Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
I saw this ‘Grantchester’ episode way before I saw any of Series 4 and 5 episodes as well as the Series 1, 2 and 3 episodes. This episode perked my interest because a certain ‘Doctor Who’ star was in it. Lately, I’ve gained more knowledge of the ‘Grantchester’ series and know the characters more.
In this ‘Grantchester’ episode, we have…a village cricket match! Sorry, I must’ve put on ‘Black Orchid’ in the DVD/Blu-ray player. 😀 Seeing the cricket match featured in this episode did put me in mind of ‘Black Orchid’. Next thing you’ll be saying is Peter Davison from ‘Doctor Who’ appears in this…
Wait, WHAT?!! I was absolutely thrilled to see Peter Davison make an appearance in this ‘Grantchester’ episode. I actually talked to him about his character in the ‘Grantchester’ episode he did at the ‘GEEKS Salisbury Comic Con’ in July 2017. It was incredible to be talking to him about that.
I shared how cruel his character Geoff Towler was to the Pakistani chaps featured in this. I recall Peter sharing to me that he thought the character he played was a bit of a ‘bastard’ – his words, not mine. 😀 Racism and prejudice are common themes in this ‘Grantchester’ episode that Peter stars in.
Anyway, James Norton as Sidney and Robson Green as Geordie take part in the village cricket match in Grantchester before the entire team are sick. It turns out that someone poisoned their beer. Everybody recovers, except Dinesh Sundran as Zafar Ali from Pakinstan who is found dead next day.
It’s intriguing how the chain of events led to this murder as Zafar was in a relationship with Geoff Towler’s daughter, Ciara Charteris as Annie. Zafar’s elder brother, Parth Thakerar as Munir, accuses Annie of murdering his brother. But as the tale unravels, there is more to the mystery than it seems.
I like how the murder mystery gets unravelled and how Sidney and Geordie work together to solve it. I found it more interesting than what was going on in Sidney and Geordie’s daily lives in the series. Sidney continues to have a relationship with Morven Christie as Amanda, which he shouldn’t have. 😐
Geordie also goes behind his wife’s back by having an affair with Seline Hizli as Margaret. This is something Sidney discovers and it puts into doubt where his relationship with Amanda should be. I wonder if Sidney and Geordie will do the right thing and stop what they’re doing by Series 3’s end. 😐
I’m glad I’ve seen this ‘Grantchester’ episode again as I’ve been looking forward to reviewing it for some time. Peter Davison’s guest star appearance in this episode is magic and I like how the murder mystery gets solved by Sidney and Geordie. Who knows where their storylines will go during Series 3.
After seeing Peter Davison in ‘Grantchester’, I wonder if he’s done anything else recently…
Oh my goodness! (clears throat) Well, I’m looking forward to 2020’s ‘Call the Midwife’ Christmas Special being shown this year on Christmas Day via BBC TV.
Here’s hoping my review on Series 3, Episode 3 of ‘Grantchester’ will be up next week.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim. 🙂
