Farewell Thomas Brewster
I enjoyed this little one episode story. This is Thomas Brewster’s last episode in his adventures with the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa in the TARDIS. I really like John Pickard’s performance in this one episode.
‘A Perfect World’ is by Jonathan Morris. It is a love story for Thomas where he ends up staying with a girl in London, 2008. It’s a sweet way for Thomas to leave and stay with Rebecca Callard as Connie.
I liked Sarah Sutton as Nyssa in this story too. She doesn’t have much to do, as this is mostly Thomas’ story. But I like the moments she has with the Doctor when they discover the world is too perfect.
This is a really nice episode to end the ‘Time Reef & A Perfect World’ CD and this set of stories with Thomas Brewster. I liked it that Thomas falls in love and I hope he’s happy with Connie. I wonder what has become of Thomas lately.
The CD extras of ‘Time Reef & A Perfect World’ are as follows. On Disc 1, there’s a trailer for ‘Brotherhood of the Daleks’ with Colin Baker and India Fisher. At the end of Discs 1 and 2, there are behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and crew including Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton; John Pickard; writers Marc Platt and Jonathan Morris; etc.
‘Time Reef & A Perfect World’ is a nice CD featuring the last two stories of Thomas Brewster with the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa. ‘Time Reef’ is weirder than ‘A Perfect World’ but they’re both interesting. It’s a shame Brewster ended travelling with the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa so soon, as they could have had more adventures.
‘A Perfect World’ rating – 9/10

Yeah I’m glad Thomas was given a little happiness as his backstory is quite tragic, excellent review Tim you summed up this one parter magnificently.

I don’t know what’s become of Thomas Brewster lately with the Sixth Doctor and Evelyn. I hope to find out soon when I get to listening to those audios.
Thanks Simon. Glad you enjoyed my review on ‘A Perfect World’ and that you found I summed it up ‘magnificently’. Tim. 🙂
