If you were to tell me after seeing ‘Toy Story 4’ in 2019 that I would be seeing the Disney/Pixar films ‘Onward’ and ‘Soul’ in 2020, I probably would’ve just shrugged and said, “Maybe, maybe not. I’m not that bothered to see them to be honest.” My, my, how things have changed since 2020 began! 🙂

For this instalment of ‘The Nyssa Challenge’ on New Year’s Eve today, I’m sharing my reviews on the ‘Doctor Who’ comic stories featured in the graphic novel called ‘The Clockwise War’. The story of focus is ‘Blood Invocation’ which features the Fifth Doctor, Nyssa and Tegan.

I had another nostalgic birthday present this Christmas. As well as the ‘Rainbow’ DVD I had, I also had a DVD of ‘The Sooty Show’ featuring Sooty, Sweep and Soo with Matthew Corbett as the presenter. I used to love watching ‘The Sooty Show’ on VHS and ‘Sooty & Co’ on TV when I was a kid.

Here we are with the only 2020 full-cast ‘Doctor Who’ audio drama CD release starring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Janet Fielding as Tegan and George Watkins as Marc for this year’s ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season – ‘Thin Time’ and ‘Madquake’. Sadly, ‘The Lost Resort’ and ‘Perils and Nightmares’ didn’t get made this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic – please keep safe.

My Mum received the DVD of the BBC’s 1991 adaptation of ‘Five Children and It’ for Christmas this year! My parents and I spent three days watching the six-part serial on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the 27th. It was an intriguing experience watching ‘Five Children and It’ and was quite enjoyable.

2020 is coming to an end and it’s time for another ‘Nyssa Challenge’ review. Today, we’re on the latest ‘Doctor Who’ Short Trip audio by Big Finish called ‘Downward Spiral’, read by Sarah Sutton. This story is by Alan Flanagan and it features the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa. I’m very pleased I heard this Short Trip audio.

I’ve had a nostalgic Christmas present this year! Let’s talk about ‘Rainbow’, the children’s TV series. I used to watch ‘Rainbow’ on VHS back in the day when I was a kid in the 1990s. The original show ran from 1972 to 1992, although it’s more likely that I watched episodes of ‘Rainbow’ from the 1980s. 😀

I’ve updated and extended my reviews on the Puffin e-shorts collection of ‘Doctor Who’ stories, which started as ’11 Doctors, 11 Stories’; then as ’12 Doctors, 12 Stories’; and is now ‘Thirteen Doctors, 13 Stories’. This is part of the 2020-2021 ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season where I’ve updated my reviews on the first twelve stories in the collection and done a new review on the thirteenth story called ‘Time Lapse’ by Naomi Alderman.

Christmas 2020 was certainly a Peter Davison-filled Christmas for me! 😀 As well as watching the 2020 Christmas Special of ‘Call the Midwife’ on Christmas Day, I enjoyed listening to the ASDA-exclusive vinyl of ‘1963: Fanfare For The Common Men’, one of my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ audios. 🙂
