doctor and his companions would escape from one tricky situation and immediately find themselves in another. A lot of running up and down corridors and avoiding danger!

The Daleks were very desperate in Destiny of the Daleks, weren’t they, even going so far as to try and find Davros again, to give them the advantage they were looking for. So blinded by their own ‘superiority’ again, that they couldn’t even see the answer in front of them. Mind you, neither could the Movellans. A very clever story, I always thought that one was.

It’s as well the Doctor has his homing device handy to get to the Tardis. Otherwise, he’d be forever wondering where he’d last seen it!

I liked it when the Doctor got tetchy at Elaine and the Tardis; made me chuckle.

The fixed point is really the key to this now, isn’t it, as the Doctor has realised. Whether it will be a good thing or a bad, remains to be seen. I have a sinking feeling it’s not going to be good for the Moonraker or her crew.

Yes, I can’t imagine having a story where babies were killed directly in the story like that; that would have been horrible. Goes to show how unfeeling the Dwaxi are, though. They kill anything and anyone, even when they’re no threat to them.

Nyssa was shocked at Billy kicking the Doctor in the shins!

It was upsetting for the others to see what had happened to Jack and Nina, definitely.

The Dwaxi are very interesting, and the way the Doctor reacts to them is telling. I think now that he has finally met them, he will be able to put some thoughts together in his mind and work out more of what is going on.

I wondered if the Daleks had opened up the rift by accident when they were working on their time travel capabilities, which they always seem to be wanting to conquer. I don’t imagine they would care if their experiments had side effects that impacted on the rest of the universe, or indeed another universe. But it could have been formed by some other thing, or even have been there for a long time, not noticed until now, couldn’t it?

I’m very much looking forward to the next chapter, and seeing what happens next. Not long to go now until I’ve got to the end!

Oh, I am liking my reading of your stories, Tim. I am finding them really intriguing and thought-provoking, and really like having a chapter to read when I get to them.

Flipping heck Tim, Boco died last chapter now Nina in this one lol, i think Ninas death will shake Jack out of being Dwaxi controlled as he’s feeling sorrow about Ninas death i think he’ll die helping save everyone.

I see Colins about to cause mischief again, I do hope he gets exterminated soon lol.

That was quite a shocking scene were the Dwaxi held guns at Hildas babies i really thought they were going to be shot, i love how the Doctor comes in & verbally attacks the Dwaxi, I’ve already said this but i can quite easily hear Peter Davison saying these lines as the Doctor you nailed his incarnation perfectly my friend this reminded me of Earthshock when the Doctor argues with the Cyberman that little things are what lifes all about.

I’m shocked how the Daleks are taking a beating by the Dwaxi it’s not often there overpowered by a superior force, even the Dalek Emperor is willing to sacrifice himself if it means wiping out the Dwaxi.

Superb pacing that’s building up to a great finale Tim, these three stories are worthy of a Big Finish audio adaption they are three very different engaging & enjoyable adventures.

Yes, they seem to be dying off one by one in this story aren’t they? Nina’s death certainly affected Jack didn’t it. I thought that would be a good moment to show that the Dwaxi conditioning on Jack isn’t as ‘perfect’ as other Dwaxi troopers may think it is. It shows how the real Jack starts to come through and begins to redeem himself.

I’m glad you enjoyed that scene with the Dwaxi, Hilda’s babies and the Doctor coming in just in time to save Nyssa; Billy; Hilda and her babies from the Dwaxi. It was shocking when the Dwaxi were about to kill Hilda’s babies. I wouldn’t have killed them really, as that would have been too horrific, even for a ‘Doctor Who’. I’m glad I shocked you with that scene.

I’m pleased you liked how the Doctor verbally attacks the Dwaxi. It’s interesting how the Doctor faces the Dwaxi for the first time in this story via this scene. I’m pleased you can hear Peter Davison’s voice when reading his lines as the Doctor in this story. Well, I did watch ‘Earthshock’ whilst writing this story to get the right atmosphere for the Daleks and the Dwaxi. I’m sure that scene where the Doctor talks to the Cybermen about ‘little things are what’s life’s all about’ inspired me to write his dialogue in the scene where he verbally attacks the Dwaxi.

Yes the carnage ensued between the Dwaxi and the Dalek is pretty intense. I wanted to show the Dwaxi were an unstoppable force, even for the Daleks when they get beaten up by them. But I also wanted to show the Emperor Dalek is willing to do anything to see that the Dwaxi never win in their battle with the Daleks, even it means destroying himself and the Daleks to their own ‘doom’. I’m glad I impressed you with both those moments of tension occurring between the Daleks and the Dwaxi.

I’m pleased you like the pacing I put in my stories, Simon. Your confidence in my three stories being Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’ is very reassuring. Tim. 🙂
